Much better looking boat than the Carver. Carver looks like it should just be named Boaty McBoatface. Bayliners get a bad rep from people that haven’t owned them. Many 1st time owners buy them and don’t know how to care for a boat. They’re not a high dollar custom boat, but if cared for properly, they’re just fine. Congrats on the new boat. It’ll serve you well!
yeah, the Carver looks pretty massive, top heavy almost. For smaller bodies of water especially, the Bayliner is the better choice as it no doubts turns better at any speed within its capability.
I am comfortable in the rep that Bayliners have. They are quite terrible. And their entire market is 1st time buyers . . . if you know people that grew up around lakes and boats, they will never have a BL. BL's get passed around from first time owner to first time owner. Until they are beyond repair.
Best flight attendant announcement I ever heard was "Please turn off all smart phones, dumb phones, blackberries, blueberries, crackberries, and ALL George Foreman grills". I think that was Delta.
I recommend not letting any water remain in the bilge under the engine. The oil pan in my Bayliner developed pin holes and leaked due to rainwater in the bilge. Otherwise it was a fun boat!
Boating takes a lot of effort and money, but there’s nothing like being on the water… so good! Hope you guys have tons of fun. 😎 P.S. A boating safety class for the whole family is never a bad idea. 🙂
@@MDemeulemeester Tyler started buying cars, then another until it spiralled to what hoopties he has today. The Wizard is doing the same but with boats.
The Sierra Classic is an excellent choice for first boat fun out on the lake. While you can overnight on it, it really shines as a fishing/day excursion boat. The $9,000 price tag no doubt reflects the heated up boating market, as this boat with trailer would have fetched substantially less $$$ prior to COVID. All-in-all, not a silly hooptie purchase, and in a pinch, you can use one the wheels off of Tyler's hoopdie fleet as a back-up anchor! Congrats and can't wait to see a vid of it cruising in the water!
When I was young in the 90s, my parents had a smaller Bayliner boat, a 20 foot unit with the 4.3L V6 MerCruiser. Those Bayliners sure are great boats, so functional!

Some people collect cars. Some collect rare guitars. Some folks have vacation homes or travel lavishly around the world. Boating is an expensive hobby for sure, but like all those things, it can also provide wonderful life and family experiences. Money has no value when your days are done. So I say if you have it, spend it, share it, create great experiences and live life to the fullest! Work hard, play hard. You go, Wizard fam! And thanks for bringing us along.
Hello there Wizard. From someone who lives on the Gulf Coast and has many lakes to fish (Texas. Houston area to be exact) I have to compliment you on the new boat and also let you know that’s called a transducer that sticks in the water for your depth finder. Also when purchasing a new unit, stay away from Humminbird. They’re cheap junk and the screens burn out in the sun very quickly! Also make sure that the one you purchase comes with a cover for when you’re not using it but you have it out during the day. It will extend the lifetime by years. Love the show. I’ve been watching since the beginning and have learned a lot from you (and Hoovie 😂😂😂) and keep up the great work! 👍
“When one yacht is taking so long to get ready, you just go out and buy another one! Isn’t that what everyone does!” ...well, when Tyler keeps making questionable hooptie purchasing decisions therefore providing you with steady income..... And now Elliot Alvis is making questionable hooptie purchasing decisions so there’s another potential revenue stream!
When I was a kid my dad bought a 36’ Carver. It had a blown head gasket. It also had miles of teak. My dad worked on it for over a year. We took it up and down the Hudson River. It was awesome.
I had that installed on my car and it really does make a difference you can feel the heat when you roll down the window burning your arm so it does make a difference.
Nice purchase. I do enjoy hearing Mrs Wizard on the videos...a huge improvement to the channel. A name? Pretty obvious to me....MERLIN. From the UK, cheers for now.
The happiest two days in the life of a boat owner are when they buy their first boat and .... ... their second boat! Also, Mrs Wizard is precious, she's the best :)
I was a Service Advisor, for several years, at a Pontiac-GMC dealer in Baltimore, that also had a Bayliner dealership. I bought one with a 350 (Chevy) Mercruiser Magnum (270 HP) with a Bravo outdrive on it. It as 260 HP if you got the Non-Magnum with a Alpha outdrive. The powerplant long lasted the ship...lol !!! But it was a great boat thought....we had a lot of great times on it.

