Cartoon Cartoon Fridays was my Disney Afternoon growing up. Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Ed, Edd n Eddy was such a perfect line up. Though I could care less If I missed an episode of Cow and Chicken, Mike Lu and Og or Robot Jones
47Cartoonguy HA!! Eggs on you! I grew up with the Disney Afternoon, Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, and Nickelodeon's shows like Hey Arnold, Rugrats, CatDog, Jimmy Neutron, and Fairy Oddparents, In your face!!! Now I feel sad. I'll just go cry myself into a corner lamenting the loss of my childhood :(
BloodyMastersword I don't know if its considered cannon, but I remember a disney comic arc about an evil jeweled necklace that possessed whoever wore it. It spanned across rescue rangers, darkwing duck, ducktails, and goof troop just from what I remember. So at the very least I believe those shows all take place in the same universe.
Why doesn't anyone mention "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh"? The show is great with it's characters and the situations they are in, the voice acting espically the original voice of "Tigger" Paul Winchell. There is also plenty of episodes to make you feel good like "Donkey for a Day" or "How Much is The Rabbit in the Window".
+animagusurreal He's right. That was part of One Saturday Morning, which aired along other shows like Recess, Pepper Ann, Fillmore, The Weekenders, Hercules/101 Dalmations The series.
It may have also aired as part of One Saturday Morning, but that block didn't premiere until 1997. The original run of "New Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh" began in 1988.
I really loved seeing you guys talk about the cartoon eras you've lived through since they were the same I lived through. I really hate people not appreciating the amazing animation of today so its wonderful to hear people in my age group getting it.

As a guy who grew up in China until 11, gotta say those shows were equally nostalgic, they literally were a window for Chinese kids in the 90s to peek into American culture.
I actually never watched the Disney Afternoon since I was too young to ever see it (I was born in 94), but the first half of those shows (Gummi Bears, Tale Spin, Ducktails etc) were always on Toon Disney. I did think these were new shows and something I had never seen before until I was about 7 and was taught that at the beginning of books and end of TV shows there are copyright years of when it came out and was shocked to see the year on them.

I froze the video at 0:27 just as Rob spreads his arms out. It's great seeing both of you so happy. You must have really enjoyed putting together the Disney Afternoon retrospective.
Tail Spin I never cared for, because I didn't like any of the characters. But Darkwing Duck... man... the most amazing series from Disney. Everything is great about it.
Scott Sandler Indeed, so mostly the other 3 is what he should look at. (It feels like he plans on looking at Ace Ventura (Pet Detective, Alllrighty then.)
On TaleSpin taking place in the 1930s, the Wikipedia article puts it well: "The time frame of the series is never specifically addressed, but appears to be in the mid-to-late 1930s. The helicopter, television and jet engine are experimental devices, and most architecture is reminiscent of the Art Deco style of that period. In one episode, Baloo comments that 'The Great War ended 20 years ago,'[15] suggesting that the series specifically takes place in 1938. Radio is the primary mass medium, and one episode even briefly alludes to the characters having never heard of television.[16]"
Tetsu Deinonychus Brand new episodes. But it looks like only Russi Taylor will be reprising as Huey Dewey and Louie. Before you get angry, it's better to recast Scrooge now than have Alan Young (96) die from old age while the show is being produced. June Foray (Magica De Spell) will be 100 by the time the show premieres
Scott Sandler Alan Young will always be Scrooge to me. That said, he recently got to reprise his role in the Ducktales Remastered game, so he was able to bring Scrooge to life recently. Man, whoever's getting the role of Scrooge in the new show will have some tall shoes to fill.
The Disney Afternoon made everyday feel like a Saturday morning. I remember running home from school to watch my favorite shows. Ducktales,Rescue Rangers,Darkwing Duck and Talespin will always be great shows.
I definitely remember seeing DuckTales and Chip & Dale on Toon Disney back in the 2000's But a vast majority of my childhood TV time was on Cartoon Network during the CN City era, that time was magnificent and I don't remember any other TV station for kids doing anything similar that what Cartoon Network did during that time
I could see Gummi Bears, Gargoyles, and the Fluppy Dogs TV special all taking place in the same universe. (I don't think that was the intention, but hear me out...) Fluppy Dogs villain Wagstaff could be a descendant of Igthorn, (they have the same voice). Wagstaff is a wealthy man who collects mythical creatures - perhaps he was who inspired Xanatos to acquire the Gargoyles? :)
The third Aladdin movie is actually pretty good. I think if they had given it more budget and better animation it would've been one of the more loved Disney sequels.
