13:55 So, what you're saying to filmmakers who use CGI these days if roughly this: "The problem with the scientific power that you're using here, it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you're selling it."
Literally just got back from Jurassic World, carefully veiled spoilers below! A: Overall, enjoyable for me. No one I talked to who saw it with me seemed disappointed. It's not the best movie ever, but it's a big step up from 2 and 3. B: CGI and props are not as good as the first movie. Funny enough, it felt like they move too fast and too fluid. It just doesn't have the weight it should. Even the obvious physical prop was so darn quick I couldn't buy it. Action scenes don't suffer though. It's not bad per say, but just not up to Jurassic Park. C: Holy smokes is there one scene where Doug's inner NC is gonna shout out with glee. I could hear him in my head singing out. D: Wow, the kids in this one are not horribly shoehorned in. I'm shocked. Though, some drama happens between them that's completely pointless and never comes up again. Uuuuh, editors? Ya there? Maybe a reaction to the actual drama would've padded better? Like that overly prolonged and gruesome death scene? Geeze, is this a Dino snuff film??? E: Michael Giacchino delivered majorly. Lots of scenes where I was ready to cringe at John Williams being reused for cheap, but was pleasantly surprised by original music more fitting to the scene. The soundtrack was perfect. F: "Hey guys, remember how good Jurassic Park was? Let's talk about how good Jurassic Park was now." (Funny enough, people in the theater seemed on board with that.) G: On a related note, the original stuff did do a great job drawing me in. It had enough new things to justify itself and wasn't just sucking up to the first movie. (What sequels?) H: *~product placement~* "Hey guys, corporation sponsorships are evil." *~product placement~* There were other things I noticed. Good dialog, bad dialog, but I think that covers the major points. Not a must see, but if you like Jurassic Park, hey it's good.
+TheMortonator Have you seen their review of it. Rob liked it overall. Doug has mixed feelings. Felt like the movie was mostly underwhelming and unnecessary but he loved the ending.
Two things you oughta know, Doug: 1. Don't worry, the director of Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow, has confirmed there will be dinosaur animatronics in the movie. 2. Apparently Chris Pratt's whole "raptor whisperer" thing is a reference to the original novel where Dr. Wu, suggests to John Hammond that they alter the dinosaurs DNA to, and I quote, "slow them down and domesticate them."
jonny boi 'just got done watching it and the director is a liar. There were maybe two instances in the film that used animatronics. Not going to spoil but if they used more animatronics than i noticed (and trust me I was looking out for them) than they looked and moved like cgi. It was disappointing.
I wouldn't mind either but they explicitly said they were going to use alot of animatronics so I feel lied to. They knew that people liked the mixture of the two effects in the original movie so to get hardcore fans to go they said they were going to "capture the magic" of the original.
Actually, the hunter in The Lost World had an introduction scene where he saves a woman from being raped, but it committed the crime of making him too likable for someone on the villains' side, so Spielberg tossed it and they were forced to throw in the exposition somewhere else.
Ryan Lohner Wasn't there also a scene with Peter Ludlow where we saw him speaking to the board of directors about their losses from the first film? I thought that did a much better job of explaining his case than the movie's introduction, which made him look like a generic bad guy in a suit.
Samaru onesixthree Yep. And one more: seeing Roland and Ajay capturing the baby T-Rex, during which Ajay accidentally breaks its leg. With that scene taken out, you get the impression they deliberately injured it so its cries would attract its parents, making Roland far less sympathetic. Spielberg really wasn't into anything beyond one-dimensional caricatures in this film.
Ryan Lohner Shame. I actually liked Roland and Ajay, despite Spielberg's attempts to make them unlikable, and I think developing them into interesting characters would have made Lost World a bit more bearable.
Ryan Lohner Why the fuck would they introduce rape into Jurassic Park? :/ Like, if it was directed by Roger Corman, and he just needed to fill the exploitation quota, sure, but... Jurassic Park?
Chris Pratt isn't a "raptor whisperer", he raised them and they see him as the Alpha of their pack. It's like when you have dogs, they see you as the leader if their wolf pack. And the motorcycle jungle scene looks fucking badass.
Keaton Smith I wouldn't say dogs as much I would say Tigers. There are them people like Kevin Richardson who raise these animals and are aware of how dangerous these animals can be because they don't train them like dogs to behave, they respect them on a mutual level without insulting them. So even IF Chris was playing a "Raptor Whisperer" it doesn't annihilate the possibility that a dangerous animal would attack you. Especially a fucking dinosaur as ruthless and badass like a Velociraptor.
Keaton Smith So they cloned raptor from the 80th ? because now we know that they had feathers... so this is the syfy idea of a dinosaur. Aka the dumb way to go so people thing DURP dino violence DURP!
Cpt. Bald They aren't pure velociraptors, either. They're closer to Deinonychus in build, but since they had go do some splicing with frogs in the original, they came out with pebbly skin, like frogs. If the Jurassic Park scientists cracked the ENTIRE Velociraptor genome, they'd better get a Nobel Prize or something.
