In a place I grew up custom car owners and enthusiasts, mostly young people, would drive the main boulevard slowly from end to end, showing off their cars. Crowds lining the street would voice their approval or disapproval. It was a "see and be seen" event every Friday and Saturday night. They called it "cruising!" There was a few fist fights every once in a while, but week after week it was usually peaceful, but loud. But, NO ONE GOT SHOT or did any shooting! But then this was a predominantly white place and was a couple of generations ago.

We used to cruise Riverside Ave every weekend night in the 80's. Problems were few and far between.
