  • There are many ways to store your homemade soap at home, and climate is a big factor! In this video I share my soap storage ideas and tips, and go through my full setup here at home in the subtropics. Below are all the links to my products here in Australia, and other links for overseas soap makers!
    For AUSTRALIAN SOAP MAKERS:
    DEHUMIDIFIER:
My dehumidifier was purchased from Ausclimate www.ausclimate.com.au/
I have no affiliation with this company, but their products are great and their customer service is outstanding.
This is the particular model I have, though I didn’t pay full price for it! I recommend calling the company and seeing if you can get them to make you a deal. www.ausclimate.com.au/product...
There are other companies who sell dehumidifiers, you can do a search around for what’s available in your country.
New to soap making? This is important!
Sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide (lyes) used in soap making, in granular or flake form or in solution with water/other liquids, as well as raw soap batter, are highly corrosive and require careful and attentive handling and the proper use of personal protective equipment. Love how your soaps are, as you say, “simple”. Many content creators make complicated (and very pretty) soaps, but they are just not practical for me. Your down-to-earth style and wisdom from years of soap making are invaluable!

Hi. This is the first time I am writing a public comment on RUclips for any video. Firstly what caught my attention to your channel were the topics! they are very relatable ones, if someone plans to start a business.
Your channel can be the go-to channel.
You have covered in detail, step-by-step process, giving attention to minute things like 'how to store the soap' etc. and yet so simple to understand.
Really appreciate the efforts that you have put in to make the videos. I am not sure if online courses cover so much detailing too :D. Thank you so much ❤️😊

You have helped me so much getting my soap business started. Now I am almost making 40 to 50 lbs of soap 3-4 times a week. Also, I have started selling at few of the local farmer's market. I still get nervous discounting the water. This video was very helpful, since this year in California has been very dry and humid. I noticed you mentioned you went to India, can you do a video on what items you purchased there for your soap supplies. thanks you

Hi Elly, We , (I and my daughters - 13 and 15 years old) ran into your soap making videos and we were so hooked up. You give us inspiration to make soaps as gifts for coming holidays. My daughters also told me that they would like to have a home biz selling soap to save up for their future University tuitions. I am so grateful for your very informative instructions through which I feel your kindness and sweetness as well as your quirkiness. LOL... My daughters said :" Mom, finally we found someone that's as quirky as you!".Lol. Have a wonderful day Elly!

Thank you so much Elly. I will have to find something for curing process. Yesterday i started my first batch with your Castile soap recipe. I didn’t want to invest so much and my friend said that I don’t need to buy a stick blender , so I tried with the hand whisk and it took so long time as you said in the video. So that I ordered one from online. I can’t wait to use it with the next batch!
Fingers cross! I hope it works!

    • @EllysEverydaySoapMaking
      @EllysEverydaySoapMaking  4 года назад

You're welcome! If there's one thing that you really do need, it's the stick blender! You certainly don't need fancy moulds or racks or anything else, but without the blender soaps often separate and need re-blending/mixing. My stick blender that I've been using for 6 years now cost me $12 from kmart - a cheap one is all you need!

    • @fonphone2851
      @fonphone2851 4 года назад

      Hello Elly.
As I am checking how is the first batch going during being set in the mold. It’s been 48 hours already, i could notice that it is set, ivory white color but it is still soft (with gently pressing on the surface by point finger) I could sneak peak on sides of silicone mold , I found no oil separation. I kept them covered in the blanket and put in the box (I saw other soap maker put in the foam box). I am quite sure that it is not ready to be cut. I thought that it probably be about the room temperature I keep where is too hot? I am afraid that it will be melt or the batter would not be developed.
      Please advise Elly.

Hi Paulette, that's so nice! I've been here all along, posting videos weekly or fortnightly lately. I've been trying to keep up a regular supply of both soap and bread making videos! I've got some really cool soap recipe videos planned for the next few months. This weekend I'm filming a liquid soap recipe tutorial!! :)

@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking thank you for the response. I truly was not expecting it so fast. Your videos are great. I look forward to searching on the ones I missed. Keep up the good work. Oh, by the way do you sale your soaps?

Thanks Paulette, I try to respond to comments every day :) No, I don't sell my soaps, just for friends and family at the moment. Thank you again! I really appreciate the support.

Wow extremely helpful! 😊 Now I know why I see homemade glycerin (melt and pour type) soaps in plastic, but these types of fatty soaps in boxes or some kind of paper.

Thanks Ellie, your tips are great and such common sense. I get those plastic rack things from my greengrocer and they're good too for soap curing Luv n light x

Thank you Davane, I appreciate your suggestion! Tumeric soap is lovely - you can just add the dried powder to any soap recipe :)
I will put that one on my video list though!

Again Elly super informative video. I could listen to your voice all day. Do you have a problem with dust in the first couple of weeks on the racks? Also would I just leave it drying in the garage with Melbourne's weather? Thank you again.

Thank you, no I don't have any issues with dust, but if you're worried you could cover them with a very light cotton cloth or similar. Yes I think your garage would be fine :)

    Nice! Thanks for that, Elly.
I always keep silica gel packets and use them.
    Have a nice weekend!
(I saw that guitar next to your curing cupboard, do you play?)

Fantastic, thanks Phil! Yes silica gel works, but only for a time. They need to be dried again to be re-used. Better than nothing though!

Hi Elly, you are my inspiration. I really love and appreciate your work. M getting lots of information and knowledge from you, since last month I have been practicing and making soaps, all thanks to you. Just need to know after keeping the soap wrapped around the towel for 12 hours, I can see some round dotted spots on the soap, don't know what went wrong, please do share your experience, thank you. Best wishes and regards from India.

Thanks Roshni, that could be a few things - undissolved lye, some other ingredient. Check the pH of your soap after a few days - if it tests ok it will be fine to use :)
