I've got to give you credit on that A/C installation. It's a very clean installation, very functional, very efficient, very cost effective, and actually pretty nautical looking. It's way beyond the ones where people simply cut a hole in the boat and stick it through. Your heat removal and fresh air chambers and ducts and power system are top drawer. Nice job!
Mr.Wizard I have read countless forums. Watched countless videos, and turned countless wrenches. You sir are always a delight to watch. Can't wait to see what you and Mrs.Wizard have planned next. Much appreciation from 🇨🇦
You and Hoovie in separate boats on the same lake? 'Caddyshack and the anchor' scene comes to mind. Tyler is Rodney. You better keep the life preservers handy...
When you roll up the Naugahyde widow covers, you should tie them off with two small straps the same way it is done in tents (the two small straps are sewn on opposite sides of the edge of the cover). That would be easier than unclipping the cover and finding/sliding a ring around them. 2c
Friendly tip from someone who lives on the water for a living.. set up a second lighting circuit with either green or red lighting. If you or the owner ever needs to run at night, the green or red interiors will save your night vision.
Replace your ignition module if it hasn't been done. The factory ones are unsealed and the exposed circuit board is bound to fail. Sealed ones are cheap insurance.
LED lights are dangerous destroying eyesight and causing cancer big time as exposed over on the Ian R Crane RUclips channel re Mark Steele and by many Doctors such as Dr Alexander Wunsch at this link here : vimeo.com/301352213
You should cut those metal curtain rings in half and add some strong magnets in, that way you don’t have to pull the snaps off the front curtains and try to wiggle it down
Mr. & Mrs. Wizard, might I suggest buying a cheap electric bread knife for cutting seat/bed foam. It will give you more precise cuts than a normal serrated knife.
A very simple but nice upgrade I always do is swap out the water and fuel tank vents with stainless flush mounted ones. When you’re rafted against other boats, they tend to smash up the old style when you get waked. I would also swap all the bulbs in the nav light system with LED festoon bulbs (multi color cockpit lighting as well!).
Wizard, if you have trouble reading the iPad screen you could fab up blinders on three sides to keep the sun off. Also, make sure you've set the screen brightness to max. Easy to forget that sometimes.
I really like how both of you are so engaged in the small cruiser, it is going to be like home sweet home! A lot of a cruiser for 9k but you deserv it 100%! Watching all videos!
Ah, Grand Lake 'O the Cherokees. My grandparents used to have a place there when I was a kid. I have a lot of fond memories on that lake. Hoovie is probably docked at Shangri La. I don't have a lot experience on that end of the lake though. We were closer to the highway 10 bridge. We were always hunting for skiing water near three fingers and Wilson point area, if I recall correctly.
Yeah, all of the "big" money is packed in and around the Shangri-La/Monkey Island area. Hudiburgs' place is up that way, a couple of family friends have houses up there. The guy that started Cobalt has a house on the point across from Arrowhead YC, and just north of Cherokee YC, down in the Duck Creek area. I've never been a fan of Grand because you have to have at least a 30ft boat for the ride across the middle of the lake to not be jarring, due to all of the 40+ft yachts/cruisers/house boats running back and forth at full tilt.
2:08 the word you are looking for is "chartplotter" Also, after B is for Build Riva disaster waiting to happen, it is great to see another prolific car guy doing a boat project in a sensible way. And speaking of cooking on a boat, I still remember the first time I made spaghetti at sea. Halfway through the process we got underway and I barely had time to unlock the cooker gimbal.
A couple if tips.... Electric carving knife for cutting foam. Makes smooth straight cuts. Get a snap tool kit... install snaps on opposite sides of your sunshades and snap them up and out of the way...if your rings don't work out for you. Also works on the curtains if the wind gets to blowing them around and you can snap them down, and no lurkers peeping on you. Oh, get the stainless steel snaps for corrosion resistant qualities. RV surplus places have gas fridge for cheap....last for days on small 15-20lb tank. Lastly for a/c ... if the old unit dies not work out.... Those portable room units for a couple hundred bucks are great. Uses little power cools large area and comes in a kit with exhaust hoses and panels and such. My brother and I did his boat a few years ago and it was awesome. The a/c lasted several hours off a standard car battery and when he upped the batteries and size it lasted .... I think, 6 hours and indefinite with the engines running. The ladies loves getting in the cabin on those 95° days on the river when cruising. Just my 2 cents...
