    Double barring and only barring the d b and g strings with the ring finger isn't that hard, but it does take practice. If you don't have a low action on the high e it will be harder to avoid muting it though. Bar chords just take practice - it's like building any muscles - the more often you work out, and the more reps you do the quicker you get results. Go for the burn!

    When making this chord, how high should the thumb be placed on the neck? In the middle of the neck, a little lower, or much lower?

    Any advice on squeezing 3 fat fingers behind the 4th fret? I have some faith that I will eventually manage the stretch, but I’m worried about the squeeze. I guess a longer scale guitar could help some but I like my guitar. Thanks.

    Thank you! 😀 - you got me past 6 months of frustration and nearly giving up because I could NOT bar and get that damn F chord. After watching your vid I played it for the first time. Now I’ve got B to ring out too... You’re the best teacher I’ve watched in my exploring.
    By the way, I’m nearly 50, pretty disabled and normally play the piano or cello, lol (when I can). Guitar I’ve always loved, but never been able to get my head around. Now I feel like I finally am :)
    Could you please do a video explaining what the hell chords like ‘B sus’ and all the other weird things actually mean?! 😂 You explain things so well, and I’d like to learn them right rather than just guess after reading it!

    Never been able to play the B properly. I kinda bar with my third finger, and don't play the E string. I may hit it everynow and again, but it isn't noticeable. I may work on improving it soon. I can't bend my finger back like some can. I find it difficult to lay 3 fingers down, but I may try that some day.

    It is a full 2 inch nut width and a wonderful sounding instrument

    • @TomStrahle
      @TomStrahle  6 лет назад +1

      That's crazy! Did they use different glue for the lower pick guard? It is a great sounding instrument regardless.

    • @miamistomp
      @miamistomp 6 лет назад +1

      Thats interesting. Mine is also 1965 issue.
      I think maybe the bottom guard took more of a beating when strummed over the years. The material is also thinner than a regular guard
      I went looking for an F25 after I saw a video of this guy a while back and liked the sound-the wide fretboard was also appealing

      You are right. I missed that. I just took the 3rd string note down to the 1st fret for a second. So x02200 to x02100 then back to x02200. It would basically be an E over A.

  • @susansykes9110

    Seems like a B chord would be closer in proximity to the common B7 chord. Why isn't it?

    • @TomStrahle
      @TomStrahle  4 года назад

      B7 has an A in it which in not in the key of B or F#, the two keys where the B chord naturally occurs. The only key that B7 would work in is if the song were in E.

    Goddamn, first lessons regarding 133211 and x24442 should be "DON'T EVEN TRY".
    I was trying to learn to play these freaking chords for months - pain, frustration, shame and all this stuff.
    Only years past I got to know nut action is WAY too high, around 1mm between 6th string and the fret.
    And after all we don't even HAVE to use these fingerings. x3321x,1332xx and x2444x work just fine.
    What a waste of time and energy, dang.

    • @TomStrahle
      @TomStrahle  6 лет назад

      Totally get that. And you may be right. For some people one or two more notes in the chord may not be worth the extra work. Heck, I usually capo to avoid barre chords on acoustic.

      Tom is obviously a religious man who is trying to help others with the guitar. He mentioned he plays in churches and usually ends his video with a blessing. Why in the world would you insult him and others with the very first word of your comment? Show some respect.

    This reminds of a story that McCartney told of him and Lennon having to the bus to the other side of Liverpool to see someone who knew how to make a B7 chord, which was the 1 chord that they were missing. The saw it, and then went back home content that they now knew the chord to complete their collection.

    • @TomStrahle
