    I took a psychology class and what you said about believing that something will happen makes it happen is actually very true. This is because when you believe that a goal of yours will one day be accomplished, your brain unconsciously takes steps/actions that support in reaching said goal. For ex. a person might start eating healthier - drinking more water, or even just simply taking better care of themselves, simply because they unconsciously become aware that these are factors that would aid in achieving the goal of having longer hair or weight loss or basically anything else. There is an actual term for this but I can't remember it at the moment but really great advice big sis! Love your channel 😘💜

    It took me 2 years to grow my hair to the middle of my back. 1.Salmon 2. Fish oil pills 3. Water 4. Supplementing small amounts of biotin like 300mcg not the full 1,000mcg. Taking the 1,000mcg did grow my hair super fast the first time and it was very thick and long. But I made the mistake of not taking it for like a few months and my hair fell out and I had to restart at above my shoulders. When I did the biotin almost gave me acne. So it’s a balance I take biotin as a supplement. Literally mean I supplement. So I take 300 mcg two to three times a week. Not ever single day. If you drink enough water you can take it everyday but god forbid you don’t drink enough one day the next day you will have breakouts. Anyway don’t be discouraged and trust me, Salmon, biotin, fish oil pills and water. Eat salmon for 2 days in a row and then check your growth. The fish oils change your hair from dry to shiny and moist. This is why white people’s hair grows longer because the moisture that is naturally in their hair prevents breakage. If you up your oil production from the inside your hair will act the exact same way.

    Great tips! Just an FYI tip on swimming in chlorine water, I found that when I wet my daughter's hair first and smother it in conditioner before getting in the pool, it is not as drying afterwards and it does not get damaged. Apparently when your hair cuticles are already filled with water and have that protective layer of conditioner over it, it is more difficult for the chlorine to enter your hair shaft.

      I swim 3 times a week. I pre-wet my hair with a mixture of oil, conditioner, and water that I have spray bottle. I soak my hair with this and then put on my swim caps. I use a Lycra swim cap under a silicone swim cap to avoid breakage by the silicone or rubber swim cap alone. You can swim and maintain your healthy hair.

      @@re3lre3l57 Since I wrote that post, I have discovered Swimma. They are swimming caps that truly prevent your hair from getting wet. My daughter goes underwater over and over and bone dry hair when we get out. Occasionally, her back edges get damp, but after I bought a bigger one that problem resolved. I even use one now for myself. Its truly awesome. The best $20 I've spent in a long time. Bonus is they are made in South Africa!

    • @re3lre3l57

      I’ve seen those! Unfortunately, they wouldn’t work for my. My hair is long but not thick, so I’d never fill that up. I do use a long hair cap that has the extra bump for my bun. Also, I swim laps and do flip turns and need a more aerodynamic cap. I’m super happy that you found something that works, though.

      She meant hair growth resembles plant growth, like if you trying to grow that plant In some dry ass soil, no water, no tlc it will wither and die, same for our hair, if we trying to grow hair, it needs some good tlc or like the plant, will die. We need vitamins and minerals for hair to flourish.

    I feel like I create more knots and more shedding when I finger detangle. It's strange. Best way for me is soaking wet hair, tons of conditioner, and my tangle teaser :D You have beautiful hair! xx

    • @tacthom
      @tacthom 7 лет назад +33

      wolfbabe I think the caveat with her suggestions are that you have to know your own hair. I have also had great results from the tangle teaser. Personally, I have used a lot of the suggested techniques related to the low manipulation and deep conditioning, but in learning my hair, I have found that keeping it straight helps me to retain the greatest amount of length. Many people might not opt for my regimine, but the hair care process I use for my hair works for me. My hair is also just below my waist and above my tail bone. My ends are full and healthy and my curl pattern is still intact despite the fact that I straighten my hair (once and only once) every 2 weeks.
      I atribute my successes to learning healthy hair practices that work for me personally despite who recommends it. Just as she recommended, I too deep condition each time I wash (every 2 weeks) plus I do a 2 step protein treatment every 6 weeks. I have learned that when I wear my hair in its curly state, I have to manipulate it daily, and for me daily manipulation has caused too many single strand knots which has caused tangles which in turn has caused me breakage. I just came off of an 11 week stint of wearing my hair in its curly state. Based on my personal experience of my hair, I have learned that the longest I can go with my hair in a natural state is 2 weeks at a time. Ultimately this may lead to me flat ironing 1x per month, but all in all keeping my hair stretched allows me to only need to do one trim each year 1 to 1.5 inches off.

    I am grateful that my hair is really growing longer but as it gets 'longer' I get lazier. It took me awhile to get used to having hair below my neck. It really is a lifestyle. Now that I am more used to dealing with my hair like it is long I am ready to get back into protective styles to get it to bra strap length. Rivy O For my hair, having air blowing on it on a high setting to help it dry quicker is still more drying than just letting it dry on its own time. But that's my hair, it's picky. If blow drying on cold works for you, definitely do what works for you!

    • @sydneym.8306
      @sydneym.8306 6 лет назад +20

      Kinda but no. Air drying your hair absorbs the water as it tries to evaporate. A blow dryer on cold can still dry your hair out because the speed of the air is blowing the water off your hair as opposed to letting your hair completely soak up what it can

    I have to trim around every 2-3 months also because my ends split very easily. If I go too long then my hair will split further than what I can see. For example I can get a trim and a few days later I will notice splits again because possibly my hair was split further than what my stylist can see.

    Honestly, she has 3c hair so it's easier for that texture to grow long. Why? Because the texture is smoother and the curls are larger so they don't break off as easily as 4a/4b/4c hair. I do think her advice is good, but please note that finger detangling 4c hair is a different animal than detangling 3c hair.

