Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash. Four all time greats. From when country sounded like country, not today's pop music disguised as country.
Love em all, but Waylon has my heart! He was the one who began the outlaw music because he refused to compromise to Nashville telling to change his music.
Johnny Cash went from rock-N-roll to Country, Joined up with the other 3 and, they were considered as outlaws! Johnny got kicked out of the Grand Ole Opry for being high and kicking the stage lights out!
Although he is not blood related to Waylon Jennings, Struggle grew up as though he was. He even spent his summers growing up working on his Grandpa Waylon's road crew; Kris Kristofferson by the way has mostly been acting in his later years, he's the old man in the Blade movie series with Wesley Snipes.
Ever since I first heard this, I've been partial to Kris Kristofferson's verse over the others. I'd like a whole 3 minute song about him being a sailor haha. Underrated country artist in my opinion.
Appreciating this song requires the use of your imagination, and possibly hearing it more than one time without interruptions. It also helps to be a bit familiar with the iconic singers doing each "incarnation". Fabulous song.
The Jennings family puts the soul in music and I love that Asia recognized it. Music unites everyone and Coutry's Mount Rushmore proves the past matters
Most people know Kris Kristofferson from his acting career, especially "A Star Is Born" with Barbara Streisand. He also is a very accomplished songwriter, he wrote "Me and Bobby McGee" most notably known version was Janis Joplin.
Kris had a pretty good music career in the seventies. Probably his best known songs were Loving Her Was Easier Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again and Why Me Lord. Sammy Smith had a huge hit with Kris' Help Me Make It Through the Night. He also wrote Sunday Morning Coming Down that Johnny Cash had a hit with.
Who here hasn't seen Blade and Blade 2 with Wesley Snipes? They've all seen Chris Christopherson. haha, He's Snipes partner. Great actor too, on top of everything else.
That's right BJ, Waylon is the OG! You two are awesome, Waylon 2 days in a row! Struggle's mom is Jennifer Eddy. Jessi Colters first marriage was with Duane Eddy and that's their daughter. Waylon raised Jennifer as his own. In some live shows in the 80s she sang on stage with Waylon. Listen to Silver Stallion by The Highwaymen is also a great song.
Kristofferson was an officer in the US Military an air force brat from a military family. He was also a Rhodes Scholar and taught at The Naval academy in Annapolis. He gave al that up to plug songs in Nashville.
If you want to see stage chemistry between these guys check them out live at Nassau Coliseum, it's class. I discovered it back in February and haven't had it off since.
Again.... Struggle was not adopted, he is the son of Waylon's adopted daughter Jennifer Eddy Jennings which is the real daughter of Waylon's wife Jessie Colter from her first marriage to Duane Eddy
What I love about outlaw country, waylon, willie, Johnny, Merle haggard, etc. is the rhythm. The beat, the kick drum. The bass. There’s a groove to it. I’ve always loved that.
One of the very first songs I learned the lyrics to when I was younger.. I love this song to this very day.. sitting here typing and singing along.. Willie, Kris, Waylon and Johnny.. That opening from Johnny "I fly a starship".. gives me goosebumps every time..
Same here. And his voice hits so much differently for me than the rest. He's always been my favorite artist of all time and his sounds resonates unlike any other artist for me.
The song was written by Jimmy Webb. It's about reincarnation; that's why each man sings a different verse. There's a concert version of the four of them singing it here on RUclips somewhere. Check it out.
Four of the greatest of all time. Kris Kristofferson is one of the greatest songwriters ever. Kris wrote the song Me and Bobbi McGee that was a huge hit for Janis Joplin, and so many other great songs. He did a lot of movies also as an actor. Back in the day there was a TV show called the Dukes of Hazzard. The hands they showed playing guitar in the theme song and singing it and also the voice narrating the show was Waylon Jennings. Waylon was supposed to be on the plane the night Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper were killed in a crash. He was part of Buddy's band then. He and another guy were asked to give up their seats so Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper could fly back. That crash is what Don Mclean was singing about in the song American Pie when he said the day the music died. Oh and no, the song had nothing to do with the American Pie movies.
This is my favorite country song. Cash, Nelson, Jennings, and Kristofferson were all good on their own, but the four of them together, coupled with what are incredibly esoteric lyrics for country music, create an utterly unmatched atmosphere.
Kris Kristofferson is a great songwriter for other people - "Me and Bobby McGee" (Janis Joplin), "For the Good Times" (award winner for Ray Price, WHO YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY LISTEN TO - 'Night Life' is killer), "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" (Johnny Cash), and "Help Me Make It Through the Night" (Sammi Smith) among others, and recorded "Why Me, Lord" and "Loving Her was Easier"....THEN he started acting.
