- Major maintenance long overdue by time not mileage. Maintenance with the proper fluids and specifications is very important. New bus owner is getting his bus up to snuff. This Prevost marathon conversion was in a very concerning condition when it arrived. The previous owner told the new owner he had most of his maintenance done at Marathon but judging by all the permatex we have found being used vs proper gaskets i doubt that was done at marathon.
First video on this bus • How did the wheels not...
Like the footage of the proper disposing of waste fluids. Must be a pain to take all those fluids to a recycler / waste site. Great video!
I have to pay here to get rid waste fluids and it ain't cheap.
@@Mercmad But you're doing the right thing!👍
Thanks for making America safe again.
you have a great presentation skill way above others. Thanks for all you do from doing quality work to entertaining the rest of us.
Gonna be a safe and proud coach once you guys dial’er in!!!!
I can’t wait to get it on a test drive.
Just as Factory intended. Your experience is remarkable. Fun to watch. And crew.@@BusGreaseMonkey
That bus was in sad shape but because of you fixing it properly it will be so much better 😊😊😊
We bought our coach over a year ago, but so far have only driven it the 60 miles home. The coach work was done 30 years ago, mostly very nicely, but I have been focusing on fixing that up. The bus itself is now 54 years old. It starts and runs great, but your videos remind me that it must be checked over mechanically, from top to bottom.
LOL first time I saw a bus get an IV!
Blood transfusion
Glad to hear the music again. Love your method paced delivery going over what you're doing. Really impressed how much you knock them out of the park. Nice job :)
That bearing retainer nut with no threads left on it is crazy!
That nut was as useless as a wireless cord.
Pulled up next to a Prevost motor home recently in my 2022 70 passenger school bus powered by a 5.0 liter Detroit 4 banger. The Prevost must have had a 92 series of some sort. It made my day to hear it, and made me chuckle at the vast differences between the 2 Detroits.
You guys are the best. Happy New Year.
Working on stuff with automatic transmissions like this, I found the quick way to refill is to take your metal pump hose end and stick it in the dipstick/filler tube, then pack all around it with latex or nitrile gloves and a screwdriver until packed tight. Then you can pump ATF in as fast as you want to, really makes the day go faster
Great to you guys working together on the bus.
Wow..that is a beautiful bus!!
So can you please give us a break down price for all the parts and labor on the Prevo. It’s to show everyone why it’s necessary to do their maintenance religiously. And to pre trip and post trip their bus especially if it’s their full time live aboard. Great Video Series Thank You 🙏
6:55 man, the relief I felt, refreshing, lol.
Packing the Bags for the Misty Mountains Where the Spirits Roam. Led Zep
Baton down the hatches Scott winter will be bitter this year
That is a nice bus 👍👍🇦🇺
Wow. She desperately needed those fluids changed. Nice work BGM team!
It would be a good guess that the coolant was 30yrs old.
Love the show great work guys. Stay safe in the bad weather. It’s summer here in townsville australia. 33deg c nice👍🍺
About the same in Mulwala NSW…
Hope that storm is less than what is predicted. We're looking at freezing overnight here in the Southern Arizona deserts.
Liking the new pictures shown over the Tom Feller outro....
A good rule of thumb is 2/3 of the tap length should be your tap depth
@1:00 That Detroit will thank you! This one of the best oils to use, I've been trying to tell people for years, PLEASE stop using the cheapest 15W40. They're like, well, it leaks so much, so I just top it off with whatever is cheapest... 🤑🤣
I really appreciate your content 👍🇺🇸
hope the snow doesnt hit you very hard, but if it slows down deliveries, just enjoy the break from work for a day or so!
Scotty, you’re a good man you’re gonna do what’s right for this guy if I had a bus that I bought I know who I’d bring it to that’s a no-brainer
You will put this bus in a much better position!
We used used coolant for keeping conveyer belts from freezing at a wood burning power plant.
The dynamic duo in action!
Yes. Previous video was great. Not good for bad issues, but great results for finding and solving key issues.
This bus has very interesting problems. On the previous video you seem to have achieved multi-layer laminar flow when you drained the wheel oil. That is similar to how camera film is still made at Kodak... though they use an extremely large and complex system to do it. You have bus metal grain layers instead of silver grains there. Possibly you got many more layers then color film even!
How fortunate that new parts are still made for these aging beasties, unlike the situation with most passenger cars these days.
