Tonite on Pyro Gear: James uses a crappy xbox 360 microphone, Hammond dives through the air with all the grace of an eagle piloting a blimp and Jeremy gets addicted to painkillers
About the Chow Yun Fat line, it's an homage to the HongKong actor who starred in a movie "The Killers" which includes a shoot-dodge; a bullet-time like sequence that inspired the dev to make Max Payne
It's not just The Killer, it's virtually most of John Woo's influential Hong Kong films - Hard Boiled, A Better Tomorrow, The Killer. They based it off not just that film, but all of these. They're all referenced in the game in some way, with Hard Boiled being one of the game's difficulty settings. It's a key part of John Woo's style of action that somewhat extended to his work in Hollywood too, with Hard Target and Face/Off. So, while that particular sequence was one of the inspirations, it was also all of the other original Heroic Bloodshed films that John Woo made.
19:47 holy fuck that scream. Still can't wrap my head around the fact that past Pyro (before he started streaming regularly) would never let out such primal emotions, and now we have this. Can't complain though.
Just completed the trilogy last week for the first time. My thoughts on one is that it’s the best in terms of being a modern noir, but its difficulty scaling, while innovative, were unfortunately trying very hard to be innovative. In summary: the better you do, the tougher enemies get, more health, more damage, better accuracy, etc. the only problem is that your accuracy is penalized as the difficulty scales. This makes shotguns completely fucking useless even at point-blank range because the enemies now have way more health and are being hit by less pellets. The only way the difficulty goes down is if you die repeatedly. If you’re not quick saving your way through each level, the first Max Payne will triple in length.
That is why you should play Max Payne 1 on the other difficulties after completing the "easy" difficulty. You literally cut yourself from the best difficulties the game has to offer bro

It has been a while since I actually put a Pyrolive video in my liked videos playlist. The last one was him playing Hunt Down the Freeman 3 years later on stream.
@@aldrichhf35 oh yeah I forgot about that, bullet time is now infinite so there's no drawback/downside, unlike the first one where you had to know when and how to use it, cause it was the only advantage from Max since he's just a regular guy But when I say that bullet time was nerfed in MP2 is because it isn't as slow as the first one, so it's more of a slow motion than actual bullet time
Pyro finally knows why the developer decided to call their game and protagonist's name "Max Payne", because it sums up on the game's overall gameplay experience so far
When Max said "It's payne'n time" and then proceeded to payne all the enemies was truly beautiful. I broke down in tears and had to take a break for 30 minutes to allow my mind to process what I had just witnessed. And with that I give it a Pain/10. Definitely one of the videogames of all time.
It's crazy to me that somehow noone in the chat made him aware that you cannot die during the bullet-time dodge dive thing. You can literally dive on top of nades and make it out with 1hp. It makes the bullshit corner camping and nade spamming enemies much more bearable.
This has to be my favorite PyroLIVE video. The mic quality brings me back to when I was just a little 7 year old watching Yamimash scream at Slendytubbies.
The first playthrough of Max Payne is always the toughest, as there are beginner's traps in practically each level. Combat is still tight, though. Especially with all the mods built for the base game over the years. And oh yeah, the cut-scene at 16:32 was mysteriously omitted from the Xbox Port of the game, wonder why...
What's more amazing was how Pyro kept dying over and over on the easiest difficulty lol Also, I may have been the one to start the 1984 spam when Naked was banned
This game IS in fact: Easy! Even on the hardest difficulty! The key ingredient to make it a breeze is to abuse the shit out of dodge-rolling, as if you're playing Dark Souls. Also, the Dual Ingram outclasses every other weapon, including the singular Ingram.
The reason that the game gets so hard after a while is because it has uncapped adaptive difficulty. The better you do the more health the AI has and the less health you have. I believe that the AI also gets more accurate and has a lower response time but that could be exclusive to Max Payne 2.
Aside from McCaffrey, everyone knew that the voice-acting was cheesy at the time. Better than most, but by in large, still cheese. Unless you were a kid, in which case, maybe not.
The gameplay of this game is so good, that even a terrible mobile port that removes your ability to crouch and zoom in with the sniper for no reason (two things that are absolutely necessary for several sequences, including the final mission), can’t make it not fun to play.
