- Hi all, Wolf Lord Rho here again,
Today we cover the events of fan favourite Uriel Ventris meeting his Primarch, Roboute Guilliman. How did he react? Let's find out.

Listening to Guilliman's demeanor when meeting Ventris, I like to imagine that Guilliman consciously tries to talk to Ventris the way he wished the Emperor spoke to the Primarchs - as father to son(s).
Especially after his realization that he was a tool for the Emperor, and the revelation that, that fact is irrelevant.
I would say that this is an astute and accurate statement.
Gilliman was always more....."Human" than his brothers. Hell, most of the Primarchs were no more than biological superwaepons designed and made by a Tyrant to do the Tyrants budding.
This Primarch......He actually cares about how the outcomes realy effect his Astardes, the population.
Yeah but nooope! Emprah sees weapons not sons
He gets to be a cool tool though, a replacement emperor should shit get weird. And weird it got.
@@iamalpharius9483 Why does everybody forget about Vulcan?!?
Can i just say
Having Ventris say "hey uh... I kind of didn't obey the codex one time.."
And Guilliman being like "its cool. Rules are meant to be broken sometimes."
That just floored me.
Robby: "I know, that's why I'm so proud of you."
Thats why Ventris is Guilliman's favorite son.
Hmm... You know what I had to do when I broke rules?
🙃
I'm sure he knows of Uriel and Pasanius' death oath into the Eye, and of the bullsh*t they had to endure: demonic baby factories, demon-Horned Iron warrior things with meat hooks, then getting kicked around by a Grey Knight LOL
I think Guilliman would be incredibly proud of Titus
"My Primarch, I can't help but notice a certain..... theme of our Chapter."
"Some of my brothers are fan of cartoons. Kurze likes Batman, I liked the Smurfs growing up."
ah tts a great show
*roboute after defeating all the chaos gods and making new marines that each was strong as a custodes and shoot lasers from their eye sockets* "Whatever do you mean?"
I’d half expect TTS!PapaSmurf to start UltraCrying when Roboute turns up, because he finally wouldn’t be stuck dealing with the bullshit on his own.
@laz kar None of them are just "boring invincible hero" anymore, though. While the Horus Heresy series was WAAAAAAY too long (and mostly not good), we did get expanded stories for each of the primarchs to supplement. Plus the Solar War series, and the individual primarch books. Each has rich, deep personalities, internal conflicts aplenty, and awkward interactions where they know what it's like to feel like a human, while dealing with the fact that they are obviously much more than that (while also being 12 foot tall supermen).
After following Ventris through his trials for years. His self doubt. His unquenching honour. It was great to see him finally meet his Father in the flesh. No other Ultramarine was more deserving.
Call me a sucker for a good story, but Ill take a hero who has had to take risks, and sometimes fails, than one who just gets everything handed to them.
None but the most prestigious of all Space Marines, Cato Si-
Wait, I just got word he died as soon as the Indomitus Crusade started.
@@jackdaw7792 wait really?
@@jackdaw7792 bro he returned
@@irengbamnikhilsingh7458 hey man that was a good ass story though and they finally made him actually likeable and reasonable like him needing alot of help and sacrifices weakening the greater demon to actually finish it
Ventris reminds me of Cpt.Titus from the game Spacemarine.
Titus was kinda based off Ventris...
@The Old One well... except for the fact that Titus got arrested by a bunch of black templars and an inquisitor under heresy claims
MyFaceIsMyShield RIP Titus
@@spacemarinechaplain9367 Titus did not die, he joined Deathwatch or something like that most likely.
@@myfaceismyshield5963 if he was really under arresst those Templars would have taken his gun. In reality the inquistor recognized him as a pariah and probably wanted to figure out he he is a space Marine if he's a pariah
Guilliman is behaving the way the emperor should have. If he taught his sons that humanity is what makes the emperium the best in the universe and the importance of compassion and humility I don't think the heresy would have happened. A true leader aquires his subordinates loyalty with respect, not with the fear of an iron fist. Love and respect when you can, merciless exterminatis when given no other choice.
Here Inquisitor. Someone is doubting the one true Emprah!
Blam!!!!!!!!
I'm getting sick and tired of people saying the Emperor didn't love his sons, or that he lacked compassion. The Emperor DID love his sons, in fact he loved them more than anything. He just had a grand, pre-determined destiny for his sons, it doesn't mean he saw them as simply tools or weapons. It's pretty damn obvious in the Emperor's last battle with Horus that the Emperor, even after everything Horus had done, couldn't help but hold back, which caused him to be mortally wounded to begin with. If he saw Horus simply as a weapon or a tool he wouldn't have held back, and he would still be alive.
