The final part of our Outer Hebrides series 🎉! Lewis and Harris has beautiful beaches galore, dramatic coastline, and some pretty special historical sites (like the 5000 year old Callanish Standing Stones 🤯). If you've been inspired to visit the Western Isles yourself, let us know in the comments which of the islands you'd like to visit most and why! And don't forget, you can plan your perfect trip using our detailed guides over on the blog - www.goingthewholehogg.com/best-things-to-do-on-lewis-and-harris/ Cheers! Kim & Del
This brought back memories of childhood as I holidayed here in the very early 60’s, in a rural village called Tolsta Chaolish when I was 5 or so. We kids were feral then 😂. It was all very rural and remote. Google maps shows the house my sister built is still there, plus Old Annie’s Place also known as the post office, and the home of my sisters mother-in-law is also still there though modernized. Memories. Not all good but Lewis is stunning. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. 🥰
So ein schöner Film. In dieser Zeit ist es schön, das auch andere Menschen die Natur so genießen können. Sehr stimmungsvoll .! Ich war an diesen Plätzen vor 23 Jahren mit meiner Familie. Mein former brother in low was a stonemason und a scottsman. Ihr habt es ganz toll gemacht, ein toller Film ...Respect!!!
Hi guys ! I saw you're video and i from France, i think i gonna plan to come here this summer. I'll read your website when i needed. And i think your video is very informative. Thank you so much.
So glad to have found your magical youtube site. I just started reading Peter May's Lewis trilogy and wanted to know about the island setting. Your filming is so evocative and I love your generous sharing of advice.
So relaxing and beautiful! Also, I'm learning how to say Scottish place names by listening to you. I'm so amazed by how blue-green and clear the water is and how white the sand.
Enjoyable and educational, that's what I like to hear! Scottish place names can be impossible for us too at times, especially if it's a Gaelic name. I think we have pronounced everywhere correctly in this though. Yeah, the beaches in the Outer Hebrides are unbelievably beautiful, if only the water was warm!
I was on the Islands the first week in July went to the Blackhouses, Callanish and Uig too all fantastic your reviews are outstanding as usual. The weather was pretty bad when here as well but did nothing to stop me from loving it just the same will definitely be back.
Hi Gordon, thanks for sharing your experience. We’d heard the summer was pretty bad weather wise after we left but as you say, just got to go with it, and it doesn’t stop you wanting to go back. Thanks for watching 😃
Another superb video which is so relaxing to watch, it was over too quickly! We had recently returned from a trip to Skye, Harris and Lewis and briefly, Wester Ross at the end of September. Harris and Lewis has left a lasting impression on me with its breath taking scenery, so it was great to see yourselves visiting places we'd just been to. The weather was mixed but didn't distract from the beauty of the place. We most certainly will return as 5 nights was just not enough. I'm now looking forward to your Skye video. Thank you both.
Thanks Sue, delighted to know you found it relaxing. It always makes us happy to hear our videos are having that effect. Sounds like you had a good trip too, and we totally understand that desire to go back and experience more. We are in Skye just now and doing our best to capture it well, so it’s motivating to hear you’re looking forward to that one. Thanks again!
You are very welcome Gene, thanks for watching and for letting us know you enjoyed it. Happy to hear it described as ‘soothing’ and glad that it was a much needed diversion. Thanks again 🙂
I think filming the tips of the Callanish Stones was a subtly masterful touch. We were there just last month (we stayed in a pod in Mangersta) and it was lovely returning with your film.
Thanks, Tom! The detail in the stones is wonderful, worth showing close up and glad you appreciated these scenes. We liked the idea of revealing the overall view of the stones gradually, from individual to the whole collection. Mangersta is lovely, bet that was great staying in a pod there!
A great read for me was ofan island named Raasay ,in the Hebrides about the Rona Lighthouse keeper, Calum Macleod , who , by himself , over the years , built his very own road , The island is extraordinary too , Hebrides produces some extraordinary humans , ❤❤❤nz
I really enjoyed the whole Outer Hebrides series. This last may have been my favorite. I could have watched the overhead view of Garry beach with the inky brown stream spilling into the emerald water for an hour. Thank you!
Thank you Kate, that’s really wonderful to hear. Yeah, those views down on Garry Beach were amazing, especially the mixing of the two waters like that. Thanks again!
Hey friends!! You’ve been on my mind recently and wanted to check in on your channel to get updated on your whereabouts! I really enjoyed this slow, cinematic TV (a feast on the eyes!), coupled with your value-packed commentary! Keep up the great work. You are both very talented ❤ xx Tania
Aww, thanks Tania! And that was spooky timing as I was just thinking about you guys too! We finally got round to buying an SSD after Adam recommended one for editing and I started using it yesterday to work on editing the next film. Loving it so far! Very jealous of your Dolomites adventures (complete with doggo!!) but we can't complain with the fantastic trips around Scotland we've had this year ⛺😃 Kim x
Have been binging some of your videos recently, and I must say, the cinematography is incredible, and the story telling you portray just through the sounds, music and video is unreal. Given me lots of inspiration for my own content! Hope you manage to visit Carlottas at some point ;)
Hey Zac, thanks very much! Appreciate that a lot. We did think about stopping in at Carlottas on our way south but the weather was bad and the tiredness from 2 weeks on sky had kicked in. We’ll get there though. Hope you’re doing well 🙂
So peaceful and beautifully filmed. You appear to be using a drone a lot more these days which pleases me. Looking at your post about what’s in your camera bag this is really out of date. Please can you update with your latest gear as it must have changed significantly. All the best. Keep it them coming.
Thanks, Steven! Yeah, drone use usually depends on how often we can charge batteries. On this trip we could charge in the car while driving, and we bought a fourth battery as well. Our camera gear for this specific trip is linked in the video description. These days we have a DJI Air 2s instead of the Mavic Air, the Sony camera and lenses remain the same as described in the blog post. We need to find the time to update the blog post with any changed gear, it's on a long list!
Dear Kim and Del, Thank you for such a beautiful and well produced film/video. I liked the pacing particularly. Very evocative. Just what I needed, and clarifies that I want to move there asap! I'm seriously thinking about it. Much appreciated, Kennedy.
@@GoingTheWholeHogg Dear Kim thanks so much, yes it's all very inspirational! Your other Outer Hebrides and worldwide videos are pretty damn good too! If/when I manage to move, you'd be very welcome to stay. I'll update you when i know more. A magnificent video. But is it really about Lewis and Harris? Or is it about ... drivers and cars? Car ferries, roads, vans, scenic drives, stop off places, viewpoints, car parks, lovely beaches that are only accessible by "your vehicle" ... it's all ... cars cars cars.
Well, thanks for your appraisal. It is a journey through Lewis and Harris, so in that sense it is about Lewis and Harris. We journeyed by car and ferry, as many people do, so it inevitably focuses on these aspects. The rest we’ll leave to your own interpretation 🙂
I think it's because the two regions are separated by mountains and prior to the road being built, people would have journeyed by boat to get from one to the other, making it feel like two distinct islands.
