Louisiana Player CHEAP SHOT vs Marshall Leads to Ejection | 2021 College Football

  • During the college football game between Louisiana and Marshall, a Louisiana player was ejected for targeting early in the fourth quarter for targeting after an absolute cheap shot hit. Louisiana punted the ball away and the Marshall return man called for a fair catch... but apparently one Louisiana player didn't see this and layed him out with a clear helmet to helmet hit. The Marshall sideline was furious as it was clearly a dirty play and the Louisiana player was rightfully ejected. Marshall leads Louisiana 21-16 in the fourth quarter of the 2021 Louisiana Bowl.

There are still programs out there with coaches that tell their players straight up: "go hit the other team as hard as you can however you can. We'll try and intimidate the officials into not calling a foul or targeting." It never worked well, and it isn't working at all anymore. Coaches, and fans, still come to the defense of the players saying stupid things like, "something has to be done about targeting..." and the penalty is too harsh. The ONLY way to take that hit out of the game is with a severe penalty, in this case, an ejection. Even with ejections, they still happen. While there can be a legit gripe about whether the call is enforced consistently, no fan should complain about targeting unless you want YOUR player lit up like that, or, more precisely, unless YOU are willing to go out there and get hit like that. Unfortunately, for now, everyone thinks their team doesn't do anything wrong and its everyone else that commits fouls. Sorry, that's not only wrong but stupid.

The coaches should have sent his butt straight to the locker room for that one. This late in the season, there is NO excuse for that kind of behavior. We're trying to get those hits out of the game for a reason.

You beat me to that comment!
I think the entire lousy-Anna team needs penalized!!!
Starting with 22, the sideline coach that patted him on the back, then every player or coach thereafter not calling him on his blatant targeting bullshit needs to be ejected from the game with full game suspensions to go along with the ejections!!!
I also think the team should be sanctioned for at least five games where any penalties called against them get automatic ejections!!!
Only the players not involved and coaches not involved in congratulating #22 should be allowed to stay on the field!!!

Classless, pathetic, disgusting, and dangerous. When you not only do this but you celebrate it like you did nothing wrong, and CELEBRATE IT, you never belong on a football field again. Ever.
The Louisiana coaching staff should be completely ashamed and AT LEAST FINED for supporting a BLATANT, INTENTIONALLY DIRTY play.

to me, it doesn’t matter if he did or not. he still drove directly into the helmet. plus, he celebrated after the whole world heard the helmet to helmet. it doesn’t matter if he saw the fair catch

Uh, yeah, he saw it. When you cycle your arms like that, it’s obvious to see. And even if he didn’t see it, the way he acted afterward totally gave it away

The guys in the booth saw the fair catch signal if he didn’t he was simply not looking at the ONE GUY he’s supposed to be watching

He’s the closest one to him looking directly at him throwing his arm up. Tf you mean

He clearly didn't, otherwise he wouldn't have hit him and then scooped, scored, and celebrated a TD he thought he scored

This shows the problem with football in a nutshell.....players going for the "look at me" moment....signaling they got a first down every time....getting a sack and walking 10 yards past and flexing....mass celebrations for doing your job! Coaches and parents have allowed this....enjoy.

I was a Marshall fan watching the game and this was absolutely disgusting.

The hand slaps and congrats by teammates and coaches after a literal cheap shot is some low level shit... And yeah I used to be D1 too, this isnt "competing"

What's funny is this cheap shot actually gave Louisiana momentum and some spirit...lol They were playing half asleep and after this hit both sides of the ball exploded.

If I were the NCAA I'd be suspending this guy for multiple games next season regardless of where he plays and fining the University's athletic department for the coaches not handling this the way they should have.
Unacceptable the way the entire Louisiana sideline reacted to that play. They wouldn't be dappin' no one up if they took that hit, they'd be pissed as hell.

I am a former athlete and alumni of that university and although I was happy that they won that game, I was embarrassed about that situation. I hope the young man was OK.

The NCAA should sanction the coach that was laughing, smiling, and congratulating the thug that tried to injure the Marshall player intentionally. If I was the President at Louisiana, the coach would be fired and not allowed to travel home with the team. Absolutely disgusting.