Jarek Gunther the first one is for comedy this is them talking about their real thoughts about the stuff since the NC is scripted to be over dramatic. This is their thoughts about the movie while they were watching it the first time and or while writing the NC reviews, behind the scenes tid bits and tangents about other movies, its fun to hear them bicker on sibling rivalry as well. it's nice to just hear the brothers talk and have a real commentary.
To do uh Jeff Goldblum, GOLDBLUM impression. You need to uh add, ADD the emphasis on the uh wrong, WRONG word. So you two uh.....review, REVIEW um movies.
I like Lost World. I like that it's darker (I ignore that ADR line about how the kids at the start weren't killed, just scratched up). I like Jeff Goldblum. JP3 on the other hand: Tea Leoni? Yeesh.
Simon B. LET ROB HAVE HIS MOMENT IN THE SPOTLIGHT, HE'S NOT JUST GOING TO BE SANTA CHRIST AND WEAR RAPTOR MASKS FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE! HE WILL DESTROY DOUG AND TAKE HIS PLACE AS THE NOSTALGIA CRITIC'S BROTHER...(I know, the name isn't all that cool, but I'm working on it.)
+DAMIEN MILLS Yeah I feel bad for Rob sometimes, I don't think a lot of people realize he co-writes the NC reviews. A lot of the time when Doug says something dumb, he's able to make him see sense, the other issue I have is that sometimes he's a little too convinced he's right about things he doesn't really know much about.
As a kid, I knew not to trust companies thanks to the Alien Franchise. That's why I never had a problem with the T-Rex rampage scene at the end of Lost World. I always just assumed it was a weapons test. Plop a biological weapon into a densely populated area and pretend it was an accident. Hammond's nephew was clearly a money grubbing idiot and the board wanted to get rid of him like they got rid of Hammond. The rampage would really all fall on him. It's pretty obvious the T-Rex didn't kill that crew on the cargo ship. It couldn't have. The guy who was dumb enough to let the Rex out wasn't dumb, that's what he was told to do. It's all one big set up. Why would a company like that make Dinosaurs for a Zoo anyway? It was an accident while they were making some kinda weapon. Hammond just let imagination get the better of him. The Park was just a front for InGen's bioweapons division. Dr. Wu is clearly involved and so was D'Onofrio. It's all clear in Jurassic World. Granted I think there really isn't a master plan and they're exploiting the plot holes, but it does make sense.
Actually I think you're not far off in thinking that if we assume Biosyn, Ingen's rival company, starting to either infiltrate, merge, or buy shares regarding Ingen's board. They clearly want access to dinosaurs and it doesn't seem they want to build a park with them.
In the book, Hammond wanted to make a park because he thought it would be the best way to make money out of biotechnology, since he could charge customers whatever he wanted (something Gennaro says in the movie). He didn't want to make drugs because you couldn't charge too much for them and eventually you'll lose the patent.
Come on, CGI now is MUCH better than it was in the past. Sure you have a few gems like JP or Starship troopers in the 90's, but most of it was shit. What makes it "look" bad is over reliance of CGI. Say what you will about Prometheus, it had some great special effects because it utilized both practical effects AND CGI. Same could be said for JP.
I get annoyed when they say CGI in a movie is fake and there's nothing there. You shouldn't complain about the effects being fake unless it's done horribly (Son of the Mask). It 's like complaining about Who Framed Roger Rabbit because all the cartoon characters are all just drawings.
Crazy Horse 9000 Yea, its all about suspending disbelief. When I watch ET running around, I know its an animatronic, but I dont care. I let myself believe there is an actual Alien running around knocking shit down. What makes CGI or practical effects bad is just as subjective as anything else in film. I liked the CGI in Avatar and bought into that world. Others hated it and felt no emotional connection to Pandora because they knew all they were seeing were computer animations.
+Crazy Horse 9000 Its not necessarily the cgi but bad artstyle or very low detail or to "shiny" of cgi that makes it bad. Gollum from lord of the rings was amazing. Everything down to the lighting on his face was perfect.
Aww no word about Richard Attenborough's character, shame because he was what I really love about this movie. Why? Because it would have been so easy to make him a bad guy who doesn't care about how safe the park is as long as he makes a ton of money. But no he's a decent guy would just wants to give the world something truly amazing and by the end, even though he knows the idea of the park will not work, you really sympathise with him and feel bad that it didn't work out.
Buc Whovian I think they do mention that John Hammond (Attenborough's character) was essentially that kind of character in the book. Other than that, it is odd they don't mention more about Hammond.
Ikr he just wanted to do something amazing and share it with the world. That scene at the end with all of them sitting in the helicopter, he is just staring at his amber cane with a “where did I go wrong” look on his face combined with the soft piano Jurassic park theme playing, you can really feel his sorrow and disappointment. He just wanted to give something to the world and it completely back fired and many people suffered for it. Just saying all this is almost bringing me to tears it’s done so well.
