    It seems these days we are all living memes, brought to us courtesy of the internet and even if memes seem to match up with our individual experiences at times, are they truly accurate in describing the most salient aspects of our experience? In short, are memes doing a disservice to us?

    When you talk about gurus I'm reminded of what a friend of mine said regarding his side business of helping people buy houses in Japan. When I asked him about how they're going to live in the house, he nonchalantly said well that's up to them. This was right after talking about the money he was making off doing it.
    People often claim to help others, and to some extent they do. But they're always helping themselves first. The image of the happy go lucky dog who suddenly drops over his snack and growls at you like he'll rip your throat out if you touch it and then reverts to his tongue waggling self once his treat is gobbled up comes to mind

Everyone is too quick to fit things and people into a box and act as if they're unquestionable experts just because they've learned a lot in a short amount of time online. We've all gained a lot of knowledge in the past 20+ years with the internet, but there is no substitute for wisdom or experience. Both of those things take time and patience. I noticed something like this when I was very young - that most people have a need to place you into a known archetype in order for them to 'understand', or indeed, like you. I was fairly eccentric at school, and outcast until one day someone decided I was 'like X character from a TV show', and then I was accepted. It's mind boggling to me. I've never understood why this is the case. I'm almost 40 now but it still doesn't make any sense to me, and yet I'm rather sure by experience that it is how most people are.

      "You're like X" is such a universal thing. Once you see it you'll notice it everywhere. In fact, heard that line used on me today. It's hopefully giving you social proof and allowing people to extrapolate the traits from someone else onto you, so they "figure you out".
      I do it myself as well. Mostly to know which people to avoid, by comparing their behaviour to undesirables i've met in the past.

    I wouldn't necessarily use the word 'meme', I prefer the term 'archetype'. I guess meme wojaks are an expression of those archetypes. There's this nice short book called 'King, Warrior, Magician, Lover' that talks about masuline archetypes and their positive and negative expressions.
    So for instance, in terms of the fundamental image of the doomer, he's jaded, blackpilled. I see that as similar to the symbol of the aloof magician who, high up in his ivory tower, has discovered too much to the point where it's so difficult to see any good in it and loses his will to continue.

    There are things in this life I will never understand. Like how some people get what they get. Despite you being more qualified in every way.. How some people can experience things so effortlessly while such things simply arent a part of my reality.
    At times I feel fortunate when I see how some people live, but at other times I feel as if the world is having fun except me.
    I just dont get it

    • @Lyu-Phy

      This world was never fair or the inhabitants equal to begin with. People just dealt with life itself and couldnt afford to "waste time" pondering about it like we do, they had to survive but also had more freedom from the burden of todays society, women were more a part of peoples life. They also didn't have to deal with knowing and seeing too much information, some things were harder, some easier like mens much talked burden.
      Same applies for us, we have it so easy yet so hard. But no innate urgency to survive, so men philosophise endlessly about their plight, they are more or less complacent and depressed, with no hope of things changing anytime soon. I dont know if I would say the world has gotten worse, but it's just too chaotic and even peasants back then had more freedom, more property and a wife on top of that.

      @@Lyu-Phy The modern world has more comfort but less quality. Personally I feel like that is a downgrade. 😎

    • @Lyu-Phy
      @Lyu-Phy 2 месяца назад +5

      @@ModelJames13 I wouldn't put it that way personally, though we have more comfort yes. But it was more clear what to do and day to day life had more order, it was a hard but honest life and had something to offer, community, belonging, meaning, a wife. It was hard but at the same time more simple. The modern man lives in a society without any of that and no rewards in sight, even tho you would think it would be the contrary. What makes it even worse is the fact that everything around us is more fake than ever and people dont need to depend on each other anymore, so people become more replaceable.

    • @brianbarrett8739
      @brianbarrett8739 2 месяца назад

      @@Lyu-Phypeople depend on others much more in highly technological societies. We just don't see it and that is why people are replaceable. Anyone that can do the job is fine by you as long as the job is done. That's for all the background/taken for granted stuff like infrastructure.
      The only way to be truly independent is to live completely off the land. In that situation the people you really need, fatm hands, doctors, blacksmiths. . .
      those people need to be as good as they can at the job. There are no substitutes. You also have to work directly with them to balance out what either of you can or cannot do.
      Today we are much more dependent on others.

    • @Lyu-Phy
      @Lyu-Phy 2 месяца назад

      @@brianbarrett8739 But the dependance of todays society is dishonest and build upon more sacrifices. Let's take women for example they are still very dependant on men, all the money they can easily make in todays world is all still coming from men and the government. Even If they lose a dozen spenders it doesn't affect them that much, cuz that is another caviat of our times: our population has exploded since the last century and a half, thus making billions upon billions more replacable in the grand scheme of things.
      Couple that also with the fact that a lot of work is outsorced to people from third world countries who work much more and harder for way less pay and it's a wrap. And what do men get in comparison? nothing, something that would have been unthinkable back then. It wasn't all rosy either, but atleast you gained something in return from the other gender, people and work. It's just not looking that bright for our economy and having natural bonds and relationships all in all and feminism didn't help either in that regard shifting all the pressure even more on men.

    Me: rushing over to Amazon to order a bathrobe. Seriously, though, Stardusk hinted at this around the 8 minute mark. I think that the acceptance of memes is sustained mostly by assumptions of association and false attribution, e.g., if I'm of a certain generation and I support restrictions on abortion then I must also be a bible-toting gun nut who wants to put women back in the kitchen. If I express pro-choice views, then many will assume that I'm also for gun control, lenient enforcement policies, or even have an antifa flag in my room. We are no longer viewed as individuals, but rather as Stardusk describes us. Well, I guess I'll get back in my bucket.
