      It is always a great thing when a young person has someone like
      a grandfather/grandmother type.
      So much can be learned from senior citizens. When a young person realizes that being old does NOT mean older people do not have anything to offer .. in fact it means that young person has the probability of being a loving & giving person. The amount of wisdom in those years lived ... enormous amount of knowledge and LIFE EXPERIENCES.. no better educational experience than that.

      I didn’t know anything about racism are what it stood for until I got in my high teens and I had friends of all colors and we always met in the middle of the trailer park just about everyday and played until dark are until our parents hunted us down.
      I was actually in a church group called Royal Rangers which is just like Boy Scouts and I invited all my friends to it know matter there color. Matter of fact the number one person I invited was James and he was black.
      The number of problem is the politics and media. They do everything to keep us divided so they will have unlimited amount of power.

    • @jonathandevereaux298
      @jonathandevereaux298 2 года назад +2

      You can't say racism is taught because it would have had to have started somewhere. We are taught to see differences and when we are insecure we attack people who are different to boost our self esteem. Racism isn't some super evil it is structurally the same as people hating on the elderly, fat, bald or whatever. In Japan and India they do it based on ancestry but look the same. Humans who are unhappy look for differences to tear others down. When you bring someone down it appears you are being lifted up.

      Unfortunately, our world and much of our news and programming on tv continues to try to show a difference in color, sexual orientation and religion. People think that if it isn't discussed it won't change but it's just the opposite. As long as we point out differences or give groups of people special attention or special treatment kids are always going to grow up seeing those differences. Simple things like Alicia Keys "Shine, shine my black sunshine!" commercials on Nickelodeon.... Some people will say "Wow, that's a great positive message for young black kids" but my son, who is 4 years old, white and doesn't recognize color of skin as a difference among people said to me "I don't get it, the sun is yellow. It isn't even black." So do I explain to my 4yo that they are talking about the little kids being black and then also explain to him why they are called black and not brown, that brown is reserved for another ethnic group? Then when he asks why she is asking the black kids to shine and why they get to shine but he doesn't do I go into detail, again with a 4yo and explain to him how African Americans were treated over history and how in some areas they are still seen as different or lesser than other people or repressed? Why does he need to be told or taught that when he should be the one who is doing the teaching. Teaching adults how to not see color and just seen another kid on TV. It is never going to get better, ever, by pointing out differences even if you don't think you are doing it to divide...

    • @AB-ol5uz
      @AB-ol5uz 2 года назад +3

      It's not a question of not seeing color - of course, people/kids see color - but they don't see color as a filter of whether someone is good or bad. It's just a part of who they are, and part of what makes them interesting, unique, and beautiful as a person.

    The last scene in that video always hits me the hardest and maybe it is just my interpretation but I see it that just when the boy was hurting the most, the old man blew those pages of the Bible aside to reveal the picture of his wife and baby as if to say, "Don't cry for me, I am home with my wife and baby" So even in death he was helping the boy.

    @ Asia And BJ
    I was born and raised in Detroit. I was a bit over a year old when the 1967 riots happened. It was the summer Detroit was on fire. We were one of only 3 white families in our neighborhood all the other families were black, but you know what? While most of the city was turning against each other because of skin color, our neighborhood drew closer together. We worked even hard to take care of each other, to care more for each other, to watch over and protect each other that much more.
    Whatching your videos remind me so much of this beautiful couple that actually did live down the street from the house I grew up in. They were in their lare 30s to early 40s when I was a kid and I always liked helping out around their house. Kohn loved building homemade telescopes and had a passion for astronomy. Mary loved her vegetable garden behind their garage. I learned so much from the both of them. And just like this story I grew up, graduated high school in 1984, joined the military and became a military police officer. After basic training, the police academy, infantry school and gunners specials school I was stationed in Germany 85-87. I didn't come home on leave until April of 86. My parents had divorced as I was the last kid to leave the house and I was told that the house was sold to split the assets between my parents. I had went back to the neighborhood when I was on leave just to look around. Most all the adults and kids that lived there had moved out and new people and families had moved in. People looked at me strange for 2 reasons:
    1)I was white in a now all black neighborhood.
    2) I was was wearing my class As dress uniform.
    Peoe asked me lots of question and I explained that I used to live there. I went to John and Marys house and there was a lady about my age in the front yard, I asked if she knew John or Mary and found out she was Marys niece. She told me that both had passed a few years back and asked how I knew them. I told her who I was. She looked at me with a smile and crying and said she had been looking for me for a while. Angela, her name, had taken me in the house and I was so amazed house everything was the same. Angela took me down into the basement and showed me a telescope that John and I had built together. When I was a kid. Angela told me that John had passed first and then Mary less than a year later. Mary had left the house to Angela because they had no children of their own. Apparently in the will Jihn wanted me to have the twlescope we built together along with a letter Mary wrote to me.
    She wrote that they both loved me so much and regretted not having children of their own, but were so grateful that I gave them a chance to experience being parents everytime I'd visit.
    She ended her letter by telling me not to cry for them and if I ever miss them
    Point the telescope at the Northern Star and look up and I'd see them when ever I wanted. It's 2022, I'm 56 years old and. I still hane that wooded bx telescope with the hand polished lenses that John and I built and in an air tight sealed clead bag is the letter Mary wrote to me. And on a clear Phoenix night when all the stars can be seen I pull out that telescope point it towards the Northern Star and say hello to that wonderfully beautiful couple that the both of you remi d me so much of.
    Thank you so much for being such lovely people. I truley hope that you both have long lives filled with all the love and kindness you want.