Jurassic Park is one of the greatest movies I've seen and a true masterpiece. However The Lost World is my absolute favorite of the JP movies, kudos to the San Diego T-Rex rampage scene for being so awesome! JP3 was meh, even as a kid I wasn't too impressed with it. I'm so looking forward to seeing Jurassic World with my friends and family.
My great nostalgic movie... if I could see one film for the first time again it would be Fellowship of the Ring. One month before Fellowship of the Ring I saw what I think was my first live action fantasy film ever which was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. At that point I thought Harry Potter was great and they did well with it and I was so amazed that they managed to bring Hogwarts to life. But then THAT happened at Christmas. And it was The Lord of the Rings that made me truly realize what film could do and how much it could blow your mind. I always liked movies of course, but when Lord of the Rings hit I understood the beauty of filmmaking. It was my generation's Star Wars and I'd love to have that feeling again.
Sorry Doug, but you listed so many inaccuracies someone has to correct you. Terminator 2 - 1991 League of Their Own - 1992 The Fugitive - 1993 Lion King - 1994
Jurassic Park: AWESOME! This is my favorite movie of all time. The Lost World: Jurassic Park: I will admit that this movie has many flaws, but it's still pretty good in my opinion. Jurassic Park 3: I thought this one was alright, but it's definitely not as good as the first two films. Don't take this the wrong way though, I love this movie. Jurassic World: This is such an awesome movie! This one may not be as good as the first film, but it definitely takes the spot as the best Jurassic Park sequel. I love all of these movies!😊
Sorry, Jeff Goldblooms character arguing that nature got rid of Dinosaurs is pretty accurate. There is a reason they were wiped out even if the evolutionary part is bs. In the end he proved to be right because when trying to tame dinosaurs, they fail miserably. It's not like trying to tame the animals living in our time. Goldblooms character was right about that and I believe that in real life. I don't wanna live in a period where the T-Rex and the Raptors are alive. Fuck that!!!!
Yeah but Goldblums argument wasn't from a scientific standpoint. All he said was "Life finds a way." In an argument based on science, the other two arguments were way better.
I liked the discussion of JP's vfx. Let's be honest, the effects in JP are a thousand times more convincing than the cgi in the Jurassic World trailers.
Another reason 3's better than Lost World is its setup actually makes sense, unlike Lost World. In 3, they at least have a legit reason for going to the island. In Lost World they just wanted to document the dinosaurs to save InGen from bankruptcy, which was a really weak motive that didn't even make sense, especially for Dr. Malcom to go after the events of the first film. In 3, they go to find the missing son on the island. So 3 at least did improve on the setup from Lost World.
Now that I've seen Jurassic World, I honestly prefer it over Lost World and Jurassic Park 3. Still not as good as the first film - it takes *a lot* to have a sequel that's better than the first film, though it happens. Isn't that right, Wrath of Khan? ;)
tscream80 Ha! Well, the first Star Trek movie is a borefest. I've the seen the movie a total of 1 time, and I never need to watch it again. I'm not discounting Wrath of Khan. It's a great movie, but almost anything is better than the first one.
In 1993, my mother looked a *lot* like Ellie Sattler / Laura Dern. You could say that the character sort of imprinted on me, and the simple emotional aspect of the movie, that she and Sam were supposed to represent emotionally satisfying maternal and paternal figures for the kids, worked with me quite well.
I wait for these videos man. I don't always agree with everything they say but they often bring up good points about these movies and I just love film conversation.
There is only ONE scene with an animatronic in _Jurassic World_. One of my few complaints with the new film. Just saw the new film tonight. It was the best sequel this franchise has gotten. I got chills, nostalgia, and randomly clapped at one point. Takes a lot for that to happen for me. 4/5
Rhett Gedies Exactly. The first sequel was incredibly stupid. Like... why is the T-Rex in the city? Why did they put her in a ship going to the city? That's stupid. Not to mention that scene where the kid sees the T-Rex from his room.... The second sequel was.... eh. My few complains with Jurassic World is the forced romance and the movie felt short to me.
I don't mind being the differing opinion, I think Lost World is still the best JP sequel, with World close behind and 3 in a very distant 4th. I've always been a defender of Lost World and, although I see the flaws, I think (much like Die Hard 2) its an excellent action sequel.
I always enjoyed Jurassic Park 3, maybe because Sam Neill is so watchable; he keeps attention. I recommend In the Mouth of Madness if you enjoy Sam Neill.
My favorite scenes from Jurassic park: 1:Ooh and aw moment at the brachiosaurus. 2:Cartoon DNA talking about mosquitoes .3:Raptor hatching. 4:John Hammond saying " Welcome to Jurassic park ". 5: Raptors eating cow off screen. 6:T.rex swallowing goat. 7: Must go faster. 8: Gallimimus stampede. 9: Back in business. 10: Clever girl. 11 : Raptors in the kitchen. 12: T.rex fighting raptors. That's all i could get.
The original Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all time, it's pretty much the perfect mix of everything I want from a movie. Lost World is a considerable step down but I still like it judged on its own merits and Jeff Goldblum's performance is super fun to watch. JP3 just plain sucks. It has maybe one or two redeeming moments but for the most part it's a disaster.