30:52 - Oh Christ, that reminds me of where I was when 9/11 happened. I was just in my room watching Disney's Tarzan the Animated Series on a local channel in the morning.
Gargoyles. Best Disney television show ever, and don't get me wrong, I LOVED Kim possible and such. Gargoyles had EVERYTHING. Action, romance, drama, fantasy, modern. If they never make a live action movie of it, I will never forgive Disney.
My personal rating of each of the major Disney animated series from 1985 to 1997: Gummi Bears - 8/10 DuckTales - 9/10 The New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh - 8/10 Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers - 8/10 TaleSpin - 8/10 Darkwing Duck - 9.5/10 Goof Troop - 7/10 Bonkers - 5/10 Aladdin - 6/10 Gargoyles - 9.5/10 Shnookums and Meat - 4/10 Timon and Pumbaa - 7/10 Quack Pack - 6/10 Mighty Ducks - 4/10 Disney's Doug - 3/10 Jungle Cubs - 5/10 101 Dalmatians: The Series - 1/10
So, it seems like the best, in your opinion, is a *very* close tie between "Darkwing Duck" and "Gargoyles", since they both got a 9.5/10, which is a pretty high and good rating 👍😊
The third Aladdin film is actually pretty good. Yeah Genie gets a bit annoying but it focuses on Aladdins (SPOILERS) relationship with his estranged father, the songs are great and the animation is much more decent than the second one. Not as good as the first but still quite good as far as direct to video Disney sequels go.
+theAngryscotman I find it the best of the Disney sequels; it's actually good. Robin Williams is hilarious, and we've got a great story about Aladdin and his father. It's a major step up from the Return of Jafar and a good finale to a good TV series.
+theAngryscotman I would argue that Aladdin and the King of Thieves is easily the best DTV Disney sequel, as well as the second best Disney sequel in general right behind The Rescuers Down Under. And that's not just because they had Robin Williams returning as the Genie. The animation almost gives you the impression that it was meant to be released in theaters and the writing and story made you feel like the producers actually gave a shit about what they were making, unlike most Disney sequels. If you love the original Aladdin, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It's a tremendous improvement over the lackluster Return of Jafar and okay-ish animated series.
The Goofy Movie is much better than Goof Troop ever was. Ditch the suburbs for a road trip movie with some really solid father/son dynamic. Plus some ridiculously catchy songs...
I loved Bonkers!! I typically like the stuff Doug and Rob were just a little too old to be into. Just when they were growing out of something or too old for something new coming along I was just getting into it. Either way I share a LOT of their nostolgia because we are still close enough in age remember the same stuff.
I would watch some of the "Disney Afternoon" shows once in a while, but I was definitely more of a PBS kid growing up. "Reading Rainbow", "Arthur", "The Magic School Bus", "Kratts' Creatures", "Bill Nye the Science Guy", those were my shows. But I do remember enjoying "Tailspin", "Darkwing Duck", and "Rescue Rangers".
I really don't think it matters what age you are. If your adult and still enjoy animation I don't see anything wrong with that. Hell, I'm 2 1 and I've just gotten really into Anime recently because of the Internet. Most Anime shows that were on when I was a kid I never thought looked all that impressive (i.e Pokemon, Yui-Gi Oh). Though I really did like Digemon as a kid.
I warn you, that you will be judged by a hell of a lot of people for this. Be prepared for that. I've been trying to explain my DVD Box Sets of The Real Ghostbusters and Tron: Uprising since about 2015.
I enjoyed Goof Troop because it was different and was more like a sitcom. It had good fun characters and was enjoyable to watch cause it wasn't anything grand.
The Disney afternoon review is one of my favorite reviews so this was a nice surprise in my sub box. Patiently waiting on the Steven Universe Vlogs lol
Disney Afternoon - Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, Chip N Dale, Gargoyles Fox Kids- Spider Man, Power Ranger, Digimon WB 20 - Animaniacs Batman/Superman, Pokemon, static shock other mentionables - Transformers, TMNT, Looney Tunes THAT was my childhood!!!! And it was glorious!!!