    • @PowerInYourCurl
      @PowerInYourCurl  7 лет назад +64

      I also have fine hair that tangles like a beast if the wind blows too hard. We all have hair difficulties and struggles that we have to work through to grow our hair to its best potential. Hair density, porosity and hair strand thickness also play a huge part into building your healthy hair care regimen - not just curl pattern.

    • @daonlyboriqua11
      @daonlyboriqua11 7 лет назад +126

      Thats just an excuse. There are RUclipsrs and girls other places with 4c hair down to their ass. Type 4 hair grows just fine when you take care of it properly and have good hair practices. As well as a good diet. Curl pattern is irrelevant. I have thick af 3c/4a hair and only finger detangle.

    • @dawnlittle2501
      @dawnlittle2501 7 лет назад +63

      4a/4b/4c hair grows equally as fast as all other hair types, no doubt. However, it is more fragile than looser curl patterns and therefore it is more challenging to grow long. I have 4b/4c hair but my family members have 3c/4a. I've spent my life doing their hair and of course my own. My hair requires much more effort to retain length. Imagine someone with straight hair telling you that your hair is no easier to care for than their own. Keep in mind, a lot of 4b/4c RUclipsrs have grown their hair long by keeping it under weaves and wigs for long periods of time, which is not the same as manipulating it. My point is MY hair is fragile and breaks and I have the experience to know that it is not as resilient as looser curly hair types. Sadly, the majority of natural RUclips vloggers aren't 4c, that fact alone proves a point.

    Thank you for the informative video on growing out and maintaining healthy hair. It's wonderful that we have technology that allows us to learn on a larger scale how to care for our hair in a healthy manner. I feel as though somewhere in history we as African-American women lost the traditions and understanding of how to maintain healthy hair, and we fell into a thinking like much of the world that we can't have long, healthy hair. Yet many of the tutorials online have shared we are capable if we are willing to patiently work for it, while adopting healthy habits. I truly appreciate your overall message that you must adopt a healthy lifestyle if you want beautiful healthy hair. This means valuing yourself, taking time for yourself to exercise, eat healthy, incorporating water, vitamins and positive self messages, while journaling along the way. Other subtle key points that I heard you bring out was setting goals, being accountable to your hair-your self and creating routines, while being patient. These are all wonderful messages to incorporate into our lives in other personal pursuits. If you can dream it, you can obtain it! Good luck ladies in your hair journey and personal self discoveries. Remember your strength and beauty radiates from the inside out regardless of the length of your mane...keep smiling sistas, you got this!

    Finger detangling is a big one instead of breaking knots with brush. If I did this my hair would be so much thicker longer and healthier. My hair is also very fine and gets messy just walking outside. I keep my hair in 2 braids on each side at night so it won’t tangle as much in my sleep. Also I love your hair in the picture with your natural curls. So beautiful

    If u have long hair - b4 u wash it,, brush it out so no tangles 1st. Then put a scrunchy in your hair loosely like 23/s the way down your hair length. Now wash your hair but be gentle. Put condit middle length to ends b4 shampooing. Dont worry you'll get all of the shampoo/condit out. After you rinse the shampoo/condit out, take the scrunchy out and finish rinsing thoroughly. No more major tangles. The scrunchy stops the hair from getting into a tangled mess, which happens when you wash your head. So nice not to have a major tangled mess after a shower.Then rinse scrunchy & let dry.

      It won't take so many years to grow. I cut my hair chin length 23rd Dec 2020 and today 28th june 2021 my hair is now armpit length.

    My hair is very short, it has been around the same length for over ten years. I wonder if my hair ever would get longer than it is, or if naturally, my hair just can't any longer.

      Mysty Redz have you saw a professional hair stylist that specializes in natural hair? I had to figure out technique and paying attention to what products hairstylists/RUclipsrs with my hair type recommends. Terminal length can also be a factor, which explains why some ppl can’t grow their hair past a certain length

    I've just seen this video and really appreciate all this advice from clearly an intelligent, articulate and beautiful lady. I have been finger detangling my hair for years and I've found that since eating healthily and quitting some life style habits like smoking and drinking, and healthy eating I've now got hair up to my shoulder of a good quality ! YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL MY SISTER and I wish I subscribed when I 1st started my natrual hair journey! 👑⭐😘❤💚🖤 God bless you my sister !

    🤷‍♀️I think that having long hair is not what makes you beautiful, short, long or in the middle. 🤷‍♀️it's just really how you feel about you and my hair grows very long. But as I became older I like a little bit shorter🤷‍♀️and and I'm ok with that. So to all the women out there know your beautiful ☺💗🤗🏵❤🌼😍

      I take the Mane Choice Manetabolism hair vitamins. I am not all that consistent now but when I was consistent I could definitely see a difference.

    Thanks for the education about trimming. I trim every 6 months with my professional. That's the only time I use heat. Only two years, 3 months into my natural journey & my hair is collar bone length. I did the big chop = super short about an inch or two, Seriously.
    Thanks for this video.

    Facts..shes right ladies..keep those vitamins within reach..good advice girl.. I'm terrible at deep conditioning because it's time consuming. My hair still grew, the tangling process should be minimal because it causes breakage.

    Can you do a video on how to thicken hair

  • @2Ryled

    You can go swimming just put on coconut oil b4 you go and put in a bun. Then swim but keep your head out of water. If it gets wet the coconut oil protects it, and it won't be greasy mess bc its not conditioner. Its a heavier barrier.