I really do look forward to seeing the interior coming quickly up to a standard Mrs Wizard is happy with. And the mechanical plumbing and electronics repairs and replacements are done the efficency and as economically as you would serve anyone else in the shop. That you can show us 85-90% there very soon. Don't forget to buy a good anchor, if you don't already have one. And a nice safe way of tying two boats together for dinner, or overnight camping.
"Kinda of a yacht"....no not at all. Yachts are at minimum 33' (10m). The boats you have are called cabin cruisers and still can be a lot of fun. good luck!
I'm enjoying your channel very much, thanks to Hoovie and his links and suggestions. My first thought after looking at these yachts is that you have a keen mind in how to analyze and repair almost every kind of mechanical vehicle (cars, trucks and yachts). However, you can spread yourself too thin. You should take on one project at a time - instead of using the shotgun approach to trying to repair and upgrade all of it at the same time. That way it makes your channel more effective because we, the viewers, see your results more quickly. Buy, repair, replace, fix, clean and sell for a profit. Do it all with one project in 30 days. I think the bayliner will end up being your go-to toy for the lake by far....it's smaller/easier to get to/ from the water/ easier to maintain/ store during winter yet more than big enough to have a blast with
Somehow this video hit me right in the feels. You remind me so much of my late father i lost last year. He was also a mecanic and loved boats (had 4 in his lifetime). His passion for boats even gave him a nice sideline as insurance companies hired him to evaluate boat when they got older to see if they were fit to be insured. PS, if that bayliner has a fiberglass transom with wood in it, get it tested, it might be hollow.
Congrats! on the new boat. It seems like a much better fit for you guys. A wise boater once told me it's better to get the smallest boat that does everything you want a boat to do than to get a bigger boat. The cost in time and money grows quickly with big old broken boats.. as you know. Have fun with Jelly Bean!
Avoid E-waste. Don't throw the GPS in the trash!! The scrap yards that take your old rotors and drums and other car parts, may likely be able to take electronics for proper recycling as well. Or there may be other companies near by, worth a search.
Two things I have taken from my fathers advice: a pool is a hole in the ground you throw money into. A boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into endlessly. God bless the folks that really love them.
I know another very similar aphorism but this is a family channel and I can't float it here but it has to do with something that flies, or floats . . . and renting. Likewise my father's advice.
I like it! I think that's a much more "manageable" boat, size-wise. I think in the long term, the giant Carver is the sort of boat you pick a lake for, put it in, and leave it there, whereas this new one is small enough that you can move it around to where you want it. I know quite a few folks who have taken that approach with big vs small boats.
You have one of Bayliners most successful models, my last boat was the model after this (242 ) . I am sure you will be happy with it. The only problem I had with the design was the dreaded 'monkey fur' interior lining as we called it. It tends to suffer from UV disintegration and drop white powder all over the place. Congratulations. 👌
The 15hp outboard is called a kicker motor typically used for trolling (fishing). I have used mine to get in when I had main motor trouble more than once. I have the same linkage rod between my motors as well.
When you’re a mechanic all of the big things that ruin a boat owner’s experience just become little obstacles that are usually easily fixed. I’ve owned my boat for about 7 years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I bought it knowing it needed an engine and after a few days of work, it’s been smooth sailing!
@@pdennis93 I worked for six years at West Marine, known for their outrageous price mark ups. Employees had a different version of the saying. After a customer left the store, having spent all their money, we would shake our heads and say "Bend Over And Take it".
Yeah, boating on the lake! Have done some myself on L. Travis, Conroe & others here in Tx. Love it & you & the Ms. no doubt deserve some recreation after the hard work w/the shop & video show. Lookin' forward to some lake footage & the new yacht & your enjoyment of. Have a great summer & I will keep watching.
I have always loved these cabin cruisers and small fishing yachts. The second outboard motor is mainly used for cruising in and out of the marina, it will save you excess wear and tear on the inboard motor and save fuel.
Wizard would replace fuel filters before launching. Make sure your gas tanks are not full of junk. Also important to make sure your thru hulls are in good working order. Make sure they are not brittle or leaking. If they fail, your swimming. Enjoy the summer
Using the livewell as an ice trough should be just fine as long as it drains and you sanitize it. (All they do when working is push air into the water like a micro jacuzzi.)
Looks to be very nice deal, two engines in great condition assume, a newer looking trailer, need to check stern drive, that with the hull and basic functioning controls was well worth the price. You have to decide if you want to replace the control panel and redo the interior if you keep it. The only reason the interior looks kind of rough is that it was stored without dehumidifying and then the mould takes hold. It's an over nighter, weekender at most, but very nice because you can haul it out and not pay for a slip (huge savings). The name should be "Wizard."