BloodyMastersword Gummi Bears was in its final season when Disney Afternoon debuted in 1990. It had run on Saturday morning TV throughout the mid/latter 1980s. My favorite is Tale Spin. It's aged with grace after 25 years.
I'd love for you guys to do a real thoughts on Demo Reel. Just some insight into the thought process behind it, how you thought it would have progressed, your reaction to how it failed, and your decision to bring back the nostalgia critic just sounds really interesting.
Pretty much agree with what you guys said here and in the review, which is probably my favorite review you've done so far. It really took me back to my days as a kid, growing up, looking forward to getting out of school, when summer seemed like it never ended, and of course the days before all of this adult crap we have to deal with. There was a timelessness of Gargoyles, Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, and Tale Spin, you could put any of those shows on tv now and they would fit right in.
Jamel Watson It was the best review of Season 7. The joy about being born in the 80s is that its peak 1990-1992 was the period when most kids our age were in elementary or kindergarten.
Holy Shit balls...I remember when they interrupted DuckTales to announce the invasion of Iraq. Weird memory. I can remember that period of my life, but when I walk into the kitchen...poof...have no idea why I'm there :)
This is yet another reason why TV shows need theme songs to come back. Seriously. Also, I have the Rescue Rangers and Ducktales extended themes on my MP3 Player.
OMG I love this video! Great talk! I love that you guys started talking about how ya'll would "Chip" Gadget because I was recently was talking to my friends about how there are anthropomorphic characters who are attractive and we brought up Gadget. Lol XD right on time.
I seem to recall a satirical news segment with some guy named Steve Mackerel (sp?) that ran during the very end of the whole block. Was that part of the Disney Afternoon, or was that something else? I could have sworn it was part of it. I vaguely recall news segments being about Disney characters, but I could be wrong. Edit: also, Sexy Gadget...yea.
interestingly goofy was always the most emotional character for me or at least goofy with max not so much earlier goofy but there is something about sad goofy that always made me emotional. I don't know that might just be me. BTW what comes to mind is the goofy and max Christmas movie that I can't remember the name of.
I liked this, partly because of the Ducktales, (Woo-ooh), and Darkwing Duck mentionings but also that part at the end. "Gadget. Yea or nay?" ... "I wouldn't Chip that but I would Dale that." and that whole section. XD
dude, you need to do to the early 90's PBS kids afternoon lineup what you did with Disney Afternoon. why? well because not everyone had the Disney channel in the early 90's I live in Canada and we didn't get Family Channel til 1997 after Disney Afternoon wrapped. and now this fall Disney Channel is finally coming to Canada (it's about 15 years too late) my point is that the PBS kids after school lineup in the 90's kind of peaked around 98 (deep down I want to see you destroy Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego, because well that's what I would have done if I did something like that.)
wha?!!?!?!? I didn't know that, because like I said in my comment, I live in Canada I don't think any channel in Canada got it (well some of the Disney shows did show up on MTN Kids Club lineup, and I didn't get Family channel til 1997 and they still showed some Disney Stuff then. Besides Doug didn't even mention that when he reviewed it last year
I think they should take a look at the Disney DTV sequels. They have a lot of potential either for praise or bashing, and rightfully so. They're what epitomized and cemented Disney being a milking sequel machine, IMO. A statement which I feel is unfair at times because those DTV sequels were technically made by a different division of the company and not their head animation studio.
Only problem is that if he did them for disneycember it would just be, "that sucked", "that was ok" or "not as bad as I thought it would be but still not great"
I love Mighty Ducks! It's definitely not a deep show, but it was fun to watch because it was an anthropomorphic superhero show. Disney may have been on too much of duck kick, but hey, animal superheroes have always been fun. Although, one crazy thing I've realized is that one of the writers, David Wise, recycled two scripts from Transformers for two episodes of 1987's Tmnt and MIghty Ducks. What the heck.
There's a comic book that sets Darkwing Duck, Ducktales, Talespin and Rescue Rangers in the same universe. Although to be honest such a thing is far-fecthed in the case of RR as Rob points out, there are humans in that universe.
I feel it is fair to call Gadget hot. She was one of the first characters to break the mold of women. I think most boys fell in love with her personality less than the fact she was a mouse, but there were the boys that thought the mouse part was hot.