The Emperor had compassion. He just knew what needed to be done to create and maintain the glory of the Imperium. You cannot reunite a million worlds with words. The Horus Heresy happened not because the Emperor failed in any way, or because he lacked compassion (he didn't). The Horus Heresy happened because the Primarchs were human, and just as susceptible to persuasion as a mere mortal. Horus truly believed what he was doing was right; that's how chaos corrupts and takes over the mind.
@@ReconCrusader
I don't believe the Emperor's soul was split into hundreds of fragments, but regardless sitting on a throne for 10000 years keeping a portal closed probably will make anyone go insane, only the Emperor has the willpower and mental strength to have done it for so long. One can imagine you'd probably lose any semblance of compassion or empathy, as no suffering is as great as the suffering in which the Emperor endures.
40k is not a re-imaged bible story. I don't know where you're getting that from. The Emperor didn't manipulate everyone so that he could ascend to becoming a god. He already was a god before ever coming to the fore of mankind. The fact is, NOBODY knows what the Emperor's true intentions and motivations are. It is now known, from Aaron Dembski-Bowden : "Everyone whom has the chance to be in the Emperor's presence perceives something different, based on their own experiences and expectations. Nothing He ever says should be taken at face value, since it is 'warped' by the narrator's interpretation."
The Emperor's massive psychic power (the same power that makes all humans compelled to kneel before him) affects how anyone perceives any interaction they have with the Emperor. Whatever they hear or believe they hear is warped. When the Emperor speaks with the Custodes, he talks about the Primarchs like they are his experiments, not his sons, because the Custodes believe they are the Emperor's true companions, those who stood by him the longest and the ones closest to him. And yet, when the Emperor speaks with the Primarchs, he often speaks with love and compassion.
We can only deduce the Emperor's intentions from his actions alone. He already is/was the single most powerful entity in the WH40k universe; your argument that he did it for power holds no water because he already had great power, and could obtain even greater power without even requiring to do all that he did for humanity. What did his supposed quest for power do for him? He now sits on a throne forever concentrated on keeping a portal closed. Why does he suffer for eternity, to keep humanity alive, when he could let the portal open, kill himself, and be resurrected?
Guilliman has really changed. He's way more human in 40k than he was in 30k.
I wonder if he sees Ventris as part of that humanising evolutional process that needs to happen if Astartes are to become what the Emperor hoped they would some day?
And what the Lamenters always have been.
Turns out failure has a way to humble people.
And now the Lion has become a bit more empathetic and fatherly. Guess they just needed 10k years to mature.
@@mranderson718 The Lion just needed a nap.
I think, Guilliman was actually happy to hear what Ventris was saying. Uriel reminded him Aeonid Tiel or probably even Rem Ventanus (Emperor I love that badass).
But in new lore fucking Cato reminds Guilliman of Tiel , that's an injustice if I ever so one
Nino Curic tbh new Cato is a character I really like
Uriel and Cato are to Ventanus and Thiel.
Much like how Dante and Mephiston are to Azkaellon and Nassir Amit.
Even 30K marines act with awe and trepidation upon coming face to face with primarchs, especially their own primarch. This reaction from Ventris is not surprising at all.
I want Ventris to become the next Ultramarines Chapter Master.
That would be great to read! Although if we ever get a change I think Sicarius is more likely
@@wolflordrho Ahh... Sicarius... Maybe he could die some honourable death somewhere, somehow, so the candidacy of Master Chapter could favour Ventris.
I just absolutely loved the man, after seeing how he took his exile with dignity, and how he dealt with the abominable Unfleshed just broke my heart.
Besides, Primarch Guilliman is having doubts more and more about his own work, the Codex Astartes, and perhaps some unorthodox thinking marines are more preferred than the unconventional textbook followers in this new era of the Imperium...
Apologies mate, I like to rant and wish-think about the future of 40k.
everybody knows captain titus is next chapter master
@@dominicvucic8654 sicarius is Titus's successor.
Never will happen as the great lord is back
Sounds like Ventris has quite a bit in common with Captain Titus. And sounds like they both might have been closer to Guilliman's intent.
Heresy ! I sense the touch of the warp in these words ! But yeah I agree