My best summer was 2010 (I was 14 and between 8th and 9th grade). I worked at a drama camp for most of it and so many semi-nostalgic shows and movies came out then too.
When I was a kid, The Fly and Jurassic Park were two movies I had pretty much on repeat (I had to rewind VHS tapes back then, but you get the point). I've always loved Goldblum, he's excellent. As for the movie I saw most in theatres, it was undoubtedly The Phantom Menace, and likely always will be (You heard me). That was a great summer. I was like 15 and Star Wars was EVERYWHERE, and it was a little while before the hate bandwagon picked up steam (you may have convinced yourself otherwise, but think back hard).
I will try to explain why I find The Lost World to be a guilty pleasure, and a movie I actually enjoy, because I enjoy more than just the movie itself, but a lot of things that were associated with the film as well as my viewing of the film in theaters with my father: First of all, the first Jurassic Park is one of my most favorite movies of all time. I've seen it more times than I can count probably. Own the entire DVD Box set of the first 3 movies, the cool one with the doors to the park on the cover. BUT, I WAS TOO YOUNG TO HAVE SEEN THIS IN THEATER. Jurassic Park came out in 93 I think? I was 2 years old at the time. But by the time The Lost World had come around, I had probably seen it a dozen times already, maybe more. Had it on VHS even. SO, THE LOST WORLD was the FIRST JURASSIC PARK I saw in theaters, and I also saw it with my dad at the time, one of the first films I ever saw with my dad in theaters ever. I also read both the books, and didn't mind The Lost World book too much. On top of this, I played THE LOST WORLD PC GAME that came bundled with my old school Gateway computer in what, 99 or something? AS WELL I HAD THE BOARD GAME THAT I WOULD PLAY WITH MY FAMILY A LOT. It was a decent board game, and it was really neat because you would have paper "houses" that you had setup, you would move your characters/dinosaurs on top of roofs, behind stuff, etc to eat people, escape, etc. We played this board game QUITE A BIT WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. If anyone else here had the board game, you understand what I'm talking about.: it was quite a "spectacle" of a board game Lot going on there, and it was fun to play. SO having played the game so much (a kinda standard type of "RTS lite"? I'll call it. Easy game in retrospect, but I had tons of fun as a kid playing a DECENT JURASSIC PARK GAME compared to all the other ones that existed, alongside of it being one of the first "blockbusters" I saw with my father when I was young, make it a movie that has a place in my heart. NOT A GOOD MOVIE, thats for sure., but when you combine all 3 of these elements: playing HOURS UPON HOURS of the game as a young kid,, being one of the first blockbusters I saw in theaters ever, WITH MY FATHER nonetheless (hes not a big theater guy at all, I think this might be one of the only movies I've seen with him in theaters, ever, 26 years into my life), to it being a board game I played a TON with my family, ON TOP OF IT being a sequel TO ONE OF MY MOST FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME, makes The Lost World have a special place in my heard. Both as a guilty pleasure as well as a movie I somewhat enjoyed watching because I saw it with my father. Sorry this is a long post, but considering the big four reasons for my enjoyment of The Lost World, I felt I had to delve into it a bit. Sequel to one of my most favorite movies of all time+one of the first blockbusters I ever saw in theaters WITH MY DAD nonetheless, combined with both the PC game as well as the board game, makes it one of my guilty pleasure movies that I will always enjoy, albeit with the gained knowledge that it is a bad film after studying film for a few years at school.
I think Jurassic World is going to be good. From what I read, Chris Pratt isn't supposed to be the "raptor whisperer". He made the raptors think he's the alpha of the pack. And the fact that they made a super dinosaur is new, inventive, and could lead to some awesome action scenes. I'm super excited to see how this unfolds.
Summer of 2014….. started my first RUclips channel. I discovered my love for monster flicks(Godzilla,) superhero movies(guardians of the galaxy,) and rock and roll musical.
One of the things I also liked about 3 was they made the velociraptors smart again. In the first one, they built up the raptors to be fiercely intelligent. That intelligence was not there in Lost World; they were pretty much reduced to just mindless monsters. But in 3, they got their intelligence (and dare I say their dignity back). I mean, you have this buildup where Alan talks about new evidence that raptors could communicate and vocalize. And then it shows them doing it, and then they set a trap.
I liked JP2 when I saw it in Theatre's because I was in grade 2, 3 or 4 and one of my parents took me straight to it after school, which never happened. Nostalgia is the only reason anyone probably likes it. I watched it on VHS when sick at home a lot, but since getting older I haven't seen it. I saw JP 3 when I was a bit older, maybe thought it was entertaining when I saw it, but didn't particularly like it and remembered thinking it was worse than JP2.
I think Duel is a very overlooked Spielberg movie. Even though it's an old 70s TV movie and it's very silly, it's still a interesting plot for a movie.
