Hey guys! Welcome back to another episode of your favourite Canadian automotive show! Coming to you live from Los Angeles, California... haha. We went for a drive in Chris' 2JZ-swapped Lexus SC300, one of those swaps that just seems to make sense, considering the SC300 came with a 2JZ-GE under the hood from the factory. Running on E85 it puts down somewhere between 400-500HP to the wheels, a very respectable and reliable number for the street. Enjoy!

Most impressive part of this build are the Cali plates on a 2JZ single-turbo running E85 ... guess he has a good hook-up.

The reason for the similarities to a MKIV Supra is because this is the chassis (SC/Soarer) the MKIV Supra is based off, just like the MK3 Supra was based off of the previous generation Soarer.
The Japanese version came 1jzgte and later added the vvti to version

Here's my 93 Soarer I got imported last year to the states, she was a bit rough on the outside, but man was the inside clean and the 1j and 4 speed auto feel so fresh still. ended up going with a royal sapphire pearl on it rather than respray the older blue.

@@magnetic0314 I had a 6spd GTE swapped SC making mid 5's at wheels. I have a Hardtop 6spd Supra it makes mid 5's on pump gas and more on E85. Even at mid 5's it's a much different feeling than the SC. Better is relative if you drive both you will see the difference at same power level.

@@xaviercrawford650 nope, the toyota soarer came with the 1jzgte non vvti, lexus sc300 came with the 2jzge, most soarers out here in jamaica still have their original motor with single turbo conversions
And then the sc400 had the V8 ..but as they telling you no turbo 2jz option.Funny thing is alot of people sleep on a turbo 1jz and its a potent engine .

Brother let me ask you to settle some things. Do you or do you not have slightly stretch tires... Especially in the front? Are you running 18x9 on a 215/40 tire? Not necessarily asking for specs....I have a sc400 and I'm running 18x10 +15 with 215/40 squared. He argued with me that stretch is for looks but I told him no that it was for function... For the skids and the tuck. Can you confirm this?
@@13THPR0PH37 18x9.5 245/40. Very little stretch. Good for the tuck but I I wouldn't imagine having a lot of stretch is good for slides. Maybe in the front but not the rear.

Love these things. Over here in the U.K. they’re the Toyota Soarer with a 1JZ Turbo and yes like you say, the father of the Supra. And more practical.
It doesn’t take much to make them look good and the 1J vvti version already has the power.
I will be on the hunt for a manual one hopefully in the not too distant future! 😃

There’s a handful of us back in Vancouver driving sc/soarers with 1jz, 2jz and v8 from stock to heavy modified. These cars are overlooked and under appreciated.

Plenty of clean SCs over there. Better still, a Soarer! They are superior to the SCs as they came with way better options. The SCs received a rubbish steering rack ratio - The Soarers have a tighter ratio. The highest spec (the UZZ32) was tighter still.
A lot would disagree with you on it not looking good. These were far ahead of their time, looked newer than anything out there and still don't look old. They have a timeless design. They are beautiful. They were never created with a tough look in mind because as you say, they' were a luxury GT car aimed at rich older men.
They came with 3 of the best engines available. The 2J, 1J Twin Turbo (Soarer) and the 1UZ.
By the way: First gen SC400s started at 250hp and ended with the series 3 VVTI, making 300hp. The first gen 1UZ (thicker rods) can make 800hp, unopened, much like the 1J and 2J.
Also, the wood trim is real wood and the seats are leather. Come on, it's a Lexus. Of course they're real.
The JZZ30 soarer steering rack is rubbish! If you are worried about the steering ratio swap in the JZA80 supra rack, still light but far more direct
@@1fat66 No, I agree! I don't like the Soarer ratio either. But the SC's ratio is even worse! XD
Though as stated, the UZZ32's ratio is supposed to be really good. Better than a Supra's
I think you will find that the active suspension setup on the UZZ32 improved the cornering by reducing body roll but as for the steering ratio nothing changed, it was designed as a luxury coupe after all

Goodluck 40 Nothing crazy that needed fabrication. Just needed Front sump, sc300 motor mounts and everything went in easy. The toughest part is I did a cd009 manual trans swap using Collins adapters, 450lph and fuel lines.

B6ZE; I might be the only person that buys one since a lot of people are familiar with the Mazda Miata, but not as many know the 1990-93 NA Miata's engine code, B6ZE. It's just such a cool sounding engine code! It would be sweet to have a tag on my lanyard that actually matched the engine in my car, Miata Is Always The Answer!

SC400/300 is the best looking car of the 90's. I own this car since it came out then switch to SC400 in 1999. I never have problem on it just maintenance expenses.

disagree on the looks aspect - long hood coupe is hot stuff. sc300 late70's xj and late 60's early 70's e-type those, and new type-F are 4 cars come to mind as the elegant yet fast looking coupes. some might not even see why i place tose cars together. but the the body shape has simular overall lines. and i think there are not enough cars like that.
but thats just my opinion.

How ironic. I just reviewed the same thing! A 2jzgte swapped sc300. One of the most fun cars you can ever drive for sure. Truly an awesome experience. It makes all the right sounds, pulls hard, and is crazy fast depending on the build!

I bought my sc400 a year ago and it was on stock springs it was so dam ugly but as soon as I got the coils it was a wrap for the uglyness I even kept the stocks and they got compliments like ?? Who compliments stocks I felt so old that day😂I don’t understand what people see tho I mean I love it and it’s so dam reliable but it literally turns heads everywhere I go it’s cool but annoying I’ve owned it for 3 and a half months and been asked three times if I wanted to sell it like huh?are there really a following for this car I just bought it to daily so I can park my last daily a 97 type sh prelude but now I’m starting to get into the sc more then the prelude I wish I could post pics on here but I’m wondering should I leave the sc to sit and sell it later or the prelude??my prelude is still in really good condition I wish I could show pics but my sc is in really good condition despite the driver seat is completely thrashed to fuckn shreds, what’s some of y’all’s opinions? Was this a non vvti ge to start? They are almost as strong as a gte so why swap?
Because people are dumb. The non vvti bottom end is identical to the GTE besides the oil squirters and slightly different pistons. The GE head flows better too. Really no point in swapping a GE non vvti, just get a GTE oil pump and a turbo kit and with the 5k u saved on a GTE swap you can build the bottom end.
@@DR-kc2pp I swapped a new gte block years ago in my is300 but I built the stock head and its been great for the most part
Unless it has the actual factory turbo version of the motor it isn't any kind of swap, they came with a regular 2jz from the factory, assuming it's really an SC300 and not an SC400 in which case this would be a swap.
It was a non turbo 2jz.... its similar, but it's definitely a different engine.
I miss my SC300, crashed it in a ditch swerving to miss the deer going 80 in a 40, loved that car even N/A it was pretty quick (not really) these cars are boats but great platforms to build off, honestly drop the weight and slap a turbo on it and itll go forever

@@StretchAus ya it comes with a 2jz ge vvti the only difference between the 2 engines is the turbos and the T that it it slap the turbos from a gte on to a ge and it the same thing so your right it doesn't come with a gte but it's still the same engine
@@nicholasjohnson3856 actually the ge vvti comes with thinner rods and very little aftermarket support... I'd know as I'm working on one currently... Also has completely head design with intake and exhaust ports to allow for better low end torque

They’re made with 2JZ-GTEs in them. But I could see where you built a different one and put stuff on it and then put it in this car. Then it would be swapped.