I distinctly remember the very first time I was introduced to the concept of the primarchs was from Ventris' perspective. He had just returned to Macragge and had decided to walk the halls where Guilliman was kept in stasis. Commenting on how he seemed as if he could wake at any moment. I read that nearly 15 years ago.
This really hit me like it was my own family reunion, surprisingly emotional. Thanks for sharing.
I hear you. As someone who lost his father early in life, this whole scene hit really hard for me.
The Ventris novels was the first Space Marine novels I read. The series was great.
Same here
Storm of iron was my first 40k novel but I use to read the Warhammer fantasy stories years before.
I'm almost done with the first volume of the chronicles and cannot wait to read the second.
those novels helped me through some of the hardest times in my life, it made life bearable, the author will never know that a kid who had just lost his father took his mind of his grief by escaping to the world he created in those novel, I'll be forever grateful to the author
Damn. Seems like Bobby G really appratiates Ventris. Something is telling me, that Ventris might become very close to his primarch, which I would love to see
I'm so Happy Ventris Met Guilliman. He always believed he was healing. Cool to see him meet his Hero.
I was completely stunned when Ventriss was unable to stand in Guillimans presence. I mean that little line of text really helped me to try and imagine, to comprehend, what Ventriss was feeling… to be in the almost divine presence of his primarch was so overwhelming for this venerated and veteran space marine he was “unable” to stand or even look at Guilliman. That is extremely telling to the sheer force of will Guilliman exudes. Imagine what his presence can do to mortal men! Just a really cool insight into how strong the aura of a primarch is; how so much time has passed since a true loyalist primarch walked the universe.
All primachs save Angron had this ability.
I really liked the two omnibuses that followed Uriel Ventris, he's a likeable character and following him through those novels was a lot of fun.
I love Ventris. Such an amazing character. Gotta love Guilliman too. A truly good human.
Great video mate. I feel like it’s almost a bad thing to like Guilliman in the 40k community but videos like this just make me like the guy even more
Couldn't agree more :)
I am an Imperial player. Especifically a Blood Angels player, and if there is characters I dislike a lot are mostly from chaos, I just don't like them at all. There are a few Imperial characters I dislike, but I never disliked Guilliman at all. I always looked at him as a nice guy
I felt that first time i was introduced to him but the more and more i have heard about guilliman the more i liked him
I'm 41 and been reading since the now retconned Inquisitor and original Space Marine books.
Ventris is by far my favourite Ultramarine, and after all he's been through probably one of the most underrated Space Marines in all the lore... he's like a non psychic Grey Knight, what he pulled off against Perterabo's Iron Fairies I think even a veteran Grey Knight would have found difficult.
This is a rather late message so I doubt you'll ever see it, but maybe looking into the most underrated space marines might be a good topic...Definitely maybe going back to those books might be worth it.
Keep up the great work, my channel and passion may be all about sim racing, but I've been a 40k fan ever since I got the space crusade box set as a very young teen, and it remains something I follow as much as I can to this day.
I follow most of the major 40&30k RUclipsrs but your passion really stands out. You're up there with the best of them, and better then most.
Iron Fairies...
Nice nickname!
Are you eager to see what happens with the yellow king ?
I like to call them Iron C%nts, Iron Bitches, Rusty F@ggots, Perturabo's Little Sissies, The Siegefailures, Failbaddon's Gnomes, The REEEEEE Legion, etc, but yours is better.
You're one of the few I've heard that pronounce Guilliman's name correctly. I appreciate that 😂
I cant understand how anyone could say it any other way 😂
Row-bute (byoot) is how I’ve always done it.
Gillyman. Emphasis on the first syllable.
According to W40k Lexicanum, Roboute Guilliman's name is pronounced /rɒb'uːt 'guːlɪmæn/, roh-BOUT GOOL-ih-man.
Robot Girlyman.
Robust Girlyman
Ventris : ever heard of the deamonculaba?
Guilliman : what was that?
Ventris : a very traumatising experience
Guilliman : do tell
After telling it...
Guilliman: "Well... I knew Perturabo was disturbed, but BY THE THRONE, he got really deep in this, innit?"
Cpt ventris is the most human ultrasmurf. I enjoyed this book a lot. It's was very well written
I am in love with the return of Gulliman and how its effected the imperium ah i cannot wait to read dark imperium.
Get on with it mate - Its absolutely phantastic. All the new lore rocks (watchers of the throne included). May I suggest the audiobook? Its an unique experience
dante: over 1000 years old.