I feel your pain Mrs W. I worked in the garden shovelling topsoil to new flowerbeds with no issue, next day went to pick up a socks and BAM, back agony.
Your gonna need a fan in in the helm area..It gets hot in there and the little side vents are not enough at low speed.. I had also added a hatch in the Top..
I had the same boat yours in 2013. I fixed everything and it looked brand new. The boat feels big on the water and docking and trailering is a bit hard. Practice, it's a lot of boat. But that's a good thing. You will enjoy it. Rides beautifully.
I had a 1996 2452 bayliner cruiser. It looked the same as the one in the video, except mine had shore power A/C, 12 volt fridge, microwave etc. It also had a 5.7 merccruiser. It was a good boat. I had it five years, and it never cost me a cent. I sold it for more than I paid for it.
my dad used to do a lot of upholstery work. always cut foam with an electric turkey carver. basically 2 serrated knives with an alternating sawzall action.
Wizard!! You dog!!! Thank you sooo much for affirming my choice and search for a 1990s Bayliner 2452. I've been looking for a 1990s 2452 for about 6 years. I've been hoping to find one here in Canada to avoid nearly 40% exchange pricing and any nasty Trudeau fees at the border. I love these boats. Perfect 2 person camper and towable at less than 6000 pounds. But being recently retired and no Hoovie style income, I need to find the right boat at the right price.
If you contour that little shelf to fit the shape of the rear of the coffee maker, you can slide it back an inch or so, it’ll help keep the coffe maker from moving around in choppy weather AND it will clear the stove insert so you can open the stove to turn on the AC fan without spilling any coffee that’s still in it.
RE the battery placement & aux fuel tank: what happens when you use the aux fuel? You get a list to the battery side. You’ll have to add some solid ballast on the port side or move the accessory battery to the port side.
LOL in our area we call them BaySinkers. I like that install of the AC unit, When I had my boat I ( my wife also) could never go in the cabin without getting sea sick lol, as long as I was the captain never got sick until then, east coast on the ocean though, camped out on a huge sailboat for a week that was fun, never even felt sea sick then.
My large 41 and bigger boat days were long ago. But air cond and refrigeration was not easy to do back then so I dealt with ice. There were no cheap microwaves or inverters so i used propane and open flame alcohol to cook with. These days high quality 12 volt battery and inverter systems are way cheap and high quality.
I've got a Dometic CC40 I use in my truck. Amazing to have a real fridge on the go and not just a cooler or a 12v powered cooler but a real fridge with a compressor.
Mrs. Wizard I've been there with the back pain. I highly recommend a chiropractor. It took a bit to get aligned, but now I go for a tune-up once a month. Best money I have ever spent. Mr. Wizard, repack those wheel bearings and flush the trailer brakes.
The Bayliner is a nice boat. Very stable and if I recall they ride up high and are not too bad in shallower water. I'm still looking forward to seeing the other boat finished though. That old girl is sweet. The curtain rings were a great idea!
10:24 You may benefit from looking into Type-C chargers and a battery pack. Great choice going LED. Also, adding battery muscle is a good call, think how many more electronics in use now then there was in 1993. Coming along Nicely, looking forward to the next video.
A/C suggestion - have the vent from the cabin blow into the cockpit where the captain and 1st Mate will be sat, as opposed to a random exhaust somewhere!
Dear Mrs Wizard, my wife and I have had to cut memory foam and we used an electric knife, cuts really well, and if you use a blue colour light in the bathroom at night it doesn't blind you and you'll be able to see👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘
If you don't like the rough edges on the foam from the serrated knife, I've had good success using a very thin blade Japanese kitchen knife (Nakiri) to cut foam. It needs to be razor sharp, though, and I have to touch it up with a strop in between cuts. But it does cut like butter if you sharpen it right.
Mrs Wizard, you have my sympathy. Backs are stupid! I put mine out turning roast potatoes I was cooking for Christmas dinner a few years ago! I was flat on my back for two days!
You can get BBQ's that clip on to a post you can install on the side/back of the boat. It's still an open flame, but they have covers and it's in the open air instead of a confined space.