Good to diversify what you show. For your next boat perhaps select a speeder and you’ll attract lots of high power boats to the shop. This kind of thing is ideal for now through fall.
Bayliner is a good starter boat package I don’t know what they are currently, but back in the 80’s certain models had weak hulls, great for fresh water, bad for salt, or really rough water rather, the Puget Sound where I grew up ate Bayliners for lunch. I was around boats heavily and our port fixed boats especially commercial fishing rigs they fixed a lot of Bayliners having the expertise to save a hull from the scrap heap saved many a guy and his insurance company.
Yeah, make sure the bilge blower works as you said, many boat fires are caused by non working bilge blower and blows when the engine starts if gas is present...

I have the same mercury but mine is a 9.9. I love it, mine is a 2003 and I have had zero issues. I use a fuel additive or non ethanol when available. I do regular oil changes and change my lower unit oil every other years.
My dad had a Bayliner. Damn thing never worked ( Force outboard) and eventually he sold it and the new guy took it out once and sunk. The build quality was horrible.
My Step-Dad has an old Bayliner from the late 80s with the 5.0 cobra engine. That thing has the most 80s looking gauge cluster like it was straight out of the movie Tron or something.
Wizard, if you're going to frequent the ramps this summer you should install an electric winch on the front of the Infinity. It will pay for itself two fold with merely one incident. The boat ramp where I'm at had D-rings embedded into the cement just for this reason. They have save countless vehicles from turning into flood SUV/trucks.
Re: LIvewell. A Livewell aerates water to keep the fish alive while you keep them (until you're ready to filet them). Fishing tournaments require the fish be alive at weigh-in. Texas Parks and Wildlife uses live-wells with Oxygen injectors when they stock lakes and streams (they can keep more fish in the same volume). If you're just immediately releasing fish, no need for the live well.
OMG the Wizard got a binliner! Those upper through hulls are most likely vents for your tanks. My boat is well over 7 tons dry. It would be a serious job to tow.
Word to the wise do not put the transducer on the trim tab. There will be so much water turbulence coming off that trim tab you will not get the depth sounder to read the depth of the water. I suggest about 6 to 8 inches towards the outdrive on the hull itself is where you should be mounting the transducer for the depth sounder. Current marine parts and service manager and former marina owner here, since 1983.
him what car to buy, and then buy some stupid fiat instead of the Toyota wizard told them to buy. If he'd have consulted just one single knowledgeable boat guy, he'd have ended up with a Sea Ray like every single person who bought a Bayliner, then watched it sit in the mechanics yard 9 months out of the year and then realize Bayliners suck.
It depends on which Bayliner. The smaller ones are usually the ones that you here problems w the most. But, if you're a do mechanic and can diy you'll be fine.
Think about adding a removable floor panel to make those large inside step downs less dramatic. Maybe 2x4's on edge with carpeted plywood.would be enough. Could be used as another small storage space? The best thing you can do with a boat is use it, otherwise the electrical connections will rust up, especially if you store it at a dock..

The only thing better than owning a boat is having a buddy that owns a boat. 😁
Love it! Hope y'all have an excellent summer cruising around the lake on it!
Y’all, y’all, y’all. Can we be done with that already?
@@mikek5298 nope 🤠
Yeah, boating on the lake! Have done some myself on L. Travis, Conroe & others here in Tx. Love it & you & the Ms. no doubt deserve some recreation after the hard work w/the shop & video show. Lookin' forward to some lake footage & the new yacht & your enjoyment of. Have a great summer & I will keep watching.
Wizard we really appreciate videos like this one keep them coming very informative
I have always loved these cabin cruisers and small fishing yachts. The second outboard motor is mainly used for cruising in and out of the marina, it will save you excess wear and tear on the inboard motor and save fuel.
Learned so much about cars/trucks and now a few boat stuff from the Wizard. Motorcycles next?
Wizard would replace fuel filters before launching. Make sure your gas tanks are not full of junk. Also important to make sure your thru hulls are in good working order. Make sure they are not brittle or leaking. If they fail, your swimming. Enjoy the summer
All my experience with Bayliners are positive. Enjoy the water, quickly.
Using the livewell as an ice trough should be just fine as long as it drains and you sanitize it. (All they do when working is push air into the water like a micro jacuzzi.)
Buying another boat just so he can go yachting with his favorite customer this summer.
