This video provides very important information that I have not found in any other video. Thank you so much for all the advices.
Thank you for the B7 option!
Double barring and only barring the d b and g strings with the ring finger isn't that hard, but it does take practice. If you don't have a low action on the high e it will be harder to avoid muting it though. Bar chords just take practice - it's like building any muscles - the more often you work out, and the more reps you do the quicker you get results. Go for the burn!
Thanks man hope you will do many more lessons in acoustic / beautiful melodic fingerstyle. Good teacher u are!
Nice tutorial, Tom! Newbie guitarist here! Been working on the b chord for weeks now. With videos like yours and with practice I'll eventually get it. Also thanks for that 'cheat B' tip. Keep it up!
Thank you Tom 🥰🥰
This was so helpful:)
Really enjoyed that, Tom, thanks, great stuff !
Thanks Chris!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
You are very welcome!
thanks for taking the time to help.
Glad to help!
When making this chord, how high should the thumb be placed on the neck? In the middle of the neck, a little lower, or much lower?
Any advice on squeezing 3 fat fingers behind the 4th fret? I have some faith that I will eventually manage the stretch, but I’m worried about the squeeze. I guess a longer scale guitar could help some but I like my guitar. Thanks.
Or a wider neck guitar.
Your pickguard is sick
Haha. It definitely is not feeling well.
Another guitarist named Todd day wait has one like that .Where did you get it by chance?
It’s supposed to have two pickguards. One above and one below. The lower one fell off before I acquired the instrument.
Great title!!
Haha, I do what I can.
*Good one 🌟*
Thanks 🔥
Instantly subscribed! ))
Thanks Vlad! OK to call you Vlad?
Yeah, of course it is a short for Vladislav.
Thank you! 😀 - you got me past 6 months of frustration and nearly giving up because I could NOT bar and get that damn F chord. After watching your vid I played it for the first time. Now I’ve got B to ring out too... You’re the best teacher I’ve watched in my exploring.
By the way, I’m nearly 50, pretty disabled and normally play the piano or cello, lol (when I can). Guitar I’ve always loved, but never been able to get my head around. Now I feel like I finally am :)
Could you please do a video explaining what the hell chords like ‘B sus’ and all the other weird things actually mean?! 😂 You explain things so well, and I’d like to learn them right rather than just guess after reading it!
I’m so glad to read this. I’m going to start a new series that I hope help you understand some of those things.
Tom Strahle Fantastic 👍 thank you! I’m F and B’ing every day now and getting quicker...feels like a big change. Opens up so many more songs!
Never been able to play the B properly. I kinda bar with my third finger, and don't play the E string. I may hit it everynow and again, but it isn't noticeable. I may work on improving it soon. I can't bend my finger back like some can. I find it difficult to lay 3 fingers down, but I may try that some day.
My finger looks like I put it on a grill from this bloody chord.
Same
I have the same Gibson and bottom guard is also missing
It is a full 2 inch nut width and a wonderful sounding instrument
That's crazy! Did they use different glue for the lower pick guard? It is a great sounding instrument regardless.
Thats interesting. Mine is also 1965 issue.
I think maybe the bottom guard took more of a beating when strummed over the years. The material is also thinner than a regular guard
I went looking for an F25 after I saw a video of this guy a while back and liked the sound-the wide fretboard was also appealing
ruclips.net/video/SZima3vtQCg/видео.html
B\F# is the best one, nobody ever uses it and if you can master the technique it will sound 100% acoustic and fresh
I worked out how to play B chord for a twelve bar , bar second fret , hold B on G string fourth fret , then on and off on the low E string fourth fret , , EG#E G# EG # so on
It’s ok we don’t flip off in that way in England 🏴 we use 2 fingers
😂
I couldn't get my fingers in that position so I did just like that student you mention. So when I played in front of my friend they said what's that? or that didn't hurt? lol
Go to ultimate guitars and play your love by the outfield… Y’all know that song “ Josie’s on a vacation far away…..”
I think Son of a Bb might be funnier. Great video as always.
Your right. Dammit.
Walter Egan's "Magnet and Steel" A B A B A B A B.....
What are the chords in that progression with b sus?