Mrs Wizard was throwing that thing around like she’s a young buck and blew her back out.👏👏👏 I’ve been married 13 yrs now myself and I applaud the fire and intensity 😂🤣🤣😂
I'm thinking some double-sided velcro straps will be a bit easier for those curtains. I gotta give it to you guys, you have a knack for finding alternate uses for older electronics like the Ipad. The a/c conversion was just genius.
I assume that the starting battery and the "house" battery are on a split charge relay. The beat way of cutting any foam is with an electric carving knife.
Hey man....you shouldn't store that boat with the outdrive maxed out for trailering. It stretches & weakens the bellows, shortens the life of it ...leak , leak....! (Don't your employees feel bad that you have all of these personals assets in the shop? 2 boats, really?)
Hey, CW....Those new LED lights in the cabin are great, and I have the exact ones in my RV. I learned from serving on a ship in the navy how important night vision is and that red lights preserve your night vision while giving you a good source of light. I took one of the lenses off each of those lights (the one over the ‘low beam’ light) and sprayed red tint on the surface. Look on Amazon for VHT brand Nite Shades. It is a translucent red lens paint. 3 or 4 coats and they work great!!! I can email you some pictures of my lights if you want. See email I sent to your shop with pics.....
With all the experience Mr & Mrs Wizard are getting fixing boats, I could see Omega service and repairs going into the marine business for real. Stay tuned.
To Mrs. Wizard: I hear ya on the random injury thing. I find that's one of the uh.... "gifts" that getting to your late 30s/40s gives you; random injuries that you get doing the most normal of things. Ah well - not much we can do about that! The boat is looking amazing - and great idea with the reuse of the AC.
Mrs. Wizard, you could put some brakelight tape or some sort of red filter for the night light in the head. Red light is the best for night time as it puts the least amount of strain on your eyes. Give it a try and thank me later haha.
When you launch, trailer will have to go under water. You don't want water in the wheel bearings. Suggest packing the ENTIRE bearing cavity in grease so no water can get in. Obviously too much grease for high speed, but for short trips to the launch ramp should be just fine. Remember to unplug the trailer lights so they are off when they hit the water.

Just a suggestion when doing boat vids refer to "Car Wizard" as "Capt. Wizard"
At this point, now that he has a fleet, he should be called the Commodore Wizard... Lol
Shrimp boat captain wizard. Lol.
I’ll sign that petition
Love it
CAPTAIN OF THE HEART
You and Hoovie in separate boats on the same lake? 'Caddyshack and the anchor' scene comes to mind. Tyler is Rodney. You better keep the life preservers handy...
I will never get tired of boat updates. I’m a avid boater myself and really enjoy these videos.
Wizard: "Welcome back to the Wizard Shop and Dry Docks!"
Loved Mrs. Wizard's Bay Liner joke 🤣😂🤣😂
Hope your back feels better Mrs. Wizard!
what happened did Mr. Wizard blow her back out?
You’re actually a very great teacher. I like how majority if not all of your videos are clear and well spoken.
Hi Mrs Wizard, I have just cut soms memory Foam and I used an Electric Meat Knife and its does a rearly clean cut and goes through it like Butter.
When you roll up the Naugahyde widow covers, you should tie them off with two small straps the same way it is done in tents (the two small straps are sewn on opposite sides of the edge of the cover). That would be easier than unclipping the cover and finding/sliding a ring around them. 2c

Some decent size solar panels on the roof would keep those batteries topped up.
Possibly a nautical wind mill?
Not likely. A solar panel is about 200w. It takes a lot more than one or two panels
I truly appreciate the clever solutions that the two of you create to make your vessels liveable and tidy.
Replace your ignition module if it hasn't been done. The factory ones are unsealed and the exposed circuit board is bound to fail. Sealed ones are cheap insurance.
How about some small solar panels for trickle charging the batteries? The sun on the water is perfect for solar energy.
it depends if they use that boat a lot. solar is a lil pricey however it would be worth
A lot of boats are upgrading solar panels rn. You can find some still useful marine units cheap.
Maybe a small(ish)(?) Honda generator that they can connect to the shore-power plug?
Yes! So glad to see the Bayliner coming along.
Thank you Admiral Wizard and Mrs. always a learning moment. Waiting to see the Wizard waterskiing 🏊♂️
Hope you have some mood lighting for night time. Those LED’s are seriously bright.
Agreed, they are too bright for this little space.
Need red light that won't destroy night visibly if you need drive it at night for some reason