I am a little surprised nobody from the American branch of Disney/SquareEnix has gone to Nomura and asked him to put Disney Afternoon series in Kingdom Hearts. They lend themselves to adventure games very well.
Funny as it is, Tailspin, Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop, Ducktales and Darkwing Duck are all in the same universe. this was confirmed in the amazing "Legend of the Chaos God" five parter from the Disney Adventures magazine, where all five casts had to deal with an anceint god of chaos names Solego. It was an awesome little story, and it even took in place the fact that Tailspin takes place between the two World Wars while the other shows are roughly present day for the time these shows were on.
You know what´s funny Doug? I did kinda enjoy the Goof Troop... but honestly... I liked much more THE GOOFY MOVIE where it suprisingly gave us the father and son relationship and created real drama. Maybe the show could have been more like that.
Nah, it's set in the past. The show featured no computers, rarely any television sets, and the radio was the characters' primary means of communication. The creators were a little lenient with Kit's portrayal in order to appeal to young kids at the time, hence the backwards cap and fascination with extreme sports, (i.e. cloud surfing), which were big fads at the time the show was airing.
Seeing as you did a full review on the Disney cartoon block, I'm kind of wanting to see one on some of the other cartoons in different eras. I'd like to see things like discussing early 3D animated shows like ReBoot or Cubix, or shows on WB like Jackie Chan Adventures. Compare early Nick shows like Rocko's Modern Life with early Cartoon Network like Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack.
About the Universe, well... Donald Duck characters, Goofy and Chip & Dale all existed in the Mickey Mouse series, so we can assume they are in the same universe, however these cartoons showed different incarnations of the characters (for example Chip & Dale never appear dressed in their Rescue Ranger clothes in Mickey or Donald cartoons, and Monterey Jack and Gadget never appeared), so these series likely take place in a different universe than the classic cartoons, therefore we can't assume that they also take place in the same universe as one another. To add to the confusion, a slightly grown up Max, classic Chip n Dale and "Jungle Book" Baloo appeared together in the House of Mouse series. How is it even possible? (there also are Heuey, Due & Louie looking like their Quack Pack incarnations, but they have their attires switched for some reason) Well, since House of Mouse frequently mentions Disney works as fictional, the most fair assumption is that it takes place in an "overuniverse" where Disney characters are actors that played their respective roles in their movies and cartoons, sometimes based on their real lives (for example in this universe Chip and Dale are two mischievous chipmunks that also happen to be hired by Disney to star in classic Disney shorts that realisticly represent them, as well as, with new stage costumes, in their own TV series that's pure fiction). Such overuniverse is pretty common in fiction, we've seen it in Looney Toons and The Simpsons as well, and is sometimes miscalled "the real world" for promotional reasons. This doesn't help though, since the question is do these fictional tv series take place in the same universe? Let's get to it: as you said Darkwing Duck and DuckTales are clearly connected; then in the Goof Troop movie there's a cameo by Mickey and Donald, but again this proves that *A* Donald exists in the Goof Troop, not that the whole Quack Pack happened. Sadly from what I can remember right now there are no other crossovers in the shows themselves, so we must switch media: many Disney afternoon cartoons were adapted into comics on the Disney Adventures magazine and there has been occasional cross-series cameos, including an entire 5-part story titled "The Legend of the Chaos God" that crossed-over TaleSpin, C&D Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop, DuckTales and Darkwing Duck. So there you go, if you accept the comics, these 5 all happen in the same universe. I believe there was also a reference to the Mighty Ducks in some comics, but it was like only on a poster, so it's arguable whether it promotes an actual team existing in the comic's universe or it just promotes the show, that would then be fictional within the comic itself. And... That should be about it. Depending on what you want to consider you can make your mind.
Thing is, I didn't get Disney Afternoon where I was. The closest thing I had was CITV, which was mostly Warner Brothers and Nickelodeon shows. But I did catch Timon and Pumba on Diggit on Saturday mornings. Anyone remember those?