Struggle Jennings is the step grandson of Waylon Jennings, but he is the biological grandson of Waylon's wife Jessi Colter. His biological grandfather was instrumental rock guitarist Duane Eddy. Jessi Colter was an amazing singer you should check out her music as well. Kris Kristofferson starred in A Star Is Born in the 1970's with Barbra Streisand. He also wrote several country songs. He wrote Sunday Morning Coming Down which he performed and Johnny Cash made famous when he covered it.
I also just learned that "Struggle Jennings" is a stage name. He is Jessi Colter's grandson and therefore Waylon's step-grandson so he isn't a Jennings at all. He is Shooter Jennings' nephew and that's as close as it gets. Y'all should really watch the live at Nassau Coliseum version to really appreciate this song and these artists. ❤️ Waylon 4ever ❤️
Hopefully this leads you guys to more Willie and the boys (a lyric from one of their songs). Willie is awesome. He and Ray Charles have a song (Seven Spanish Angels) that you all will love and checkout Hazeville. It's a song about Willie's legendary pot smoking. He and Waylon did an entire album together. That group of guys that played together a lot and covered each other's songs all the time. Waylon has a lot of great songs too and we all know about Cash. Kristoferrson has some good tunes but when his acting career took off he didn't spend as much time with the music.
Kris Kristofferson wrote a little known song you may have heard called Me and Bobby McGee. He was also an instructor at West Point Naval Academy and a Rhodes Scholar. He gave all that up to sing and write songs. And the world has benefited from his excellent choice
I got to see the Highwaymen in Vegas in the 90's, that is when I was lucky enough to meet Waylon, talked to him for about 20 minutes, nicest Man i have evva met, that was the hi-lite of my life!!! I met Kris also but it was at Calamity Janes a little Bar in Vegas. Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash!!!! Yep!
The part about the sailor hits me the most because I actually do that for a living and it reminds me of how it can all be over in a second if i do something wrong or if I'm not careful enough.
Waylon Jennings said the theme song for Dukes of Hazzard tv show. Kris started as singer but known mostly for his acting. The movie Convoy really got him noticed
I loved all 4 of these men but I grew up on Waylon Jennings' music and I still listen to him today. His style and voice has never been matched, a true original and genuine badass. He was taken too soon from us but I can't blame God for that, I would have wanted to listen to that voice for eternity too
“This is the Real, Real, country…!” It sure is my friends! These are the original bad boys of country! And we we Love them all!.. Ps…Kris Kristopherson wrote the song “Piece of my Heart”- that Janis Joplin made into an anthem!

Kris Kristofferson was Janis Joplin’s boyfriend. He wrote the song “Me and Bobby McGee” and he didn’t know that Janis recorded it until he heard it on the radio after she died. He has also acted in movies too,
William Harness (born May 31, 1980), professionally known as Struggle Jennings, is an American rapper from Nashville, Tennessee. He is the grandson of instrumental rock guitarist Duane Eddy, the grandson of country musician Jessi Colter, the step-grandson of Waylon Jennings.
Kris Kristofferson - the greatest songwriter ever - He is in the Songwriters Hall of Fame & the Country Music Hall of Fame- He has won 5 Grammy's, 2 Golden Globe for acting, Oscar nominated for Best Song for the movie Songwriter!!!! Waylon & Willie CHANGED country music! Willie's 4th if July Picinic's in Texas were legendary!!! Kris is a Bonafide living legend! Johhny Cash, Willie & Waylon - all legends in country music!!!
Written by the great Jimmy Webb who also wrote so many great songs for Glen Campell like "Galveston", "Wichita Lineman", "MacArthur Park", and many others.
Kris K. wrote and sang Bobby McGee made famous by Janis Joplin, although he may not of been as accomplished in country music as the three other legends he was may more of a well rounded renaissance man. He was an accomplished chopper pilot, semipro boxer, Rhodes Scholar (very difficult) and most famously an actor. He wanted to be famous so he got a job at the largest recording studio in Nashville as a janitor, he gave Johnny Cash a demo tape and he never heard anything so he borrowed a helicopter and flew it to Johnny Cash's house and landed in his back yard asking "have you listened to my tape yet" lol. He is a TRUE LEGEND and an American Icon. ALSO not to mention he was the one who found the greatest song writer of ALL TIME and gave him his first record deal, maybe you've heard of John Prine? Please review any of the following John Prine songs; Angel from Montgomery, Sam Stone, Speed of the sound of loneliness, inspite of our selves, please review John Prine, you won’t be sorry and I bet you would get a ton of likes since not many youtubers have yet!