Hi Wolf Lord Rho...
Excellent channel man. I have been into 40k for close to 30 years and of the guys doing this sort of thing I find your videos the most personal and in depth. The narration is less like a lecture and more like a personal conversation...like you are swapping theory and lore over a pint or two....and your vocal delivery is...ummmm...soothing? Must be the fact that we share that south of Watford Gap accent. I particularly enjoy the way in which you more deeply explore the more human, and dare I say emotional side of the primarchs and their sons. Keep it up brother...I eagerly await further installments...
The Emperor protects.......?
Hearing you giggle at how you think about ventris' reaction during his humility, makes me smile to think what great stories are told and how they affect us. Thanks for the videos! Keep up the good work.
I'm with you on this one. Ventris' story wasn't my first 40k novel, but it was close. It was a thrill to see him again and him getting Guilliman's aproval.
It is the same thrill when when we saw in a Horus Heresy book that one of the tubes Fabius Biles was growing an astartes in was labeled "Honsu."
I just want to comment on one thing. You voiced your surprise that Guilliman approved of Ventris not treating the Codex as a bible.. There is even a 30k short story in which Guilliman tells one of his sons that the Codex should never be treated as a bible, but only a guideline...for if one always adhered to the rules and were unable to adapt one would eventually become predictable and beatable..
Th primarch also added that not even a great mind such as his could foresee every single possible scenario of war. So the Codex was never intended as a scholarly book and any deviation from it should be punished. It was always intended as a guideline, but leaving the option to adapt and not do everything by the book. Having said that the way the 40k Ultramarines treated the Codex prior to his resurrection (i.e. as a bible as you appropiately put it) is actually a perversion of what the Primarch had intended it to be when he wrote it.
Unlikely for lesser mind, even if that is one of adeptus astartes, to be wiser than that of Primarch. So it's kinda stupid to not expect people to treat Codex as Bible. Primarch maybe wrong but he's more likely by a million fold to be more right than you.
@@ptbot3294 Haha just add a line to the codex saying "All of the above is to be regarded as rough guideline in known scenarios and cannot substitute adaptation to changing situations" at the end
Abel Babel the problem is that over the millennia the codex has gone through multiple interpretations and given the amount of second founding chapters born of the ultramarines its hard to know which one is true
In hindsight he should've put a reminder at the beginning of the book
"The codex is merely a guideline, not some holy writ."
Ventris really should be given more credit than shown here. He did stare down the literal embodiment of death when it re-awoke. And no I will not be taking that retcon of it being a C'tan shard.
I don't know about everyone here but this passage of the book always makes me cry with pride joy .but hearing you read it with your accent
Man crying Wright now
Ventris is the man. One of my early reads too. Love this interaction.
It warms my heart that after reading the tales of Ventris at a very young age, the canon has caught up to the point where he finally meets the heart of his chapter, no, his legion.