Two firsts for the channel - the retaining nut and the foamy coolant.
Looks like you could use some uniforms.
And the surprises keep coming on such a beautiful looking bus. By its looks you would think maintenance would’ve been impeccable. NOT!
Mike Rowe would be impressed 👍
Thanks for the video.
Yes John right in the box
Nice work. You must have quite a "parts hall of shame" cabinet going on.
I bet there are alot of MCI buses on the road today that are poorly maintained, probably do the basic maintenance oil change air filter maybe adjust brakes and maybe grease the chassis?
What engine is in that bus, is it a Silver 92 series? If so, you need to push it on them that cooling system maintence is not optional on a wet liner engine. You can get away with it on like 6V71, 8V71, but wet liners can get pitted from cavitation damage from the lack of slime coating from proper cooling, and that results in pinhole leaks and a wasted engine over time :) I've seen liners pulled where a guy used just straight tap water from a garden hose, and holding the liner up to the sun looked like a starry night.
We blew the Cat outer air filter clean every 50 hours. The inner was left alone for a longer replacement only service.
The bus is finally getting some overdue TLC.
Either that bus has done some dusty roads or the air filter hasn't been cleaned in a while!
In harvest, that was about 1/2 day's worth of dirt.
I don’t think it’s a “either“ “or” but a “both”
The kingpin bearing was just smushed shut..wow that is a new one. Had no idea Prevost had coolant filters. That is a new one for me.
Apparently, the previous owners didn't know they had them either!
It has coolant filters because it is a 92 series Detroit Diesel engine. Not because of the chassis brand. The 92 series has wet liners which require the coolant filter to distribute Suplemental Coolant Additives (SCA) to minimize cavitation on the liners & engine block.
@@markphilpott8735 Thanks that is some very useful information.
@@markphilpott8735Thanks! I need to check mine.
Probably added some dish soap to the coolant to reduce surface tension and get slightly better cooling......looks like he dumped too much in though.
I think you’re probably right.
Another beautufl money pit bus and more lives saved❤
i am still confused that why anyone would purchase a vehicle (new or used, I don't care) without having third party inspection.
Usually because it looks nice ;)
Or your a retired mechanic and know how to do the repairs yourself. Just replaced EGR cooler on mine which has a Cummins
Probably the same reason a lot of men resist going to the doctor, they are afraid of bad news. They think if they don't hear about it, it doesn't exist. Looks good on the outside. 🤪
@@terrynall2152doesn't look like this guy is doing the repairs himself. He hired the big guns here to fix it lol
@ hey I just responded to why someone would buy used without a professional inspector. I wouldn’t buy one newer than 08 just due to the def. Plus done many of brakes and wheel seals, engine work on mostly Freightliners
Excellent work!
I see a bench fire starting!!
I’ve seen more fire on a marshmallow.
The nut was a good one. Only seen that once before but it reced the Thereds on the end of the axel on the one I found.
Maintenance, maintenance, that's what it takes!
Now back to our regularly scheduled maintenance 🧑🔧
Enjoy your videos, great presentation with great information that goes along with it, is the fella working with you, your Son or employee. 👍👍✌️🇺🇲✌️
Looks like somebody put washer fluid in the coolant at some point in this buses life! Only time I've seen that much foam in an engine was right after we got a nice new "driver supplies" shelf with bright red coolant & bright red wiper fluid only a shelf apart.... XD
I've heard that the annual cost for a boat is around 10% of the value so $100k annually for $1 million boat. Not sure what it is for a bus but obviously many of these owners aren't spending near what is required.
There’s nothing inexpensive or cheap about Prevost motorcoaches. If a customer purchases one that’s had a lot over due and neglected repairs it can turn into a financial nightmare in a hurry. There’s a lot of unscrupulous people selling them from dealers to individuals that are looking for a customer who is unaware of what to look for and expect on a motorcoach.
Nice work
Don't burn the table
It’s a work bench. We use it to work on. It’s fine
Made me cry a bit too....
Did he say "Poop" when that king pin slid out ??.....LOL......
I wonder if that foam in coolant is from additives they put in to stop a leak?
The foam is mostly malt liquor 🥃
It is a crime that people with more money than they know what to do with, buy these luxury coaches then never maintain them. I know that is not the new owner, but the previous owner surely neglected even basic maintenace on this coach. It is scary that they are driving down the road by non comercially trained drivers at close to 80,000 lbs without a clue.