Kris Kristofferson as an actor also stared in the movie "Convoy" --- based on the song "Convoy" by C.W. McCall. don't use the movie version of the song but and OG of the song. just they changed it to fit the movie. :( it became the truckers protest song back in the 70's when Carter lowered the speed limit from 75mph to 55mph. and at that time as well many police juridictions hated all truckers and would profile them. and pull them over for any little reason. and it is considered a country song.
I’m so late to the game on this channel but I follow your other channel❤❤ A super girl group that is endorsed by Dolly was formed about two or three years ago, called the Highwomen. And they redid this song and change the lyrics from the female perspective of this time and it is so amazing. Sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida. I recently got my sister into your channel and she has been watching a Reelin’ with Asia and BJ nonstop for about two weeks now. 👏👏👏👏 yay woo hoo The Highwomen version of this song is freaking amazing studio and live their harmonies make my legs hairy / goosebumps
My great Aunt lived next to Willie on lake Austin in the 90s. He was super cool. He'd come over to play guitar, eat mushrooms and smoke dope. It was the property that was seized for tax evasion not too long after. Uncle Willie
Shocked you didn't know Kris Kristofferson! He has an extensive movie career along with country singing. "A Star Is Born" 1976, "Convoy", and "Blade" trilogy playing Whistler.
My favorite DJ radio entry to this song: "individually they may be the bad boys of country, together they are a force to be reckoned with, Waylon, Willie, Johnny and Kris, Highwaymen.
Look up the few songs Kris sang. He wrote most of the music that came out from the 60’s to the 90’s. Was the main guy in the original “A Star is Born”.

The second singer is highly talented Chris Christopherson, a Rhodes scholar, Vietnam chopper pilot etc, he was in Blade with Snipes. Yeah the old partner he had is singing in this song!
This a favorite song of my and is part of Cassette/CD collection. Written by Jimmy Webb American songwriter the song is about a soul with incarnation in four different places in time and history: as a sailor, a construction worker on the Hoover Dam and finally as a captain on of starship.
Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash. Four all time greats. From when country sounded like country, not today's pop music disguised as country.
4 guys that got kicked out of Nashville and said I can make music anywhere making them the true outlaws of country.
Kris has good music but it more known as an actor
Kris is a Vietnam veteran, he was a helicopter pilot.
@@davidnunn6608 and a prolific song writer for many other artists, not just himself.
@@davidnunn6608 not true. He did some acting, but was already well known for his songwriting and musicianship.
The Part where Johnny sings I might come back as a single drop.rain really hits
For me it is Waylon's verse, but to each his own-
Love em all, but Waylon has my heart! He was the one who began the outlaw music because he refused to compromise to Nashville telling to change his music.
And there is a whole new crop of off Nashville outlaw country artists. Those not "commercial" enough to be mainstream radio pop crap country.
Sadly Nashville never changed. Listen to Buddy Brown and you’ll see how that dude gets ignored by Nashville
I love "Write Your Own Songs" where he and Willie mock "Mr. Music Executive."
Johnny Cash went from rock-N-roll to Country, Joined up with the other 3 and, they were considered as outlaws! Johnny got kicked out of the Grand Ole Opry for being high and kicking the stage lights out!
Waylon's voice was so haunting in this song. He was so badass. 🤘

Didn't realize that. They're relatives by marriage? I'm surprised because Struggle definitely has the voice. So does his daughter.
@@st0n3p0ny I thought I heard step grandson. Raised as their own. Waylon even slowed down his music career to be grandpa
My late husband's mother was Waylon's second cousin.
The four of them used to tour together now and again starting way back as early as 1951-52 timeframe.. A long history of rock and country...
Ever since I first heard this, I've been partial to Kris Kristofferson's verse over the others. I'd like a whole 3 minute song about him being a sailor haha. Underrated country artist in my opinion.
And has a pretty amazing real-life story...
i think Kris gets more recognition for his song writing and movies!
I always smile at the thought of coming back as a single drop of rain. Seems peaceful.
They are back again and again and again every time I listen to one of their classic hits
This is a fantastic tune. I'm glad you guys checked this out.
Appreciating this song requires the use of your imagination, and possibly hearing it more than one time without interruptions. It also helps to be a bit familiar with the iconic singers doing each "incarnation". Fabulous song.

Johnny Cash's song, " The Man in Black". Unfortunately the songs speaks of issues that we as a society still battle. Johnny had a social conscience.