This is what we call VIP customer service lol
I'm so happy for you and Mrs Wizard. You guys seem like you're doing so well
Call the cockpit the "poop" deck if that was a deep bucket under the Captain's chair. LOL 😂
5 gallons is not a bad holding tank for just the captain.
@@inquisitive980 Depends on how much Taco Bell the Captain eats before going on the water. LOL. 😂
Call it "Hoovie II"
Looks a great little boat, looking forward to seeing the updates for this boat, keep this and flip the carver
It is actually not that uncommon for yacht owners to buy an interim vessel whilst their main one is in the process of being commissioned....
Probably not the first to say this (and I do so with the utmost respect to the Car Wizard) but Mrs. Wizard is a babe! Good for you Car Wizard!
By fall I predict both boats will be for sale.
Good to diversify what you show.
For your next boat perhaps select a speeder and you’ll attract lots of high power boats to the shop. This kind of thing is ideal for now through fall.
Need to clean that fabric on the walls and seats with a dry foam upholstery cleaning product.
Yes Jellybean has to be it. My parents just bought a kitten and named it Jellybean.
Yeah, make sure the bilge blower works as you said, many boat fires are caused by non working bilge blower and blows when the engine starts if gas is present...

Greatest couple on youtube & Their fans are here for it!
The guy fished thats why he has a little outboard for trolling and all the rod holders.
Maybe. It's a Bayliner, so he probably wanted a backup engine and something to do while he waited to get to shore after it breaks!
I also watched the video
Nice little Bayliner. Steering will be heavy on the auxiliary 15hp without the main engine running!
Hmm, you own 2 boats & live in Kansas. Um, huh. Lakes in August, so bathtub warm...yuk!
I have the same mercury but mine is a 9.9. I love it, mine is a 2003 and I have had zero issues. I use a fuel additive or non ethanol when available. I do regular oil changes and change my lower unit oil every other years.
Be sure you follow the process if changing the name of the vessel. You don't want bad luck to follow you.
@@cirtapseven3742 Dont forget any lanyards with keys too. Some people forget those items too.
I'm still in awe of this work shop! WOW
Excellent choice in boat. The everyday mini yacht 🛥 and it’s a fishing boat kinda neat. Well done.
I like how you call the previous owner “customer” when you talk about the rain water in the bottom. Habit I guess 😀
Bayliner is like the Yugo of boats.
Yeah but some Yougo could actually drive out of the dealership!!!When you buy a Bayliner you better buy a sea tow membership!!!!!
Still just as fun
Do bayliners float?
@@313barrygmail how about a searay 351w Omc ,restoring it and installing a 15 hp kicker I may need it lolol
Yep the cheap junk of the boating world
Re: LIvewell.
Wizard is always so happy. I'd bet he's a joy to live with.
OMG the Wizard got a binliner!
Those upper through hulls are most likely vents for your tanks.
My boat is well over 7 tons dry. It would be a serious job to tow.
Connect Wizard's phone to Hoovie's boats' bluetooth and keep changing his music selection.
Pink Floyd always wins 🤘
@@Asantenanna could wind him up with some Crazy Frog and the Barbie Song lol
Word to the wise do not put the transducer on the trim tab. There will be so much water turbulence coming off that trim tab you will not get the depth sounder to read the depth of the water. I suggest about 6 to 8 inches towards the outdrive on the hull itself is where you should be mounting the transducer for the depth sounder. Current marine parts and service manager and former marina owner here, since 1983.
One thing I told my kids when they were growing up - "NEVER buy a Bayliner!"
him what car to buy, and then buy some stupid fiat instead of the Toyota wizard told them to buy.
If he'd have consulted just one single knowledgeable boat guy, he'd have ended up with a Sea Ray like every single person who bought a Bayliner, then watched it sit in the mechanics yard 9 months out of the year and then realize Bayliners suck.
Lol literally the worst boat ever! Wizard is never allowed to say anything about people who ask him
Bayliner...! Oh, no Weeezard...! Sell it asap and get a SeaRay before you have to test all your life jackets when the hull cracks. Jeez, Weez!
You know why they call em Bayliners? Because the bottom of the bay is lined with them:)
It depends on which Bayliner. The smaller ones are usually the ones that you here problems w the most. But, if you're a do mechanic and can diy you'll be fine.
Ice and drinks work perfectly in the live well. My friend's parents have a big Pontoon boat, lots of alcohol can fit inside them.
most people say the best days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and sell it and now youve got a second