Love it. Been playing the 4th company for years of the Ultramarines.
Its like dad coming back home 😭
Ventris is basically Thiel in 40k and G man loves it.
Great video. I don't have lots of free time to read, so it's nice to get some awesome bits of lore on the go. I especially loved this very human interaction, and the candid conversation that occurred between Ventris and Gulliman. Thanks for your time and work Rho!!!

The first Space Marine I ever met was Uriel Ventris in the Ultramarines Omnibus. One of the first acts I ever saw him perform was kneeling before his father's stasis chamber in self doubt. To see the interaction come full circle and him finally get answers to his questions was so fucking amazing.
I have to say I am absolutly impressed by Ventris words of Xenos behaving with Honor. It´s beautiful to hear something other then pure Xenophobia! Great writing!
Uriel Ventris is one of the best characters to come out of modern 40k. Nevermind the chapter, he's just excellently written.

I love this, Uriel Ventris also was the reason I got into 40K.
Damn it now I want Titus (WHO IS NO HERETIC) to meet his gene daddy.

love that part
With the announcement of Dawn of Fire series I hope we get more of what was hinted at in this conversation, the Primaris talking about the Empire that was ... and how they react to the Empire they are awoken to ...
Also with the recent Ventris in front of the still in statis Guilliman video, comming back to this, the reaction from Ventris really feels natural ...
I have always loved Ventris
Uriel was censured if I am correct or at least questioned at length and looked down upon by the higher Counsel. His Captain was of similar character as Uriel and shaped him in the end.
I respect the Ultramarine's. Sure it lacks the blood thirsty Blood Angel's aspect or the darkness and hidden motives like the 1st Chapter and the stealthy undertakings the Raven Guard excel at. They have suffered but nothing like the son's of Vulkan and the loss of a Primach that the Iron Hands experienced (they still had a 'father' to gaze upon whilst Robute was in stasis).
Amazing book and it ends on a high note wich leaves you hungry for the sequel wich is also great.
I would like a conversation between Bjorn the fell handed and Guilliman... about the old times
Love your work.
I never even played table top but you and Arch have such passion and joy for the lore that I can’t help but enjoy your videos who knows maybe some day I’ll even start a army.

im no ultrasmurf fanboy, but i enjoyed the omnibus, and i love the roman influence on the chapter. Roboute is one of the most fair and just of the primarchs. He treats his sons well.
Black Library turned Guilliman from a meme to my favourite Primarch
I feel like i'd just start kneeling and weeping if I met a primarch in real life. Transhuman dread is for real.

I was very excited by this meeting as well as I am a huge fan of the Ultramarines books. However than same love leads me to a very important question: Where is Pasanius!?
Guilliman should be Emperor
He was taught the values of honor and respect by his adopted father Konor, he values his men and the citizens of the Imperium and is constantly fighting to reunite the galaxy after the Horus Heresy.

A great video, Uriel Ventris meeting Roboute Guilliman. Eeerrrmmm, I would just like to add a little something. Roboute Guilliman coming out of stasis has caused problems for Chapter Master Marneus Calgar. This has caused some friction. To cut a long story short, rather than Calgar fall to darkness, let him join Deathwatch! Chaplain Cassius has had no end of tours with the Watch. Let Calgar take a turn, or take up the Black. Calgar would be a very valuble asset for the Watch.
With regard to the primaris reflecting and expounding the idealogy from the crusade era Guilliman, I could see how that would be a beneficial aspect, with g.man being the in depth planner I imagine he would foresee an initial resistance to the primaris integration. The ability to so concisely and clearly convey stories and ideals directly from what many consider a more pure time, a time that all current space marine chapters revere and strive to emulate, would in a way help to draw the non-primaris Astartes to them, to reduce the initial desire to keep them at a distance and isolated. The second aspect I believe would be to aid in the loyalty, that spiritual infallibility that is so necessary to resist the lures of Chaos and help solidify their mental and emotional commitment to the Imperium and its ideologies...Or it could be just a side effect of the variation from the creation of our 30k Super soldiers i guess...I prefer to believe g.man had intent in this though.
That book when Uriel went to the iron warriors planet was so good

Vulkan,Corax,Russ and khan? They fucked off . their slighted honor mattered more than the imperium they swore to protect. ( Ferrous, sanguinious and Dorn are excused from this cuz they're dead)
Dorn might be alive my dude and isn’t the Primarch of the dark angels asleep due to the watchers or something so he could probs be excused.
