Love seeing how everyone is doing something during the practice. I coach against many-coaches who don't apply this philosophy during their practices, and it shows on the field as their players miss the necessary reps.

I'd love advice on how to run an effective practice when you have 14 kids, one coach and one parent willing to help who has no experience, and the equipment you are allotted consists of 20 baseballs, one set of catching equipment and no tees or net barriers.

This is actually my situation this year. I have hs and college coaching experience in Football and hs experience in wrestling. I will be doing middle school baseball this year as well. If i can come up with something efficient i can make a video and send you a link. What’s a good email?

Good examples of drills with less manpower. Efficient!! Volunteering is a labor of love. You don't need to be a pro baller to give back... good job coaches! Thank you for your humbleness and love for the game. Nurture the roots!!!!

This is a great idea. As a parent with kids playing this past Spring I sat there watching kids just standing on the field while the coach pitched endlessly waiting for the kid to hit it to someone. Kids were bored, started screwing around, and if the ball did come their way, they weren't paying attention. I'm going to volunteer to coach this year. I'm using this idea. Thanks!

I'm doing the exact same thing this year. I have played alot of baseball growing up in the military moving around. The best teams I played on always had more than one drill and kept you rotating every ten 15 minutes. I loved those practices. Than you had teams that would only practice one drill at a time and only game scenarios. Rather than stations and always moving. I'm going to be trying some of these.

I'm glad you have an unlimited supply of coaches. In reality, most volunteer coaches are lucky to get 1 assistant so it's nearly impossible to have 12 different drills going on at the same time.

This always frustrated me when I was playing. I thought it was soo simple minded to have everybody stand in a line and hit them a grounder, then step to the back, and repeat. In a 2 hour practice, you took maybe 10 grounders and had 12 swings because most of the time you were standing in a line. Here players are constantly working, never standing still, never waiting..Brilliantly run practice.

Matt Connolly I know right, my current team when we practice we do a lot of conditioning so when our infield is done doing grounders for a round we do what we call a “fun break” where we do ab workouts pushups, ECT. And then we go get a drink come back out. And our outfield when they are done with their drills same as the infield they do what we call a “fun break” witch ab workouts, pushups, ECT. Eventually infielders go hit, outfielders take fly balls, then outfielders and infielders hit. We somehow fit that into a 3 hour practice.

Great video! Thank you. Just thinking the boys hitting the tee should have a net set up for them in order to protect them from a foul line drive to right. 🙏🙏🙏

The coach in this video went on to become the assistant coach for The Texas Rangers in May of 2018! To my knowledge he will be back in 2019

This is a nice set up to keep everybody working. Thanks for the video.
My only critique is a question... How many coaches and players behind the foul lines would be hit by foul balls if the whole country did this?

That's great. What do the pitchers and catchers do then? Or do you not have regular pitchers and catchers? Or do you just cover pitching and catching after the stations are done?

Was I the only one waiting for the coach at the tee drill station, to get hit with a foul ball?

I came here to say this!
Active practice! Put 2 kids and 2 coaches in danger of getting wrecked in the face with a foul ball. Also, dont forget to use your complimentary L-Screen on your designated field. SMH

If you are late and are hitting foul balls in bp....you shouldn't be playing baseball

Looks a little dangerous for the ones hitting off the tee. Just rotate the screen and the exercise so their not vulnerable to being hit by a ball coming off of the bat from the player at the plate.

Sebastian J. Payan that is retarded they might hit it far or they might catch it is no reason for the screen

    • @kylesmith50

While it's not as optimal, the kids at the tees can place their own balls. If you have a pitching machine you could use it to pitch to the batter, and then have one coach in the outfield throwing and the other behind the plate throwing. If you don't have a pitching machine you may just have to do the best you can and have one coach pitch and the other behind the plate throwing to both the infield and outfield.

You should not be doing soft-toss 20 feet from home plate during active batting practice. A hard foul ball will take that kid out

The second I saw that kids back hand flying off the bat I knew this guy had nothing to teach me, or anyone else for that matter. Got a kid on a tee flopping his bat around all over the place during his load, no one telling him to keep his hands still and just pick an angle for the bat that works best for his hand speed.

Unsafe practice. Should not be doing live hitting with hardballs with players in other drills within range.