Experiencing JP--especially the first one--with was something truly special! I remember the time my uncle and great aunt took my brother and me to watch it. We sat between the adults in the theater, and at the moment when the car is being chased, my little brother got a jump-scare so bad, he leaped onto his chair. I pulled him back down into his seat, and we were hugging so tightly for comfort. AND the cherry atop this Ice-Cream Cone of Terror--we saw the fear in each others eyes when we realized both of our adults were fast asleep!!! OMG the memories! JP 1 was fun, JP 1 was traumatizing. LOL
The reason for the second island is because the second book is a sequel to the first movie, but still tried to have continuity from the first. In the first book, the island is nuked or something like that, and the main two characters were supposed to die. However, they survived in the movie and because everyone loved Jeff Goldbloom, the author decided that he would keep them alive, but move it to a second island to keep the continuity of the first island being blown up. Then the second movie was based off of the second book, so they moved to a new island without the explanation of the original ending of the book. Basically, they didn't need to move it to a new island. PSI actually liked the mobile phone horror 'mechanic' from the 3rd movie. That was it.
I had quite a phase of Michael Crichton books (and the movies based thereon) back in my tweens. I kind of agree that his stories are more great ideas and the characters are mostly cut-outs. That may be why I eventually grew out of them. In regards to one of the points that neither sequel advances the story at all, I will contend that TLW (the movie) does add a little bit more than JP3, in that it's the first time the public becomes aware of the dinosaurs. The story has a bigger scope and the stakes are higher - more lives are on the line than in any of the other movies. I also never minded that the whole movie was "dark". It was more of an exploration/survival story and most of the action took place at night, which if you think about it is a pretty scary time to be running from raptors. To shoot that scene in the day time would just be repeating what we already saw. Also, "no fences this time" was a set-up they hadn't done yet, so we did finally get to see how the dinosaurs would behave in the wild. It's possible that I wasn't bothered by the problems of TLW as a kid because I was caught up in all the JP and dinosaur hype and I was still quite young. There was a lot of marketing too, as I recall - who didn't want all the dinosaur toys back then? And the most important thing for a kid at least was getting to see new dinosaurs and new situations for them. I realize it doesn't hold up as well now but I'll take it over JP3 in which has almost nothing going for it.
I love hearing your insights but could you all please take turns talking. Maybe learn to find an opening and not struggle to talk over eachother constantly.
Right? These guys are pretty entertaining on their own but when they get together, and I assume it's due to the competitive nature of two brothers, they just must talk over one another. It gives me a headache and you lose the point of the vid because it's just constant noise. I doubt they realise they are doing it because it's just the way they have always talked. But seriously it's like two different conversations going on at once. Be respectful to the other person when they are talking. Rob's Dr. Grant impression was really funny.
ASMRWhisperLight. Exactly I just want a chance to hear what they both have to say without it turning into noise. Sometimes I have to pause the video out of frustration.
I don't really have a nostalgic childhood summer, because up until I was in high school, I had to spend every summer up in a mountain where the only entertainment was a pool...and I don't like swimming...
I will say this though, I spammed Jurassic Park III with my cousin when I was younger and we found Lost World quite boring, although now I kinda prefer Lost World a little bit more
For me, both sequels are a struggle to sit through, but I'll take TLW any day over JP3. Mainly because the Dinosaurs in general look and act way better in TLW and there is no Tia Leoni in sight. Oh, and yea, FUCK JP3 for going full Transformers the movie Optimus Prime on our asses by killing off the Trex just to make another Dinosaur to sell toys.
My perfect summer was the one when Star Wars played daily at the dollar theater. It was '79 I believe. I saw Star Wars 44 times in theaters. This was before VCR release and before I had access to HBO.
Ah, 1993. I was about three years old. The following summer, '94, I would beg my mom to take me to see The Lion King constantly until the last place playing the film was a drive-in theatre. I think I saw that movie 7 or 8 times that summer.
Even without the nostalgic glasses, I still think the original Jurassic Park had better characters, story, and suspense. I like the characters in the original, they're not Shakespeare, but they're good and had chemistry. Sure the science has some flaws, but I think it works well enough. The sub plots I don't think mattered in the grand scheme (since they had to leave out a lot from the book). I still consider the original a GREAT movie. Jurassic World was really fun but not nearly as good as the original. But I would watch it again.
I agree with them on everything they said about the first movie. I disagree with them about the worst line in the second movie. The worst line in the second movie (in my opinion) is when Malcolm and company take the baby T-Rex back to their trailer, the baby's parents come to get their baby back and Malcolm says "Mommy's very angry." I'm like yeah...you just invaded the dinosaur's island, attacked them, and then you were foolish enough to steal the baby of the most bad-ass dinosaur on the island, break his leg and hold him captive in your trailer. OF COURSE she is going to be pissed and throw you off a cliff. lol The Lost World was insulting to me....Jurassic Park 3 was boring and painfully irritating. The only sequel in my opinion that is a worthy successor to the original Jurassic Park was Jurassic World....because they had the courage to try new things (like the genetic hybrid and Chris Pratt as a Raptor Whisperer). Some of it was silly, but that last scene with the Motherfucking T-Rex more than made up for it.
