It's impossible to overstate the importance of blues music
Why not?
Agreed
knowledge of basic musical theory shows the enormous influence of blues on popular music till today.@@rman229
Come to Los Angeles Mexico. Anything considered American culture, or black for that matter is considered offensive to the millions of invaders that continue to force their way into our society, yet expect us to move aside and embrace their language, culture and music instead...
It all started with Classical..
Kingfish is not only a great guitar player, but he's got a powerful voice as well.
And a nice guy!
Thank you 60 minutes for helping to keep the Blues alive. Great story.
Yes. Thank you 60 minutes.
Saw Kingfish at a tiny venue in Denver a few years ago and he was just phenomenal. Cannot recommend him enough.
I have watched him online. When it comes to the blues, he is the best out there! And only 24 years old.
@@mikedovskytry Marcus King too.
I have seen him on youtube as well. He is just so talented. Great singer, songwriter guitarist. He's got it all!@@josephgallagher945
Tonight for me -- same recommendation to EVERYONE. Go see this man and his band.
I'm 37, been playing the blues for over 25 years now! Seeing this story come across my feed, gave me goosebumps, I still have them now while typing this!!
LONG LIVE THE BLUES! 💙
❤
I saw Kingfish at a bar on Frenchman street in NOLA about 5 years ago - just in a bar with a band, no cover - just folks having drinks. Dude TORE IT UP. I didn't quite know what i was seeing.
Blues is life. As long as there is life, there will be blues!
Word!!!
I love Morgan Freeman more and more. He, despite his fame, has to be the most down to earth celebrity on the planet. There is much to be admired about that man. He IS a national treasure whose life should be an inspiration to everyone.
Guess what… he’s also a licensed pilot 😮.
True story.
The reason Fairchild is “down to earth”, is because he worked hard at his craft and wasn’t discovered until late in life. He’s more than paid his dues.

😮😃 wow!!
I never knew that?!
I remember hearing about kingfish a few years back and thinking at that time this kid is incredible! So great to see him getting more exposure globally
He's getting better every time I see him. His playing and vocals are outstanding in this video and he's improved enormously.
The blues will never die, it's music we all can relate to.
I’ve seen Kingfish listed #1 on several “Best Guitar Players” alive today. Quite an accomplishment for a young 24 year old musician from Mississippi, so freakin awesome!
I can't say enough about my buddy and his great talent. He is the Blues man of this century. Buddy you are my Blues man from the first time I heard you.
This man is a absolute inspiration to me and his talent is overwhelming. These kinds of musical artists are to me more valuable than anything.
Saw this dude Kingfish open for Buddy Guy.
He the blew the Hollywood Bowl away.We have to support the blues.
Blues started it all. The true foundation of all popular western music.
When James Johnson says "I hear it and it sounds good to me and I play for the love of it."....thats the spirit that will insure that the blues will live forever. It's not pop music to be consumed by the masses. It's music that reaches out and grabs ahold of your soul and if you're lucky you let it. And if you don't...thats ok, it'll get you soon enough.
Blues still thrives around the country. Buddy guy,Robert cray, tito Jackson an others keep it alive.
Btw folks check out tito Jackson. He sings well. An yes tito from the Jackson 5
Gary Clark Jr bringing in younger folks.
Saw Kingfish in Australia last year. Nothing short of amazing.
I had no idea he toured overseas...I would have loved to see him over here!
Kingfish is amazing! saw him perform terrific!!
SRV rekindled wide interest in the blues in the '80s. The blues needs artists like Kingfish to draw in new generations of fans, and musicians.
I met Kingfish after he performed here in Michigan, yes we love him up here too!
I was Kingfish open for Buddy Guy in Memphis at the Orpheum. It was a hell of a show and Kingfish is an awesome Blues player.
well that saw a head fck?! LOL!
WOW!...When Morgan Freeman was asked about Blues music...I thought to myself "It has soul..."...and then said the same thing! This is powerful music...
I've lived in Webb, Tutwiler, & Indianola & we used to go to Clarksdale every weekend...Reds & Groundzero are fantastic places to hear real blues music..I miss Mississippi..It has its own beauty with its cotton fields & catfish farms...Long live the blues.
Born in Helena, AR. lived in Lula, MS. and went to school in Clarksdale, MS. My dad worked in Frairs Point, MS. Down here, you're born with the blues. It's in your blood. It's the poorest part of the country. Escaping this place is a miracle. Kingfish is an inspiration to all that it is possible to get out of here.