Before Pokémon showed up, Toonami launched in March 1997, which was really America's gateway drug to anime. The block lasted 11 years on Cartoon Network before getting canceled for 4 years and Adult Swim picking it up
i do remember an episode of tail spins where an inventor was talking about inventing a TV and every one was like that won't catch on, then they walk away then, the episode ends with an effect like a TV turning off. so I'd say it was the 20s
Tiny Toons sucks if they came up with their own material and stopped trying to be copycats it would be better. Spongebob has lots of physical humor but they make their own unique gags.
I'm about 6 years younger than Doug but I grew up on a lot of the same shows (sometimes due to reruns) and then also the next generation as they came out. I can't remember very well but I don't remember a similar afternoon block that we had. We did have a pair of competing morning cartoon programs but they didn't do Disney or Warner Brothers. Ihink I watched all these shows "Disney Afternoons" on Saturday Disney. Cable never really took off here in Australia so this was talking free to air. We also had a few of our own shows and all the old British kids programming. I had a point but I'll have to come back and add that later...
Honestly, I think he should do a brief look at early 2000s toon disney. It would be very interesting to hear dougs take on some of my fav shows when I was growing up (recess, Fillmore, and even Kim possible)
That is true they didn't try to sell toys with disney afternoon unless you count the video games and the Darkwing duck toys but for the most part that is true.
Hey that's the same as I said in my comment.
47Cartoonguy This is a correct statement. Very correct.
47Cartoonguy I'd forgotten the block name until your comment, but I remember watching all these shows.

Darkwing Duck and DuckTales actually took place in the same Universe. There are crossover episodes between these two.

Nostalgia Critic should do a WTR of Loonatics Unleashed. Or a review. Either or is fine.
Super Shadic WTRs are reviews. Just not fullscale
Scott Sandler i suppose thats true, but i meant either a WTR or full scale review.
Super Shadic And maybe a WTR for the following shows or least 2 of them:
-The Mask
-Ace Ventura
-Freakazoid (PLEASE DO THAT)
-Beetlejuice

DuckTales is so timeless that it's being REVIVED TO AIR ON DISNEY XD IN 2017!

Aladdin 3 is so underrated more people need to see it
+theAngryscotman I find it the best of the Disney sequels; it's actually good. Robin Williams is hilarious, and we've got a great story about Aladdin and his father. It's a major step up from the Return of Jafar and a good finale to a good TV series.
Tareltonlives I thought so too.
I remember owning it. It was pretty good and the songs were quite nice. Better than the second one and one of the better Disney sequels.
+theAngryscotman
I would argue that Aladdin and the King of Thieves is easily the best DTV Disney sequel, as well as the second best Disney sequel in general right behind The Rescuers Down Under.
The ending is hilarious.
The Goofy Movie is much better than Goof Troop ever was. Ditch the suburbs for a road trip movie with some really solid father/son dynamic. Plus some ridiculously catchy songs...
My thoughts exactly. Growing up I probably saw the video cassette dozens of times of "A Goofy Movie" (1995). Right on!
are you dissing goof troop mister?
For me, my all time favourite disney afternoon show is Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers. Absolutely loved thst show.
I died at "Would you chip that?" Also I love 37:13 Rob's "I would" face.
I loved Bonkers!! I typically like the stuff Doug and Rob were just a little too old to be into. Just when they were growing out of something or too old for something new coming along I was just getting into it. Either way I share a LOT of their nostolgia because we are still close enough in age remember the same stuff.
Since you've done the Disney Afternoon, how about doing the Nicktoons you've reviewed (and all the other Nickelodeon Month subjects)?
Adam Kaunfer he did
I hope Doug and Rob never stop doing these lengthy, podcast-y videos of them just talking. I could seriously listen to them all day.
+TheGoldenAge thank you.
I warn you, that you will be judged by a hell of a lot of people for this. Be prepared for that.
I've been trying to explain my DVD Box Sets of The Real Ghostbusters and Tron: Uprising since about 2015.
Disney Afternoon is one of my favorite reviews.
Disney Afternoon - Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, Chip N Dale, Gargoyles
Fox Kids- Spider Man, Power Ranger, Digimon
WB 20 - Animaniacs Batman/Superman, Pokemon, static shock
other mentionables - Transformers, TMNT, Looney Tunes
THAT was my childhood!!!! And it was glorious!!!
I think Gummi Bears is the most timeless one of them. It's also one of the best.