E5 - x79900, C#m7 - x46600, Bsus - x24400, A2 - x02200
Tom can you please tell me which notes you play on the A sus @ 7:18
That was an A2 - x02200 So the whole descending progression was...
E5 - x79900, C#m7 - x46600, Bsus - x24400 and A2 - x02200
Tom Strahle Hi Tom, yes the asus2 i know, but you do like a small melodic on the asus2 and I love it! Can u please tell me how to do it? Thanks
Hope you can tell me 😁😁😁
You are right. I missed that. I just took the 3rd string note down to the 1st fret for a second. So x02200 to x02100 then back to x02200. It would basically be an E over A.
Tom Strahle thanks!!!
I did everything and I can’t make any bar chord ring out unless I put another finger on top and it’s almost impossible for my hand to play this chord
Please don't say can't because, then you won't.
Cover the 3 strings with your ring like a power chord its east
Every guitar coach. "Do this to sound like this"...... and then plays ten seconds of music that I can't keep up with.
I agree with you. I’m in the planning stages of creating a very basic lesson series. Stay tuned.
Tom Strahle I subscribed and I’m waiting for that my man, if no one say this to you yet thx a lot, your videos saved me thousands of dollars of lesson and I am truly grateful for it
Hate the B! It has giving me fits over the years. But yes B7 no problem.
Exactly.
Seems like a B chord would be closer in proximity to the common B7 chord. Why isn't it?
B7 has an A in it which in not in the key of B or F#, the two keys where the B chord naturally occurs. The only key that B7 would work in is if the song were in E.
If u could slow it down some would be great .I like your presentation.
go to the gear (bottom right) of the screen and slow it down , there are options for this.
Goddamn, first lessons regarding 133211 and x24442 should be "DON'T EVEN TRY".
I was trying to learn to play these freaking chords for months - pain, frustration, shame and all this stuff.
Only years past I got to know nut action is WAY too high, around 1mm between 6th string and the fret.
And after all we don't even HAVE to use these fingerings. x3321x,1332xx and x2444x work just fine.
What a waste of time and energy, dang.
Totally get that. And you may be right. For some people one or two more notes in the chord may not be worth the extra work. Heck, I usually capo to avoid barre chords on acoustic.
Tom is obviously a religious man who is trying to help others with the guitar. He mentioned he plays in churches and usually ends his video with a blessing. Why in the world would you insult him and others with the very first word of your comment? Show some respect.
This reminds of a story that McCartney told of him and Lennon having to the bus to the other side of Liverpool to see someone who knew how to make a B7 chord, which was the 1 chord that they were missing. The saw it, and then went back home content that they now knew the chord to complete their collection.
I totally remember that story. So amazing. The chord that saved the music world.
yes, sometimes we get saved easily. Imagine if Jimi Hendrix had decided to play the accordian instead.
You know what's crazy, I occasionally teach Cruz Beckham guitar lessons and he's friend with Paul McCartney's grandson. He goes over to the house and Paul is just sitting at the piano playing and singing. haha. Can you imagine.
That's nice to see these stars are ordinary human beings.
I find the Bm barr chord is the hardest.
Not too different. Check out this video - the F is a little more like the shape of the Bm - ruclips.net/video/sgDog34rejw/видео.html
I too find the bm chord pretty hard at least the hardest to change to from any other chord. Like I can play it just can’t transition to it fast
I find F barre chord harder to learn. I did b major barre chord on first try. I actually find B major barre chord easy.
I did a video about that one too.
Man I wish
“Has a different flavor” mmm wonder what that tastes like 😂
Very tasty. Some chords are just too darn bland.
5:20 I do B like that, shall I stop playing and see an orthopedist. Im 42 is it too late?
It is not.
If I can't give people the finger I can't play😂😅😉
Haha.
The B chord is always sus
Hahaha, love this.
Every time I do it it doesn’t sound right
Nooo, Not the BEEEES.
Learn to fly...
Worst chord I have tried yet f is a gift compared to this ,bitch is not a strong enough word for this 😢
Haha. Right.
I find F barre chord harder. I did Barre major b chord on my first try.
F chord is the worst!!
Half the length of video and about a quarter of the talking would help
Sorry you didn't like it. Good thing there are so many great teachers on RUclips.