I found the “British Blues” in the 70’s. Loved it. Then went backwards to the likes of Muddy Waters and BB King, Albert King, etc. And love that too. Stevie, Jonny, and now Kingfish. Keep’m coming
British blues, lol.
Morgan F.is the absolute definition of an Icon and Gentleman,he will never happen again.
I can’t believe it took this long for a special on Kingfish. I’ve been listening to him for almost 6 years and have been sharing his music to all that will listen
This Kid is “The Heir” to the Blues Crown… Marcus King, Derek Trucks.. Lot’s of great stuff out there!
Don't forget Popa Chubby
I only knew Kingfish as a guitar player. Turns out he has a perfect voice too. Incredible talent and amazing skills.
Blues music is played everywhere. It's no where near dying. It's thriving, as always...
Saw him at the Orpheum in Phoenix. This young man and his band are among the finest in modern music. He's an absolute genius! But give him time. He'll get better.
This is the best 60 minutes interview I've seen in quite a long while. Reason being, Kingfish. The young man will only get better!
Mad respect!
Like King Fish said Blues aint going nowhere. The Blues is a feeling, down inside you, listen to that guitar oooh my lord. You can feel the soul coming out to tell the feeling of the story. The Blues makes me feel good, not sad. Kudos to Morgan Freeman for keeping the Blues alive at home, where it all started.
The Blues...the foundation of the human soul...without it we're just empty vessels!❤😊
LOVE this piece! My bucket list just got longer. I hope to see Kingfish perform & visit Clarksdale.
Doesn’t have to be in clarksdale.. he tours all over. I just saw him in austin TX. Incredible
Some of the ABSOLUTE BEST MUSIC God ever created!
Robert Johnson singing about going down to the crossroads gives me chills every time.
I saw Kingfish in little old Adelaide in South Australia, Australia, pretty much as far away from the Mississippi Delta as you can get. He was absolutely amazing. Just fantastic.
Voice is strong. This gent is a powerhouse. He’s right, blues ain’t goin’ nowhere.
I’m 25 and from Augusta Georgia. Soul music has always been integral. That man kingfish is something special LET ME TELL YOU!! I’ll be a life long fan. May peace and light be upon him!
Good luck and much success to you, Kingfish.
Love your style.
we saw Kingfish at Sweden Rock this year and he was incredible
Blues was also foundational to rock music as well.
Kingfish is an outstanding guitarist and vocalist, I hope he has a very successful musical career.
So proud of Kingfish. Been watching him since he was 12 years old.
Me too! He was a child prodigy. 💙
I saw Kingfish perform 2 years ago, that young man is a force of nature with a tone that is scorching and impeccable.
My grandparents actually grew up in the Clarksdale MS Delta..the spirit of the blues lives today
I’m from Australia and was recently in the US where I drove the Blues Highway through Tunica and Clarksdale. I visited Morgan Freeman’s “Ground Zero Blues Club” but unfortunately I didn’t get to see a show. I hope to get back there soon. I ❤ that area of Mississippi and Arkansas.
Have more shows like this keep the Blues music alive
I've been a Kingfish fan for a while. He's so talented. Articulate, and loaded with charisma. He's going to be one of the greats!
I’m very happy to know that New Face of the roots of the Blues is Kingfish…a young talented person on color from the south..Long Live The Blues..!🎸🎶
I spent two days down there once and enjoyed that place and club ebony .this wS several years before we lost Mr king.ive traveled the country and been to many many places of beauty and history.this spot was my favorite.the locals were as humble and kind as any place I ever stood upon in my lifetime..everyone should take time to visit I promise you'll love it
Great music, without digital contamination!
And he inspires this 54 y.o. guitar player to try just a little bit harder! Thanks to 60-min for this piece and thanks to Kingfish and all who came before him for the music!
I've been playing guitar and singing about 25yrs.... KingFish is the truth, the guy is connected to the guitar like very few come before him.
Without the blues we would be no where. Blues is where it all began
I saw Kingfish in concert last year while at work, I was very impressed
Saw Kingfish a few years back, very humble and kind. After his incredible performance he sat down at the table where he was selling shirts, CDs, LPs and hand signed everything and shook everyones hand.
Well done, 60 Minutes. Lived in Memphis 7 years and truly learned to appreciate "Beale Street" as well as every blues bar in the area. Saw BB as well as many others many times and ate ribs too many times! In my head I still hear the question "wet or dry" with the blues reverberating against the old brick walls. I have been living overseas now for 31 years and still "freaking love the blues! Thank you, 60 minutes. It has brought back great memories.
Kingfish slaps. He’s been great for years. Glad he’s getting the attention he deserves
Kingfish has it all, great guitar player and a beautiful voice.
