      Drew G Heh, I never do that chord like the second one, I always did it like the third, in the beginning it was hard but I was lazy to put all the fingers in each string so I barred one finger.

    I really like how you say to use the chord even if it's not perfect because we can tweek as we get more proficient. I get discouraged because a string sounds dead or something, yet the chord is good enough to play a song and no-one else is noticing. Better to play it than not, and you're right, it will get better! Thank you!

      I do version 2...that third one just took me by surprise. I looked this up because I saw someone playing it this way. Is there a situation where version three would be preferable to 2?

    • @TomasMichaud
      @TomasMichaud  10 лет назад

      Actually, most rock guitarist do version 3, seldom version 2. Version 2 is more common with classical style.

  • @kevinmccormick6434

    I have been playing for around 50 years. I have avoided b chords during that whole time with few problems...recently I wanted to play a song where only a b chord sounded good. No matter what I could not master it. I watched your video....followed along and on the very first strum had a good sounding b chord! Not perfect but unless an accomplished player was listening it was very good and enough to get by. As you say I can build on that and improve it. By watching you finger placement I also suddenly realize that the fingers do not have to be perfectly across next to the fret but can be diagonal as long as the strings ring true....so simple but you are the first person to point that out clearly. This can of course be applied to even barre chord placement. In 5 minutes you solved a 50 year old issue. I also like how you state it could take months to perfect this but just playing what you can sounds OK as long as the basics are covered. In a nutshell I had no issue with stretching my fingers or placement.....I was just trying to keep my fingers too close to the fret. The way you explain to find a middle ground between the frets where there is no thudding or buzzing is simplistically brilliant. I think your pleasant presentation and straight forward style is why you were able to help me where others could not. Again...thank you!

      Hey the second type of b chord you did is just impossible for me! When i press the fifth string on the second fret with my index it's not that i'm getting a hard time putting my other three fingers to the right places, i just can't reach the strings on the fourth fret where the three should press. I don't know whether i've got short fingers or what. It just sucks! I'm a beginner bydaway. What should i do?

      Hi Jhomel Dela Cruz a lot of guitar students also have your concern, below is Tomas Michaud's take on that :)
      "I commend you on taking a first step...getting help. I want to assure you that it's very unlikely that the size of your hands is really a problem. If they really are small like a child just get a smaller guitar (3/4 size). Many students have told me over the years they thought their hand were too small or too large. The real issue is just practice and patience. The best advice is 1) find a good teacher or systematic online lesson course, 2) practice 5 days a week, and 3) persist...don't stop. I know this may sound too simplistic. _ Tomas Michaud

      Thanks! You're really nice. You're probably right that i just might lack a few practices so it gives me hard times to pull off that chord position. I haven't told you it was my first try and that i haven't been having tried it for like days. So i probably should give it some time and be as patient as i can be. And the suggestions you recommended, i'll definitely try them straight away. Thanks again you're very kind to answer back very quickly. THANKS! 👍👍👍 i'll check out the links you put in your comment.

    Thank you for posting this video. I've been playing guitar for a long time but I just realized that I never really used a B chord before. You're a great teacher. :-)

    Thank you for a great lesson! Your encouragement is well done. I’m a 65 y.o. beginner & was able to play it somewhat, but in isolation. 😎

    Thank you I found that very helpful. I'm learning my notes and when I came to the theory of B i thought it was a mistake as my finger didn't want to bend like that. Now I have seen that it is possible lol. Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Rajat,
      There's a lot of online lessons available nowadays but to really have a tutor is a different story. Why? I will tell you here www.tomasmichaud.com/