    the story of the Garden of Eden is reflected in every person’s life. Children show us how it would be to live in the garden. Then, some where around puberty, we eat from the tree of knowledge and we turn. We reject everything we knew, we chase flesh (fig leaves) and are tricked into believing things of this world is what’s important. If we listen to our own hearts, we know there’s something better, because we all started there. Love

We lived in the south in different bases, and had many friends of color, religion. Back in 1968 we had a very good female a African - american friend, and expierenced racism. We remained friends for many years until her unfortunate passing. Mom and dad are in heaven now. We raised our adult children, to be respectful of everyone, regardless of race, religion, or sexual preferences. Unfortunately today their is so much hate and racism in our country, so sad.

    I was truly blessed with a similar childhood. I thank God for my parents asking Constance, my guardian/nanny/my angel, to babysit my two brothers and me daily growing up. I thank God even more that she accepted the challenge of having to spend long days until the evenings sometimes with three boys. She could control us with such a calm loving voice that our parents had no chance of that happening with my parents, lol. Although a good switch I would have to pick myself sometimes worked pretty well 😄. We loved Constance so much that we just didn't want to disappoint her in any way. I remember needing stitches in my face after a face plant sitting on one of my brother's handle bars and sticking my foot in front wheel, ha. By the time I got to the house and Constance saw my face, shirt, and bike covered in blood with me screaming, she called my parents first but then did something I've cherished for 45 years and will never forget. She took out her Bible she always carried and read scripture from, put one hand on me and held her Bible in the other praying over me until mom got home to take me to the ER. But it only took a few seconds for my crying and screaming to stop as my angel calmed me. Thank you, mom, for giving me my second mom. Constance, I love and miss you and can't wait to see you again!

    When I was a little boy back in the mid-60s, I loved going to my grandparent's 16 acre pecan orchard in Fairhope, Alabama. A black family who lived a 2-3 miles up the dirt road the farm was on (The nearest neighbors!), had some cattle that they kept on my grandparents' orchard. Every day "Mr. Alfa" and his 5 boys would drive an old pickup truck into the orchard, the bed of that old truck was full of corns husks. They would pull in front of the house, honk the horn to call me out and would run like the wind and get into the bed of that old truck with the boys, drive out to the orchard and we would throw the husks out to the cattle. Mr.Alfa, the father, and his 5 boys, one who had been badly burned and scarred in a house fire years earlier, and me, this 7 year old white kid, must have been quite a sight in the back of that old pickup tossing husks and laughing in southern Alabama in 1967~1968. We never looked at each other through the lenses of race, we all just had a good friendship and good times together.
    Every time I see this video I remember "Mr. Alfa" and his boys, Mr Alfa looked a lot like the old man in this video.

    When I lived in Norfolk, Virginia, my 2 youngest sons had THE BEST first grade teacher…. On older southern Black woman.(we are white). She had her own way of teaching and all the kids loved her. I’m now 67, Mrs Rebecca just turned 89 and we are still the best of friends. She always thinks of my family as her own, and we think of her the same way. Over 33 years of friendship. Color never mattered to us in the south. We didn’t feel real discrimination until we moved to Ohio. My daughter has mixed race children and many people looked down on her for it.

I agree with BJ in that we definitely need more music and stories like this nowadays.

    song reminds me a bit of my paternal grandfather, a sharecropper from south Georgia, adopted during the depression from a family that had too many kids by one that didn't have enough(we still aren't positive of our family tree on his side past him) he took his bride early and moved her to Jacksonville Fla, found a place to sharecrop and built a shack out of scrap wood, he was the only white sharecropper on this farm, im born in 1965 and remember (barely) going out there to his house (which was bigger by then but still a clapboard affair with an outhouse and a hand pumped well with water that tasted of Sulphur as most of the wells there did then. he used to give me cigar boxes for me to keep my crayons in. i remember his enjoyment of watching us( me and the other kids from the farm) play "chunk the wicket" (kind of a cross between guard the fort and hide and seek) and other games, i was the only white kid, nobody gave a crap one way or another, apparently when you have next to nothing , the thing that kept you from having nothing was having neighbors. i turn 56 tomorrow, these memories are over 50 years old now and not as fresh as i wish they still were, i see the people as blurs, i remember the actions but not the faces, the thing that is Crystal Clear however is that i learned the greatest lesson i could have ever been taught; we are all Gods Children and equal in His Eyes. up to this day, when im working i sweat, side by side with people who sweat side by side with me, and none of us care the slightest that our sweat might mix.
