As a worker at a Canadian international airport, I've had the unique pleasure of seeing old Nolinor, Air Inuit, and Chrono 737-200s take off right before or after a MAX 8. It's always so cool to see the vast difference between the two, and I love that their both still flying at the same time. It really is a testament to the success of the 737.
What a classic beauty. I love seeing the original engine type. The gravel package and airstair makes it even cooler. 48, eh? Why that's just a whipper snapper. Plenty more years left in 'er.
Incredible video! It’s always been a dream of mine to see a 737-200 in person, so I guess I’ll have to head up to Canada! Great catch and stunning video, Alex!
Western and Northern Canada is where you would find them. Eastern Provincial Airlines used to fly them. They went out of business and I'm not sure what happened to their aircraft. A long time ago now.
Flew on one of these back in the 70’s it was loud and uncomfortable, but i loved watching the reverse buckets at work! I would imagine it’s used mostly for cargo now.
While it's rapidly changing with every flight I'm taking, the majority of my flying has been in 737-200's. First with Pacific Western, then with Canadi>n, then a smattering of NWT Air and WestJet when they flew them. I've even flown on a few of the 737 Combi's where you boarded the plane from the back end. I always preferred a seat around row 16-17 because you'd get that sweet view of the reverse thrust buckets opening up...Lots of special memories on those! I gotta wonder, how many times can one zero-time an airframe to keep it flying? Must cost Nolinor a fortune to be able to keep flying these old birds, but without many alternatives for jets to unpaved runways in Canada's north, I guess they kinda have to.
Most -200s are still being used because they can be equipped with a gravel kit for landing/takeoff from unpaved runways up north (notice the deflector on the NLG and vortex diffuser in front of the engine inlet), if it weren’t for the P&W jt8 engines being too loud and thirsty, there’d be still lots more. The airframe was built for lots and lots of flying.
I flew the 737-200 for two airlines, and wrenched on them for two other airlines. I love them! I've flown eight different Boeings, but I call this my "Spirit Animal".
@@F1_Continued we overnighted in Vancouver. I did visit Calgary/Banff on vacation last week! Love the mountains! Didn’t spend much time in the city though
@@citruskelly24 That's awesome. If you come back don't worry too much about being in the city, its like Toronto just without the litter and trash everywhere, and just a little bit cheaper. Mountains are the best part of Calgary.
Wow... what are the odds of stumbling across this video. This plane may be old, but she is well loved and sees some adventures! I'm almost certain I flew on this exact plane in 2015. I boarded in Waterloo (YKF) and we stopped at Iqaluit (CYFB) to refuel. After refueling, we continued north to our final destination, deep into the arctic circle. We landed on a 2 km gravel airstrip with lakes at each end. I had no idea it was possible to land something like this on gravel! I've never seen anything like it before or since. The Nolinor team must be extremely talented and a little mad! After de-boarding, the plane returned back south. Watching this aircraft take off from the gravel runway unreal. It appeared to just shoot out of an immense a cloud of dust like a rocket. I stayed on-site for a week and then returned back on the same plane. What an absolutely surreal experience! While typing this, I found a photo I took of the aircraft. I can't quite read the registration number, but I am certain this was the exact aircraft. Thanks for a trip down memory lane!
Their planes are in beautiful shape. Not sure if they still have it but C-GNLW had a Montreal Alouettes CFL football team logo & colours. A real beauty !
Great catch Alex! I used to travel on the 737-200 with PWA, CP Air, Canadian and the original WestJet aircraft. Nothing like getting on one of those screamers at 7am to get from YYC to YEG, the cabin smelling of jet fuel…
Hey Alex, love the content. I currently work at KF aerospace and we run and hold the type certificate for the Convair cv550 and 580. Love to see a video on that
Strange to think it’s nearly twenty years since I last experienced a flight in a 732. It was with Ryanair and I distinctly remember oil streaks forming in flight on the engine nacelles. I ‘hoped’ this was a normal feature of the JT8D engine but whatever, it got me to my destination and back!
Aloha Alex! Wow, the sound of the engines brought me back to the days of Aloha Airlines here in Hawaii! The old LIH airport had no jet ways and thus no push backs,, so the exhaust of the engines would shake the windows. Those were the days! I still prefer flying Aloha Airlines versus Hawaiian Airlines for inter-island some 25 years ago. Maybe it was a newer model 737? And Hawaiian Airlines was flying something other than the B717? Mahalo, Thomas
These ancient birds will be around forever as long as remote northern communities and remote northern mines need passengers, supplies and workers flown into small, gravel airstrips.
I always thought the -200 was the best looking 737. My very first flight was a 732. Would have been mid 70s from Grande Prairie to Edmonton with CP Air. Glad to see them still making flights.
this plane was damaged in a bombing in 1981, the bomb went off during offloading injuring 3 people whilst flying for Air Malta, leased from Transavia under the reg PH-TVC
Is the rudder taller than the NG's? It may be just an optical thing due to the livery design. I was wondering because I know the A318 and the B747SP had taller rudders due to the shortened body length. Just curious...
That is a great sight. I wish, we had that in Germany... By the way, is it just me or do you have a lot of women on your frequencies? In almost evry video I hear a female voice. This is quite exceptional compared to other airports.
Is this one an ex royal air Maroc 🇲🇦 ? Unless I’m mistaken she was seen flying from Montreal to Casablanca during the Covid pandemic with a stopover somewhere in Ireland or Iceland
Its great to see the "classic" B737. The 200 series. But what a clunky design! Boeing could not come up with a newbuild to replace it? Comparing this to the CSeries/A220, I will take the Quebec/EADS/Alamaba cobuild any day.
Plane appears to be kept in very good condition for 48 years of age. Their livery is quite nice.
Yes! Nolinor is local to me and they take GREAT pride in being the world's largest B732 operator!

Still used for passengers up north since high bypass engined jets cant land on gravel runways

The most beautiful version of the 737 ever. I flew once on a -200 from YOW to YYZ in 1991. An EPA 737 in Canadian color. The good old days.
That gravel kit!
At 4:55, why using idle reversers for a few seconds? Such a lovely aircraft!
Just for a good show 😉
Pretty cool shot with the MAX taxiing past, ~45 year difference between the two!
That Flair Max 8 provided a nice comparison between the oldest and newest 737 models. Both are beautiful birds.

When I was in high school (1970s) Pacific Western flew 737-200s in to Quesnel (CYQZ). Not bad off a 5500 foot runway.

Just yesterday I actually saw one of Air Inuit's 737-200s fly directly over me. It was so loud!
Saw this plane parked at signature YVR on flight radar. If only I'd have noticed it was a 200 I would headed straight down there, damn!

I live near Pearson. When this thing flies over the windows rattle.
Flew on Quebec air -200 on its delivery flight from Seattle to Edmonton in 1079 or1980. Is this the same
Funny how B732s were very common (more so in YEG than YYC) not that many years ago and now they’re a scant few years away from becoming a dodo.
It's the 737 of Theseus!

A380 should be like the Boeings. Only go out of service after 50 years.
They used fly of YKF without hushkitts. That didn't go over well.
wow
That is the oldest surviving 737 in existence
Whats that around the front wheel looks out of place
Odd that an event that takes place every 4 years would need to air freight anything.

I cannot stand it when videos talk about one type of plane yet show another. You showed multiple A330 clips without once mentioning that plane...
My unpopular opinion: I think the 737 is actually quite ugly
