- The finger position for the B major chord is one of the most difficult for my students. At the same time, it's both useful and, at times, necessary. Here are 3 of the easiest and best sounding ways to finger the B major chord on guitar.

I've spent 37 years avoiding the b chord and I'm just fine.
shatchett0 haha
Which chord do u replace it with?
Avinash Sharma I think it’s a joke lol
@@herbalgiles9468 probably haha
Thanks to a Good RUclipsr, he taught me this already before i gave in 🤣😁
They should rename that 3rd B-chord Arthritis minor
Drew G Heh, I never do that chord like the second one, I always did it like the third, in the beginning it was hard but I was lazy to put all the fingers in each string so I barred one finger.
Arthritis MAJOR you mean..
Drew G lol. Yep!
more of like flexor digitorum superficialis tendon strain major rather than arthritis 🤣🤣
haha funny
Easy(iest) to B reak your fingers
Big Black Rock 😂😂
I really like how you say to use the chord even if it's not perfect because we can tweek as we get more proficient. I get discouraged because a string sounds dead or something, yet the chord is good enough to play a song and no-one else is noticing. Better to play it than not, and you're right, it will get better! Thank you!
You have such a warm, encouraging personality. It's a relief to hear a teacher / instructor say that it's okay to not be perfect.
Sadly, my fingers aren't 4 dimensional.

YES THE FIRST FORM WAS MAGICAL
Sounds great lovelovediversity

That third form of B is some poltergeist shit... how the hell does anyone's finger bend and then unbend like that?
It's practice and patience Gina Moffit
You can find a good teacher or systematic online lesson course, practice 5 days a week, and persist...don't stop - Tomas Michaud

I do version 2...that third one just took me by surprise. I looked this up because I saw someone playing it this way. Is there a situation where version three would be preferable to 2?
Actually, most rock guitarist do version 3, seldom version 2. Version 2 is more common with classical style.
Practice and patience :)
Interesting you miss some things being self taught. :P Any thoughts on why the diff versions are popular with diff styles?
Wait so even professionals have trouble play this damn chord?? I don’t feel as bad about myself now
Don't feel bad Cameron 😉
I'm right there with you. Lmao
I've been playing 45 years and I still have trouble with playing B

So we should not watch this video....?
I just a barre B. easier
I have been playing for around 50 years. I have avoided b chords during that whole time with few problems...recently I wanted to play a song where only a b chord sounded good. No matter what I could not master it. I watched your video....followed along and on the very first strum had a good sounding b chord! Not perfect but unless an accomplished player was listening it was very good and enough to get by. As you say I can build on that and improve it. By watching you finger placement I also suddenly realize that the fingers do not have to be perfectly across next to the fret but can be diagonal as long as the strings ring true....so simple but you are the first person to point that out clearly. This can of course be applied to even barre chord placement. In 5 minutes you solved a 50 year old issue. I also like how you state it could take months to perfect this but just playing what you can sounds OK as long as the basics are covered. In a nutshell I had no issue with stretching my fingers or placement.....I was just trying to keep my fingers too close to the fret. The way you explain to find a middle ground between the frets where there is no thudding or buzzing is simplistically brilliant. I think your pleasant presentation and straight forward style is why you were able to help me where others could not. Again...thank you!
Three forms of the B Chord.
Choose which one you want to start off with. Its truly fun learning from the easiest to a bit more difficult but at the end, its very rewarding trying it all.
Promise!
The arthritis chord
Playing the B chord like an F chord on the 7th fret= genius! You just saved my fingers :)

great to hear that!
Thanks!

You are so sweet and patient. I love the way you teach. It's almost relaxing 😊
Folks the main thing to remember, is that practice, practice, and more practice will get you to where you want, and need to be. It's that simple. The more you practice, the better you will get.
Your teaching style is the reason I got back into guitar. These instructional videos are the perfect pace and explained well. Thank you

You're welcome. I struggled with the B chord when I first started and I'm hoping to save others what I went through.
Thanks Helped me alot with my guitar playing. Started about a week ago and I'm trying to learn as much as I can.
Thanks a lot !! I checked out many videos about how to play B chord. I found yours are the most useful. I suffer from mirror hand movement condition. So I learn guitar to overcome it. Now I enjoy playing it. B chord is one of my biggest problem. Your video gave me more courage that I just have to practice hard and I should nail it some day. Thank you.
Thanks for the video, Tomas! That was helpful.
Thankyou so much! I've been stuck with this chord for quite some time.

Thank you so much, Hanna! This is really my passion that I'd love to share. :)
the first and second are the easiest to me, and thank you so much! so many of my favorite songs that i would love to play have a b chord in them, and with this it gives me that opportunity to learn them with ease
Great to hear that, keep it up!
BRILLIANT! You make us feel like were capable of doing them all right from start without getting pleasure from intimidating us like 98.9% of RUclips tutorials.. so weird of them
I've been playing for years and this helped demystify the B chord! Still need help with my G string :) Happy Covid practice yall!
You're a gem. This chord discouraged me, and your approach to teaching both competently taught me and fostered my love for guitar. Thank you!
You're very welcome Caesar. I'm glad to hear that.

Thanks, Tomas. This was so helpful! I'm a singer/songwriter (not a guitarist), but I often use guitar to compose. B major is a challenge, but I don't want to leave it out. It's easier to play on piano, but I love the ease, portability, and sound of the guitar.

Is that so, Julian :) Im happy to inform you that Tomas's lesson for this week is on B -- B minor scale! You excited? I hope you'll gonna like it too. It will be out tomorrow. Watch out for it :)

Thank you so much for the kind words, Xandru :)
Thank you so much. The first way of playing is great for me. As I get better I get better I will try the other forms
I appreciate your way of learning PC. If you did it the first one then there's no reason you can't do for the other forms. Be optimistic. You can do it.
why isn't the first way presented here more widely known? i was trying to play a b chord and tried so many different ways that were a million times harder and couldn't do it, but i can actually do it with the first way you showed. thanks!
Hi Adrianna I feel deeply honored and humbled with all that you've said. It really takes a lot of effort on my part just to make this lesson easier for all of you. Thanks a lot!
Thanks your guitar lesson helped me a lot with the B chord.

B major chord is one of the most difficult for my students. Here's 3 of the EASIEST and best sounding ways to finger the B major chord on guitar.
#guitar #guitarchords #guitarlessonsonline
Hey the second type of b chord you did is just impossible for me! When i press the fifth string on the second fret with my index it's not that i'm getting a hard time putting my other three fingers to the right places, i just can't reach the strings on the fourth fret where the three should press. I don't know whether i've got short fingers or what. It just sucks! I'm a beginner bydaway. What should i do?
Hi Jhomel Dela Cruz a lot of guitar students also have your concern, below is Tomas Michaud's take on that :)
"I commend you on taking a first step...getting help. I want to assure you that it's very unlikely that the size of your hands is really a problem. If they really are small like a child just get a smaller guitar (3/4 size). Many students have told me over the years they thought their hand were too small or too large. The real issue is just practice and patience. The best advice is 1) find a good teacher or systematic online lesson course, 2) practice 5 days a week, and 3) persist...don't stop. I know this may sound too simplistic. _ Tomas Michaud

Thanks! You're really nice. You're probably right that i just might lack a few practices so it gives me hard times to pull off that chord position. I haven't told you it was my first try and that i haven't been having tried it for like days. So i probably should give it some time and be as patient as i can be. And the suggestions you recommended, i'll definitely try them straight away. Thanks again you're very kind to answer back very quickly. THANKS! 👍👍👍 i'll check out the links you put in your comment.