Also: what's with Summer Blockbusters having a character stuck in a vehicle, hanging off a cliff or stuck between rocks? We got this in Mission Impossible, Shazam, & technically TWO Fast & Furious films!
Just one thing to mention is The Lost World never tried to paint John Hammond as being a villain. The only reason Ian said to Peter "Now you're John Hammond" was that he jumped in with the same ideas that John Hammond had. Assuming he had control of the dinosaurs, but he didn't, and people were dying because of it. You weren't supposed to hate John Hammond at that point.
Mine was the summer of 1982 with ET, Annie, and Star Trek II. We just had Raiders the year before and was looking forward to Return of the Jedi, Wargames and Octopussy the next summer.
I remember seeing X-Men First Class about 9 times when I was 16, I brought almost everyone who said they haven't seen it to see the best X-Men movie to date (unless you count solo films then i'd say Logan) but yeah all my friends and siblings ended up seeing it with me, first 3 times was just me seeing it by myself. So yeah, Summer 2011
I enjoyed The Lost World when I was a kid, and I still enjoy it... I understand why people dislike the part on the mainland. But you REALLY think all of Ian Malcolm's kids love him?... You really think they'd all go see him while he's doing his own thing? I never get some of the complaints people make about the movie...
Summer of 012, saw Dark Knight Rises opening night and saw the ridiculous amount of coplayers and then afterwards saw it with my sister. Loved it both times
In some editions of the Jurassic Park DVD (and surely a tv program somewhere) there is some very interesting behind the scenes information about how they made the movie. At first it was going to be stop-motion animation with clay dinosaurs, but it looked just a bit too clunky for Spielberg and others. That's when they decided to make the full shift to CGI, and the early T-Rex CGI test was fantastic. The way they did the Gallimimus scene was cool too. The one time the CGI falls just a little short, imo, is the final T-Rex shot. It's just barely noticeable. But holy shit, the T-Rex intro in the rain, that made me start sweating. It holds up so fucking well. Directors back then knew how to keep a scene quiet to build suspense, not have a fucking orchestra tell you "HEY ITS SCARY NOW, BE SCARED!"
I remember not hearing anything at all about JP3 until my brother came home with a super special edition DVD of it. And you're right, it wasn't bad, per say. It just really wasn't worth a second watch. The dinosaurs that they didn't put into the other two films was the best part, just for visual reasons.
Uh, when Empire Strikes Back came out. Friends and I would hit the theater, first showing and stay the entire day, seeing every consecutive showing (they didn't charge us) but we'd have to head home before the late late showing.....yeah, I have no clue how many times I saw it on first release. We did this on and off for weeks.
My personal favourite Jeff Goldblum performance is his performance in The Grand Budapest Hotel. Pretty much because I never heard him say "Uh" in that film once.
You know, every time I hear about someone seeing a movie a bunch of times my eyes kind of glaze over and I sympathize with Alec Guinness. Sure, I was in the "How could you say that to a little kid you idealized you?" camp when I first heard the story of the kid who said he had seen Star Wars a hundred times. But then I had a friend in high school who saw Titanic a hundred times. "Uh... it isn't a bad movie but seriously?" "Isn't a band movie!? It is a great movie squee~" "... the fuck?" Now I am totally on Obi Wan's side. Seriously. Don't do that. That kind of obsession isn't healthy. That said, I am glad to hear you guys explain it. How you kept taking friends who hadn't seen it to see it.
To be hornets with you guys I would rather see the lost world anytime then Jurassic Park 111 because at least it tried. I agree that it had so many plot points and bad dialogue, and the other things you said. But I can remember so many scenes from the lost world, more then I can from Jurassic Park 111. There are some pretty awesome scenes in the lost world, like the raptors in the long grass, and Sarah on the glass that is about to break, when they are chasing dinosaurs in vehicles and so on. I say that the theme music was good too, not as good as the first theme but good.
Missed Jurrasic Park sadly when I was younger, my first big summer movie was Independence Day. ID want bad, it just wasn't JP. I took my daughter to see Jurassic World, I think she was pleased, I wish I'd had the opportunity to see JP like she wad watching the newest on the series.
I liked Lost World but I'm a little younger than Doug and Rob and this was my first JP movie so I think it has more to do with nostalgia for me rather than me thinking it's good movie. Lost World came out in 98 right? That means I was 11 when this came out. I still like it.

So, what you're saying to filmmakers who use CGI these days if roughly this: "The problem with the scientific power that you're using here, it didn't require any discipline to attain it.
1:40 For those who don't know, The Lion King is from 1994.
electricmastro I knew.
electricmastro I already knew that and I was born in '87.
And in a league of their own was 1992
electricmastro and they said The Fugitive came out the following year when it came out the same year
electricmastro And Terminator 2 came out in 1991.
Lion King came out summer 1994.
Summer of 93... that was the summer of Apple Jacks.
Not of the killer clown the killer clown, the fucking killer clown? :C
Dipper723 i still have my Applejacks polaroid photo. Good times
Dipper723 Well this thread crashed.
I got my first real six string. Bought it at the five-and-dime.