Probably closer to 50k lbs. some maintenance was neglected but clearly he was doing maintenance but it was done poorly.
Nice work😊
cool clip, keep them coming
You need to get your helper a uniform service, like dark blue.
coveralls
I think he's been there long enough to earn some official BGM coveralls. Of course, Scott will have to wear them as well!
Often wondered what happens to all the fluids you drain. Got good recycling facilities?
How is the container arch roof holding up to the heavy snow? Hope you folks have a prosperous 2025.
Nice, good video
You sure that’s coolant?? Looks like meringue to me (whipped egg white)
If only all vehicles on the road were safe as a BGM maintained ones 😊☮️
What causes coolant foaming ?
Engine degreaser added to the coolant tank to disguise oil in the coolant 😮
The workbench is on fire
Would love to know where in Montana he picked up the coach.
I SAY A SHOP THAT WOULD REUSE SOME OF THE OILS BY DUMPING THEM IN A BARREL OF WATER. THE METAL WOULD FALL TO THE BOTTOM OVER A FEW DAYS THEY WOULD SCOOP OUT THE OIL
Definitely don't need a rosebud for most of your work.....just a regular cutting head is less wasteful of gas....imo. didn't used to be a big deal to me, but gas prices are just crazy these days.
Exhaust bits need some tlc especially since i already broke it once.
Cool
What you all do with the cracked manifold. Did you weld-er-up.
Could it be brazed?
Wow.
Why did the coolant foam up so much?
Man what a shame. It’s a beauty. Totally neglected and worked on by idiots. Glad he went to you or his investment would prob be in the ditch or scrapyard.
Those issues could have killed someone.
Cheers
Ying for yang, pre heat with a rose bud, cut with..... a cutting torch lol
I use a torch people complain i should use a rosebud and vice versa. Never win 🥇
I don't understand the straight weight oil. Oil technology has come a long way which is why we have multiweight oil. What is it about these Detroits that make them allergic to multiweight oil?
I am not positive, but probably they have looser tolerances and require higher viscosity for both pumping flow and surface coating.
@ColdSteelCharger If that's the case they make higher viscosity multiweight oil.
What causes that coolant to be so foamy?
Blown head gasket?
wooden benches and a rose bud?
I would like to see the procedure your assistant uses to clean his trousers. Mmmmm Its my guess that its a simple remove and replace process. Otherwise I suggest he have them degreased and burned.
What causes foam in coolant? That's a new one on me!
30 year old coolant
👍😎💯🇺🇲
Two Koni's set on soft makes sense?
The dampening is minimal on soft.
@@BusGreaseMonkey So you don't think they had 2 konis on the front set on soft on purpose?
I’ve never seen coolant foam. Any idea what causes that?
Air bubbles ;)
Have you heard of silicosis? Please wear a respirator when blowing out filters.
The chassis on this bus would be better served with New Hampshire Oil Undercoating
1:15 DD-sized Capuchino. Detroit Diesel not Dunkin' Donuts.
How often should oil change be done on RV?
The problem is most people only go by mileage or hours but in an rv that sits they go 10 years between oil changes. That’s not ok
whats happening with the 92s in the boat?
Both heads are cracked.
One head has 5 cracks and is corroded so bad the seats fell out of it when he disassembled it.
The other head has 3 cracks in it.
Both heads are not repairable.
@@BusGreaseMonkey yikes thanks
Suggest that the owner show these videos to whom they purchased the bus from and ask for a substantial refund
maby etime for new speaker ? awfull at times.
I was watching Jonathan blow out the air filter and it struck me, he must go through a boat load of jeans every month, judging how black the ones were that he was wearing doing that filter.
They aren’t for wearing on date night out but they last a long time
I guess we dont notice that we are burning the table...
Barely charred
“Shou sugi ban” google it ;)
@@BusGreaseMonkeyaww had to Google that. I have studied that in the past, but either forgot or never knew the name. I used to have a shop bench made out of old RR freight cars floorboard. Solid hard Rock maple. Best bench I've ever had. Wish I still had it. If it hasn't burned down, someone else is still using it. I built it in the early 80's.

seeing so many videos from you, do you have an i.p.b./ mechanic's exploded view for every job that you do? like a haynes/clymer book from the manufacturers??
It's really nice that you are trying to get the job done without breaking the bank. 😃
