    My game of the year was Return of the Obra Dinn. It only took 10 hours but it was all I could think of even while not playing and I needed to get back to it immediately whenever I needed to put it down. Such a unique game from the story, visuals and game play and I am sad I can only play it once and there is nothing else like it to fill that void.

      It doesn't matter (.❛ ᴗ ❛.) In my definition, game of the year is the best game one played this year, whether it was released the same year or not. Last year my GOTY was BotW, and it was released in 2017 (¬‿¬ )

    I need to figure out how to play this many games in a year, my backlog is ever-growing.
    Oh, also I strongly recommend the Mario & Luigi RPGs. They're all excellent.

    I very much respect your opinion on Elden Ring. Though I haven't yet finished it, I can already relate to the sort of feeling you describe, almost to a T. It's been difficult for me to get into even as someone who enjoys the gameplay of Demon's Souls/Dark Souls (and there's something to be said about questionable changes in gameplay from Bloodborne onward, anyway).
    But yeah, I respect your willingness to talk openly about your less-than-positive opinions on it. And I enjoyed this look back on the other games you played this year, too. Wishing you all the best in the new year!

    my game of the year was Garage: A Bad Dream Adventure.
    It’s a remaster of an old game that had niche mystique for being almost vaporware, much like a dream of itself.
    I am so glad I was able to play it, the atmosphere and story was incredibly engrossing even at its most grotesque.

    I love hearing your game journal for the year. It's nice to see and makes me want to do the same sort of thing because I often forget what I played and enjoyed.
    I don't know that I played all that many new games this year--I spent a lot of time with 'comfort' games like Hades, Nioh, Pyre, or Disco Elysium, playing through with friends, that sort of thing.
    Elden Ring was fun, though what most impressed me about it was it was the first open world game I really felt "I want to go explore over there!" and then I set out on a journey, went there, and did that. While the questlines and many other features left me wanting, I did love the sense of exploration I got from the game and the good times I had playing it with friends.
    I really want to try Tunic and several of the other games you mentioned! Maybe in 2023? I also want to get a Nintendo Switch--there are more and more games exclusive to it that I really want to play.

    Hmm think I'm gonna play the mouse encyclopedia game for the same reason now, book authors sure do love to cram as many flora/fauna species into their descriptions of nature as possible, like every reader's supposed to be a professional biologist)) Seems like an interactive visual dictionary, love it.
    My absolute GOTY 2022 is Rogue Legacy 2, been a while since I've experienced joy from gaming this pure) Also proved kinda unfortunate cause a couple of months after beating it I started Hollow Knight, and those two definitely should be played in the reverse order - just seems like RL2 does everything HK did and more, but 5x better) (though HK's music & atmosphere are pretty dang spectacular)
    But what a great, great game, just writing about it makes me wanna go replay it))

    Have you ever played Nioh? I'm replaying the second game right now, and I love how fast paced and complex the combat can get sometimes.
    It also has tons of lore about Japan, Sengoku-era historical characters, and Japanese folklore and mythology. You could do something similar to your Sekiro videos about lore and translations.

    Oh, one new game I did play and absolutely loved : NORCO.
    Definitely check that one out--though there will be a lot of very localized dialogue. I am always curious how people who are not native to the region might like the game because it essentially takes place in a not-too-distant dystopic future of the place I grew up.

    • @shetanislair
      @shetanislair  Год назад +1

      I completely skipped Norco and only learned about it when it got nominated on TGA but it's been on my "to play" list ever since (* ̄▽ ̄)b

    I only played two games that came out this year as I was busy catching up on old stuff. My favorites were 13 Sentinels, the Klonoa games (very fun, charming 2.5d platformers), and OneShot which I just recently played but didn't expect it to be one of my favorite indie titles. Great video btw I enjoy your opinions on these games even if they don't match up with mine.

      Oh and I finally got around to playing the Silent Hill and Team Ico games this year. Don't know how I held them off for so long but Shadow of the Colossus is a must play and Silent Hill 2 is incredible in it's themes and characterization.

    • @shetanislair
      @shetanislair  Год назад +1

      He says, 「血が、たぎって来たわ!」 - "my blood [started] boiling!" so the localization is on point. He says it at the start of the second phase meaning that he has just warmed up and ready to fight for real ( ̄ω ̄)