***** Fun Fact: Bryan Adams was 10 in 1969. That song's actually in reference to his favorite sexual position.
The scene where the Raptors stalk those guys in the tall grass was awesome in Last World though
I honestly like the lost world
The lost world is an underrated movie.
The fuck is last world?
True
That was for Dino crisis 2
The reason they needed a "second island" in Lost World is that in the original Jurassic Park novel the army firebombed the island.
"Vince Vaughn in Air Force One. 'Hey, get off my plane.'"
That made me laugh so freaking hard! Thank you, Rob, for that moment.
A new video popped up while I was getting caught up on these! Super swell sauce!
I still find it hilarious that Doug Walker caused you to have an identity crisis.
@@magicwindow6682 💀💀💀 I am so happy I found this comment
Let's talk about how good Jurassic Park was now." (Funny enough, people in the theater seemed on board with that.)
G: On a related note, the original stuff did do a great job drawing me in. It had enough new things to justify itself and wasn't just sucking up to the first movie. (What sequels?)
H: *~product placement~* "Hey guys, corporation sponsorships are evil." *~product placement~*
There were other things I noticed. Good dialog, bad dialog, but I think that covers the major points. Not a must see, but if you like Jurassic Park, hey it's good.
IM A MOTHERFUCKING T REX
+TheMortonator Have you seen their review of it. Rob liked it overall. Doug has mixed feelings. Felt like the movie was mostly underwhelming and unnecessary but he loved the ending.
jstarwars360 I commented pre-review.
Two things you oughta know, Doug:
Awesomo 2 wel it's not realyy like that tho (i think)
jonny boi 'just got done watching it and the director is a liar. There were maybe two instances in the film that used animatronics. Not going to spoil but if they used more animatronics than i noticed (and trust me I was looking out for them) than they looked and moved like cgi. It was disappointing.
Stone Sullivan
yea it was mostly cgi ( i dont care tho) i think maybe the ugly longneck where a animatronic
I wouldn't mind either but they explicitly said they were going to use alot of animatronics so I feel lied to. They knew that people liked the mixture of the two effects in the original movie so to get hardcore fans to go they said they were going to "capture the magic" of the original.
Stone Sullivan
well i can understand that.
Actually it was Ludlow that fell on the baby Rex's leg and injured it because he was drunk.
Especially a fucking dinosaur as ruthless and badass like a Velociraptor.
deadbynightupbylunch
Which is why we see them ready to lunge at him. But they know better because he is Alpha raptor in their mind.
Keaton Smith Looks badass but so fricking fake. The first movie's effects look so much better and that was made 21 years ago! :O
So you two uh...review-review movies?
The first "review" is more meant for comedy
I really enjoy the lost world, I don't think it was very bad.
Raptorus 77 yeah same here, it's a solid movie.
3 is better
Yeah right.
Thank you, Im glad you agree
I like Lost World. I like that it's darker (I ignore that ADR line about how the kids at the start weren't killed, just scratched up). I like Jeff Goldblum. JP3 on the other hand: Tea Leoni? Yeesh.
Guys, get it straight. T2 was 91, lion king was 94, the fugitive was 93, and a league of their own was 92.
Napoleon Dynamite: "IDIOTS!"
Hawk Flame "I remember it like it was yesterday...it was the perfect summer", and then Rob continues to get all the release dates wrong lol.
MysticSpoonAttack Exactly XD
MysticSpoonAttack It was over 20 years ago. Give him a break.
***** just like the music
Real Thoughts Sailor Moon?
The Lost World Jurassic Park is criminally underrated. I’d say it’s only a tiny bit lesser than the first. It’s a great sequel.
EXACTLY
Nah
Dougs brother, please let Doug finish his sentences
Simon B. He has a name!
Doug steals the spotlight in all the videos... So rob wants his spot too ;)
+DAMIEN MILLS
Yeah I feel bad for Rob sometimes, I don't think a lot of people realize he co-writes the NC reviews. A lot of the time when Doug says something dumb, he's able to make him see sense, the other issue I have is that sometimes he's a little too convinced he's right about things he doesn't really know much about.
Simon B. It's usually Doug's job to interrupt.
I saw first Man in Black movie maybe 16 times and first Matrix maybe 12 times.
In theaters, I think mine is a tie, with four times each: Shrek (the first one), and Catch Me if You Can.
Crazy Horse 9000
Yea, its all about suspending disbelief.
Michael Martinez It is all about investment and good writing.
Yes, it has improved, but like Macdonald's, irrigation and food production has also improved, it's just how you use it.
+Crazy Horse 9000 Its not necessarily the cgi but bad artstyle or very low detail or to "shiny" of cgi that makes it bad. Gollum from lord of the rings was amazing. Everything down to the lighting on his face was perfect.
16:35 The Lost World: Jurassic Park
26:08 Jurassic Park lll
Thanks.
Rob, please stop interrupting Doug, thank you.
centperk It's usually the other way around.
centperk I thought I was the only one who noticed
centperk Brothers are allowed to interrupt each other.
