  • Dyno session of my supercharged 2004 VFR in Ruud Fredrick 's dyno shop in Holland. Due to a mistake during installation (my fault) the bike gave 183 HP in this run. A later run gave 202 HP. This bike is now a monster...

    ...and I also think 6th generation VFRs give more power when supercharged; something to do with cam profiles or something if I remember correctly. Like I said, don't think about it too much, 165 is great power, more than enough to surprise anyone and if I understand correctly you have no problems with your bike. Just keep enjoying it!

    I had to dismantle the supercharger and sell both the bike and the SC kit seperately after I couldn't solve the mysterious A/F fluctuations I experienced when the bike got hot. The bike ran fine after the SC, so I thought I made a mistake during the installation. The guy who bought the bike from me called me one day to say that the bike wasn't cranking over. To make a long story short, it turned out that the wires that went into the starter key were corroded (the only place I didn't look at!) and were shorting out at certain times. This probably was the culprit all along. The bike ran fine after that. The SC kit went to a very nice gentleman in Australia and I hope he installed it on his very trick VFR; though I haven't heard from him for a long long time.
    The whole ordeal broke my heart, this bike was perfect for me, the styling, the sound, the handling, the comfort; and the huge power via the SC would've been the icing on the cake. It would've been the ultimate sleeper but it was not to be. I now ride a lightly modified VFR1200F but I'll never forget this one...

      Hey Arrow, have you heard from that Aussie owner at all? I'm interested in buying his kit off him. If you have contact details that would be great.

      @@KaldekBoch , sorry, I just saw your message when I decided to check this very old video; I didn't get a notification, I wonder why. The Aussie gentleman apparently sold it to someone in the US 2 years ago unfortunately...

    @Kacz101stABNDIV I answered you two days ago, but I can't see it now. I forgot to plug in the temp sens. at the bottom of the airbox so air was rushing out through those holes during this run. I corrected it and it gained 20 HP. To say I'm extremely embarressed would be an understatement. I'll have to get the injectors cleaned, and have the starter valves synched and I'm guessing that will cure the problems I have....

    The horsepower on a different dyno (it was a Dynojet) was 187 HP so the number will change from dyno to dyno. I've a rapidbike module which can tweak the ignition advance so that's how this bike's making so much power. The thing is there's something wrong with it (the AFR goes all over the place after a certain time on the road) and I can't figure out why. Since no one else experienced this, the fault must be with me and I'm all out of ideas. I'd be happy to have 165 and good manners brother :-)

    They're BOS from Italy. I also liked the shape which is actually very similar to the stock except that there's one big hole on the exhaust instead of two smaller ones. The sound is much more bassy but never obnoxious even without the baffles. I actually thought they were too quiet at first :-) but I'm very happy with them...

    I installed the A&A supercharger kit on my 5th gen last winter, rode it all summer long here in the US, no problems...great kit! I didn't end up with nearly the same amount of HP that you got though, the best I got was 175, but it leaned way out at the 11000rpm range and had to dial it back, now I'm at 165hp. I know there's a LOT more power to be had. Mind giving me some tips or info how you got to 202? Help.

    I think increased vibration is a result of the SC so I wouldn't think to much of it. The erratic AFR might be a result of a vacuum leak like you said. I also suspect that the bike's charging system has problems. I'll get it checked next week...

    Excellent work, I've alway loved the VFR800 ever since I tired my friends, thought it was a tourer from riding position, hit it and it was nice. VERY nice, your boosted version must be superb to ride quickly.

    Gearing and swingarm are stock. I'm actually thinking about going down to 15 in the front (from 16) for better control at dense traffic but the way this bike pulls after 7000, I doubt it's a good idea :-) ...
    I don't think A&A is producing kits for VFRs anymore but you should check with Dan first. I hope you get a kit and post the results here...

    @kevito666 Just regular pump gas, 98 octane (equivalant of 93 in the US I think)...

  • @dtsouza2519
    @dtsouza2519 12 лет назад

    I will say my bike is very well mannered on the road, just a bit rough in the very low rpm range and has slight more vibration in the pegs and handlebars compared to stock. Might be caused by a fouled plug during tuning. Did you try going back to the A&A fuel map to get rid of the erratic AFR? I also replaced all the vacuum lines on the throttle body, they look like they had been overheated a few times over the years. Possible you have a vac line leak that opens up after getting hot?

    My vsr800 is very enough for me lol it's very fast. I have a 2000 vsr and when I get on it I smile every time. From my understanding if you want a good daily bike. Not too expensive and dose the job and still fast when you wanna go fast go find a vsr

    did you ever figure out that issue (felt like it was running out of gas)

    How it it possible to double the power of an engine and not have reliability issues??

    • @arrow0872
      @arrow0872  3 года назад +2

      That's supercharging for you; but mind you, the full power of this bike with this kit is for relativey short bursts of acceleration . It's not like the liter bikes or the Hayabusa, or ZX-14 /ZZR1400 where you can go flat out for ages. That could've been solved with an intercooler perhaps but this kit didn't have one. The boost levels were also relatively low, so you could keep using pump gas without detonation which helped with the durability...

    • @trantas4
      @trantas4 3 года назад

      @@arrow0872 it's not just the temperature issues. What about transmission, piston rods etc? I saw a guy who got 183 whp. That's exactly twice the power. That bike could blow up anytime..

    • @arrow0872
      @arrow0872  3 года назад +2

      @@trantas4 , there's no reason for piston problems unless the power is applied continuously, that'd create knocking due to high temperatures. The supercharger delivers its power very linearly so the engine components -rods, transmission and such- aren't stressed. Again, the purpose of the kit is to apply it for short periods, not for keeping it flat-out for miles and miles...

    • @trantas4
      @trantas4 3 года назад +2

      @@arrow0872 Piston rods can bend or crack just from a single pull. Transmission also. It doesn't have to be continuous power. They were made to endure a certain amount of load. If you double that load it should be a ticking bomb, unless they were made extremely strong from Honda in the first place. This is a very possible scenario considering the 800 engine was over engineered.

    • @arrow0872
      @arrow0872  3 года назад +2

      @@trantas4 I agree, but the way the power is delivered is also important, linear power will help preserve the engine. The durability of the 800 V4 engine, as you pointed out is also a factor here. The owner of the company test rode it for a hard couple of thousand of miles and reported no problems.

      Selam, ürünü yapan dünyada kimse yok şu an, tahminim bir daha da olmayacağı. Supercharger kitini üreten Amerika Philadelphia civarında bir şirketti. Şirketin sahibi bunu bir yan iş olarak yapıyordu, sonrasında devam ettirmedi.