Music from the Heart ❤️
Kingfish is so humble and talented!! Hope he gets healthy and stays around for a very long time!
Nothing like the blues 💙
Thanks for this, 52 years old and I love blues more than any music out there.
The Blues had a baby...and they named it Rock n Roll...Excellent...Thanks for posting the full multi-part story in high res.
This is beautiful. Everyone in the guitar community who appreciates r&b, and jazz is gonna keep it alive. I know I try my best 🔥🔥
I can't help but miss SRV. Best live performer I've ever seen.
Must be the only you have seen!!!😮
Kingfish is the man!! Dude has skills dripping out his ears & his music is not only awesome, but addictive!💪😎👍
Nothing tells a story like the Blues!!
Thank you for keeping musical history alive and for eternity, for us and all to remember, and NEVER forget, NEVER forget❤🙏🏽✊🏾👍🏾👋🏽✊🏾👍🏾♥️
I e been telling a lot of people about this “kid” ( I say “kid” , but I know he’s now in his early twenties) - I always say he’s a tour de force , bringing the Blues back to the forefront - a phenomenal player.
My band is from Flordia and we're a new blues band with an album out now and a new album coming next year.
The blues is on the verge of coming back strong and new
I haven't heard of Kingfish before, but I love when confident players straddle the blues and jazz. Doing it on a Tele Deluxe is something else!!
First Jason Isbell now this!?? Thank you for covering great contemporary music 60 minutes!
Blues is our backbone, our very strength, .....everlasting.
The Blues 🎶🎹🥁🎸🎙ain't never gonna die..
I just hope ppl will see this and get inspiration to pick up musical instruments, it doesn’t have to be a guitar. But keep the sound going, I got into different things musical, but then come back to blues. I’m happy that roots of rock are still going , and it will keep going. Blues is hard to do, but without it’s feeling, you can’t play riffs without that umppf!! lol . Everyone is different and ppl need to listen to listen.
Kingfish is a legend he is keeping the blues alive TAKING IT TO THE FUTURE HE ISTHE BLUES he has his own unique style He is not JH or EC BBK he is KINGFISH 🥝🇳🇿FAN
He was a “legend” when he was 12.
He is his own player. But seeing him in person over the past five years it's more and more obvious he is patterning his stage persona after BB.
This man is a reincarnation of many blues souls. So happy he’s keeping this alive
I was born a poor white boy in Biloxi MS, i like to listen to the blues because we lived the blues
Been listening to Kingfish for a while now, he's still my favorite "new generation" Blues Artist.
When he performs, it is a powerful sound where flesh and spirit collide.....
He's the guy, and then there's everybody else....✌💯
I saw him for the 1st time in January 2020 I'm Nashville. He's just incredible! 👏...saw him several times after that. Including in Holland! PACKED HOUSE!🎸🎶👏
I admit, I'm a white guy in my 50s... but there is no other music that I'd listen to hour after hour for life than a soul wrenching blues. There's many aspects to music that can't be heard, felt, or experienced anywhere except in this genre named blues. I am thankful I've been able to listen to many players over the years.
I just gained so much respect for Morgen Freeman!
Christone is a talented musician but, maybe more importantly, also very intelligent, incredibly nice and well aware of the meaning of the music he’s playing. He’s a great inspiration for the young generations, regardless of the art they are willing to perform.
I saw him play recently, absolutely incredible.
This is AWESOME!! I love this whole story...from the history to the new KingFish!!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
My hand and message is one of the first on the side of the bar at Ground Zero. I live in the Delta, born and raised. Mississippi River mud between our toes and the”Blues” deep in our blood flowing through our veins. You can play it in every corner all around the world, but you can’t feel it until you come to the Delta.😊❤
SO LOVE this story!
King fish is an incredible player I can’t even believe it
Thank you, 60 Minutes
Thank god for the blues there ain't nothing better
fantastic…Nothing compares to this country’s amazing history and stories
I saw Kingfish serval years ago in Houston and also in New Orleans. He always puts on a good show. It's great to have a young guy out there playing the blues for many years to come.
1000%!!! THE DELTA IS WHERE ALL!! THE MUSIC STARTED!!
Kingfish is amazing. He opened for Kenny Wayne Shepard & Buddy guy. I was blown away by kingfish
There is a roots music revival happening in the US…and I recommend everyone hops on board! Bring real music to the front!
I saw Kingfish at the Montreal Jazz Festival this summer. That man stole the show
Long live the Blues! 💙
The Blues are one of the elemental forces on Earth. Not many realize it's Earth, Wind, Fire, Water & The Blues.