BloodyMastersword Gummi Bears was in its final season when Disney Afternoon debuted in 1990. It had run on Saturday morning TV throughout the mid/latter 1980s.
My favorite is Tale Spin. It's aged with grace after 25 years.
Gummi beeeeeeeeaaaars!
The Disney Afternoon video was my favorite of 2014. The most an NC video has made me laugh in years. :)
Doug is such a child, he has never grown up, he is a real life peter pan.
I'd love for you guys to do a real thoughts on Demo Reel. Just some insight into the thought process behind it, how you thought it would have progressed, your reaction to how it failed, and your decision to bring back the nostalgia critic just sounds really interesting.
Oh God, now I want oatmeal pies!
I was born in 91, but I got to catch a lot of Ducktales, Gargoyles, and the other good shows on here. Sadly, I remember Quack Pack as well.
Jamel Watson That's fine. There's a member on the CA Forum named Movie Brat who's the same age as you.
Holy Shit balls...I remember when they interrupted DuckTales to announce the invasion of Iraq. Weird memory. I can remember that period of my life, but when I walk into the kitchen...poof...have no idea why I'm there :)
The librarian in the second Goofy movie was pretty awesome. Don't underestimate Goofy!
Edward Blake you’re either thinking of “Mickeys Once a Upon a Christmas” or “Mickeys Twice Upon a Christmas”.
I liked this, partly because of the Ducktales, (Woo-ooh), and Darkwing Duck mentionings but also that part at the end.
"Gadget. Yea or nay?" ... "I wouldn't Chip that but I would Dale that." and that whole section. XD
dude, you need to do to the early 90's PBS kids afternoon lineup what you did with Disney Afternoon. why? well because not everyone had the Disney channel in the early 90's I live in Canada and we didn't get Family Channel til 1997 after Disney Afternoon wrapped. and now this fall Disney Channel is finally coming to Canada (it's about 15 years too late) my point is that the PBS kids after school lineup in the 90's kind of peaked around 98 (deep down I want to see you destroy Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego, because well that's what I would have done if I did something like that.)
iheartryanstyles Disney Afternoon didn't come on Disney Channel (though many of the same shows did). It was syndicated to local channels.
wha?!!?!?!? I didn't know that, because like I said in my comment, I live in Canada I don't think any channel in Canada got it (well some of the Disney shows did show up on MTN Kids Club lineup, and I didn't get Family channel til 1997 and they still showed some Disney Stuff then. Besides Doug didn't even mention that when he reviewed it last year
iheartryanstyles Oh gosh, my childhood was 2000 PBS and beyond for Kids Shows.
EeveeParty97 too bad you missed out on the 90's it had the best programming ever.
iheartryanstyles Well family wanted me to watch more kid friendly programs. Wished I grew up with X-Men and these other amazing cartoons.
I think they should take a look at the Disney DTV sequels. They have a lot of potential either for praise or bashing, and rightfully so.
They're what epitomized and cemented Disney being a milking sequel machine, IMO. A statement which I feel is unfair at times because those DTV sequels were technically made by a different division of the company and not their head animation studio.
nepomusik I totally want him to do that for the next Disneycember.
nepomusik I thought he was going to do that last Disneycember. He's running out of options for DIsneycember. He has to do the sequels eventually.
FaceUnreality I hope so. Cinderella 3 is amazing. Cindy so determined one of the stepsisters is redeemed.
Only problem is that if he did them for disneycember it would just be, "that sucked", "that was ok" or "not as bad as I thought it would be but still not great"
Actually I read that Teenage Turtles started off as a one-shot parody comic. The creators had no idea it would become what it is now.
+Bane Knightfall Yep. TMNT was a parody of Frank Miller's ultra-gritty run on Daredevil.
Down to the point that the mutagen truck was supposed to be the one that hit Daredevil.
BTW Doug and Rob, Robot Chicken did a hilarious sketch about Gadget. It's a good one.
Ryan Kmetz ....Lol I know which sketch it is.
Wish they mentioned more of their real thoughts on Bonkers and Shnookums and Meat .
Good job on the backup vocals there, Rob.
Fox Kids. Fucking Digimon! That shit was da bomb!
Teddy Ruxpin: "I HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN YOUR REVIEW, CRITIC!!!"
Me: "Thank you, Ted."
