The senators are in effect jurors. The word juror comes from the word to swear. They swear an oath of office and that includes a duty to conduct an unbiased trial of the person accused in an impeachment. They did not. They said before the trial started that they were not going to. That renders the process of impeachment invalid. They had said they were going to disregard their sworn duty to conduct an unbiased impeachment process. It would be like a foreman of a jury telling the judge before the trial began that the jury were going to ask the defendant what they should do and to follow his instructions to acquit him. If any judge heard that he would immediatley declare the trial process invalid. This was a flagrant violation of the duty of members of the senate to uphold the constitution of the United States and of the chief justice to fullfil his duty to uphold it also. .

When Mitch McConnell said he was going to do what Donald Trump told him to do in conducting the impeachment, the presiding judge should have immediately called a halt to the proceedings since the Republicans had basically said they were not going to conduct a proper unbiased impeachment. The senators are in effect jurors. The word juror comes from the word to swear. They swear an oath of office and that includes a duty to conduct an unbiased trial of the person accused in an impeachment. They did not. They said before the trial started that they were not going to. That renders the process of impeachment invalid. They had said they were going to disregard their sworn duty to conduct an unbiased impeachment process. It would be like a foreman of a jury telling the judge before the trial began that the jury were going to ask the defendant what they should do and to follow his instructions to acquit him. If any judge heard that he would immediatley declare the trial process invalid. This was a flagrant violation of the duty of members of the senate to uphold the constitution of the United States and of the chief justice to fullfil his duty to uphold it also. .
