Most oppertunists don't have these, arguably the locks could be picked as well. Homeowners often have extra locks such as nightlatches and bolts to accomplain the mortise.
People are creatures of habit,if an opportunist noticed a key in a lock but didn't have means to exploit it, you can bet your arse that next week or next month the key will still be in the lock.
I notice that he does not turn the key fully when he locks it but turns it back a few degrees. I suspect that it might be secure if turned fully. More details needed.
What size pipe do you use for this to happen? As a family member tends to leave the key in the door and the carers can not enter to give care. I have had to get locks smiths out to do it. The family member often falls, the last time the person fell we had to get emergency services. They was going to break the door down but luckily the back window was open.
Sheet of paper, thread, scotch tape, and a nail should work, no? Tape thread to paper, slide paper under door, push key through with nail, and when you hear the key go "clank" on the ground, pull thread. (Must have a gap under door at least as tall as key is thick for this to work.)
@@forric23 I had an empty house where the front door had 3 large bolts on the inside as well as a mortice lock. I used to enter via the back door. Because the house was empty I ignored the electric bills and then ages later when I did revisit found the electric disconnected . The bolts had been withdrawn (via the letter box) and a new mortice lock fitted with keys left on the floor beside it. Moral is nothing is unpickable
You can buy ready made tools- or make your own. The one in this video is almost definitely home made- you can use several types of thick stiff wire, they tend to be made(and I _think_ this one is made) from piano wire and wire from other musical instruments.(some thick guitar strings etc) Get creative and always share your results! ☺
Most front doors now are UPVC doors but if I could put a 5 lever lock on one I would because a UPVC are easy to pick where a 5 lever lock is so much harder to pick or drill out the lock. PS IT'S TERIBLE NOW HOW EASY THESE NEW DOORS ARE EASY TO OPEN, UNDER 1 MINUTE
Yep, pin tumbler locks wont apply here but can be picked. Just make sure to get a good high security lock, anti snap, anti drill, might say anti pick but all can be although pin tumblers full of security pins or pin in pin (dimple locks) would likely put anyone off (a good lock woukd take a locksmith a good whioe to pick) let alone your average thief 👍
@@cardiffpicker1 Hinges were hidden. I tried picking the lock but finally gave up and spent $135 on a locksmith who picked it in about 1 minute, then made a new key for me.
Is there any different items you could use that are easier to get and more common in a house ?

@andrewj100 you could use a thumb turn mortice lock, such as the 6 lever wellington which ticks all the boxes
So should I leave the key in the lock after I've locked it???

This video saves lives.

It wouldn’t be secure, he’s left it askew slightly for a quick video although it would only take a few seconds more 😂

Hi, I have lost the keys to my mortise lock. Do you have any information on how I could remove it from my door?

@@RobbieHatley he said he lost the key (which happens to be the same problem I have). He's asking how to remove the LOCK from the door w/o a key.
Thank you.
as a further tip to people out there with wooden doors with mortice locks, add some big bolts to your door top and bottom, they can not be picked :O)
With the right tools they can
Cant bolt them from the outside though, so no good on a front door

Ok so I removed the key from the locked door but then I lost the key, so how do I open the door now w/o calling a locksmith??
Depends what hinges you have and if accessible, obviously way to late to be any use to you now though