0816 M3RC Good point, but Doug is usually on to something good, but Rob interrupts him every chance he gets to continue his jokes.
centperk Sibling Rivalry in effect.
Lord of the rings is miles ahead of Star Wars
Sorry Doug, but you listed so many inaccuracies someone has to correct you.
Terminator 2 - 1991
League of Their Own - 1992
The Fugitive - 1993
Lion King - 1994
We have enough trouble with crocks and Comodo's and snakes. Oh my.
V4Now and that's why we're not establishing a world under the waters yet.
I'll be honest, I always preferred JP3 over The Lost World.
Same here, but my reason is mainly because I saw JP3 as a kid and liked Alan a lot better than Ian Malcolm (I still do)
tscream80For me it was because JP3 was just so much brighter than Lost World. The characters were also a tad less annoying.
tscream80 I only watched it because there were Pteranodons in it.
The best thing about the third one was when title came up and the Roman numeral 3 transitions you right into the first scene, that was cool!
My parent's first date was seeing Jurassic park. They were in their thirties. I'm 16.
Legoindy7734 I"m sorry.
That sucks
DAMIEN MILLS You gave the kid nightmares. Good job.
Guess which part of the song your dad climaxed on?
Legoindy7734 Time for you to continue the family cycle by taking a girl to Jurassic World.
Jurassic Park: A+
The Lost World: C
Jurassic Park III: C-
Jurassic World: B+
I wait for these videos man. I don't always agree with everything they say but they often bring up good points about these movies and I just love film conversation.
Why is Doug dressed like General Zod?
😂😂😂😂
19:56 funny part starts.
I don't mind being the differing opinion, I think Lost World is still the best JP sequel, with World close behind and 3 in a very distant 4th. I've always been a defender of Lost World and, although I see the flaws, I think (much like Die Hard 2) its an excellent action sequel.
I always enjoyed Jurassic Park 3, maybe because
Sam Neill is so watchable; he keeps attention.
I recommend In the Mouth of Madness if you enjoy Sam Neill.
I've heard a lot of good things about Jurassic World so far.
Why is everyone shitting on the raptor thing in Jurassic World? People can train all kinds of predators what is so implausible about raptors?
You two need to start Steven Universe vlogs. That's show is amazing.
ANIMAYFAN123 YES
ANIMAYFAN123 I SECOND THIS!
I will try to explain why I find The Lost World to be a guilty pleasure, and a movie I actually enjoy, because I enjoy more than just the movie itself, but a lot of things that were associated with the film as well as my viewing of the film in theaters with my father:
First of all, the first Jurassic Park is one of my most favorite movies of all time.
Um um um
The Lost World was good. Jurassic Park 3 was complete crap :/
I disagee. I don't know. JP3 was more interesting maybe.
This was before VCR release and before I had access to HBO.
that Goldblum impression by Rob is spot on, and that Sam Neil impression omg so great
Summer of 1986. I saw double features of something and Top Gun every two weeks.
That "Ben!" at 29:02 was impeccably good.
1993 was it for me too: Jurassic Park, Lion King, I went to Space Camp AND Disney World....best summer of my life
Lion King was ‘94 Bro.
1993 i was 4 and i saw Jurassic Park 4 or 5 time but i loved the movie and still do
Every fucking time Rob does the Vince Vaughn in Air Force One bit; I laugh every time, even when I'm expecting it, I'm lmfao.
I saw Jurassic Park 11 times that summer too. I think I got up to 20 after the VHS came out.
I saw Jurassic World. It was actually not half bad. I mean it wasn't as good as the first movie, but it was better then the last two sequels.
Don't worry guys, jurassic world does use puppetry and animatronics for suspensful parts, with cgi for the action scenes.
"Uh... it isn't a bad movie but seriously?"
"Isn't a band movie!? It is a great movie squee~"
"... the fuck?"
Now I am totally on Obi Wan's side.
Other great films of 1993:
Groundhog Day, Remains of the Day, Fearless, Leprechaun.
1986: Disney World, Boy Scout Camp, Square dance Convention (hey, I was into it then), and Transformers combiners.
06:00 Also Watch, Reilly : Master of Spies. It's a historical spy Drama. Set during the Russian Revolution. He was also great in that.
I was gonna say something about their critiquing of Vince Vaughn doing dramas, but Hacksaw Ridge And Brawl in Cell Block 99 wasn’t out yet.
Weird Al Yankovic love his jurrasic park song it's hilarious!

The way Doug looked when he was singing made me piss my pants.
No way :-)) '93 was my nostalgic summer too! :-D \m/ Also '96.
"I'm cooperating here. I'm trying to help you with the dinasours"
:D
I liked Lost World but I'm a little younger than Doug and Rob and this was my first JP movie so I think it has more to do with nostalgia for me rather than me thinking it's good movie. Lost World came out in 98 right? That means I was 11 when this came out. I still like it.
summer of 2000 I think it was, comedy central aired kids in the hall. The theme song is what enacts the flashback.
My nostalgic summer for movies was '89... and '84 or 85.