I was amazed at the reference in Darkwing to Chip N Dale, as a kid
I'd like to hear their real thoughts on Sailor Moon, mostly for Rob's perspective on it since he's the anime fan.
Gadget was probably my first cartoon crush.
Peg Pete's way hotter though.
All American literature can be traced back to Mark Twain, all American animation can be traced back to DuckTales.
There's a comic book that sets Darkwing Duck, Ducktales, Talespin and Rescue Rangers in the same universe. Although to be honest such a thing is far-fecthed in the case of RR as Rob points out, there are humans in that universe.
For some reason, their conversation about Disney Afternoon has me thinking back to when I watched Miguzi.
I feel it is fair to call Gadget hot. She was one of the first characters to break the mold of women. I think most boys fell in love with her personality less than the fact she was a mouse, but there were the boys that thought the mouse part was hot.
They are the Gummi BEARS!
I am a little surprised nobody from the American branch of Disney/SquareEnix has gone to Nomura and asked him to put Disney Afternoon series in Kingdom Hearts. They lend themselves to adventure games very well.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on Attack on titan
The Mighty Ducks may not have been DuckTales or Tailspin good, but at least it wasn't Bonkers bad!
i love these dorks
Funny as it is, Tailspin, Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop, Ducktales and Darkwing Duck are all in the same universe. this was confirmed in the amazing "Legend of the Chaos God" five parter from the Disney Adventures magazine, where all five casts had to deal with an anceint god of chaos names Solego. It was an awesome little story, and it even took in place the fact that Tailspin takes place between the two World Wars while the other shows are roughly present day for the time these shows were on.
Do a review of the Phsycho remake from 98
You know what´s funny Doug? I did kinda enjoy the Goof Troop... but honestly... I liked much more THE GOOFY MOVIE where it suprisingly gave us the father and son relationship and created real drama. Maybe the show could have been more like that.
***** I watched it for the first season.
According to Disneycember, he actually likes the movie as well for those exact reasons.
I miss Toon Disney and Jetix QQ RIP W.I.T.C.H, Oban star racers, and my favorite YING YANG YO!
Wow i was just watching real thoughts and this video came up in my sub box :D
Would love to see a "Real Thoughts" on the new DuckTales. :)
I think Tailspin is set in modern times, since Kit wears his hat backwards and is into "cloudsurfing."
Canonically according to the Disney Wiki at least Talespin is in the Duck Universe's 40s.
No, he means that TS takes place in the same universe, but in that universe's 1940s.
I'm a bit disappointed that there wasn't much talk about Gargoyles. He covered it allot, so that's probably why there wasn't much focus on it.
Pow3rh0use He did a full Nostalgia Critic Episode on it and even in the Disney Afternoon episode he barely touched on it.
Am I the only here who actually remembers Disney's "The Wuzzles"?!?!
Xaviergray87 I do. It only ran one season on CBS back in 1985. It was Disney's answer to the Snorks.
Tornado1994 Yeah...I wish that the show does make a huge comeback in the near-future.
I loved that show, I believe its more .......enduring than care bears
I forgot about Quack Pack. Thanks for bring up that nightmare
The best parts of Talespin are Shere Khan
Thing is, I didn't get Disney Afternoon where I was. The closest thing I had was CITV, which was mostly Warner Brothers and Nickelodeon shows. But I did catch Timon and Pumba on Diggit on Saturday mornings. Anyone remember those?
Before Pokémon showed up, Toonami launched in March 1997, which was really America's gateway drug to anime. The block lasted 11 years on Cartoon Network before getting canceled for 4 years and Adult Swim picking it up
I actually remember toonami. digimon brings forth some vague memories.
i do remember an episode of tail spins where an inventor was talking about inventing a TV and every one was like that won't catch on, then they walk away then, the episode ends with an effect like a TV turning off. so I'd say it was the 20s
Disney afternoon is like part of my childhood
Rob looked so embarrassed at the beginning
Honestly, I think he should do a brief look at early 2000s toon disney. It would be very interesting to hear dougs take on some of my fav shows when I was growing up (recess, Fillmore, and even Kim possible)
That is true they didn't try to sell toys with disney afternoon unless you count the video games and the Darkwing duck toys but for the most part that is true.
Greg Matic Unless you count every goddamn show getting an NES game made by Capcom. XD
