I like how your vids have meaning to you, places you've fished in the past with your dad. Always interesting, an industrial look to the background, just shows that there are a lot of places where we can catch fish.

The water, thankfully, is a little cleaner these days...when I was young you'd be fishing away and all of a sudden the water would turn green as industrial waste from the nearby factories was discharged directly into the river, this has all been stopped now. Great vid Gareth nice Conger. My Dad was a Fishmonger and often he would bring conger steaks home for us,poached them in milk he did and we had veg and parsley sauce. Good eating but you don,t hear about many fishermen eating them,take care Gareth and once again thanks for the entertainment.

Not bad stamp of whiting aswell similar size what i have been managing. Iwas bk out early sat. Morning from 2.am till about 8 oclock. Managed 3 whiting this week.a 33cm a 35cm n a 36cm. I dont mind catching them when that size. Saw loads of stars n a cracking sunrise. I did get paronoid 4 the first 2 hours thinking there was some one moving about hahHa i think because on my own your senses are more tuned in . First time I fished the usk was after watching one of your very early vids and I have taken my daughter fishing there several times since and made some great memories. Easy place to fish also. The whiting seem to be a decent size this year with some early reports of decent cod. Fingers crossed 🤞 Totally agree on the weather reports! To be honest it was bigger than 10lbs, more like 12/13, not that it matters. I'm pleased to hear you've taken your daughter there, that's great, easy fishing as you say and she will remember those sessions for many years. Anything can turn up, literally, very mysterious! I filmed this last Thursday and despite the choppy water, there were loads of Mullet close in and I spotted a couple of Bass jumping, I'm guessing they were shaking off sea lice as I couldn't see much fly life. Yeah good to see a few nice Whiting showing, hopefully the shoal sizes will increase during the coming weeks and would also be great to see some nice Cod. Good luck with the new weather app, will hopefully be a little more accurate! I've not fished the transporter for a long time back when you could fish at the rails in the road. I might have to give this location a crack. But I always go to my old trusted Goldcliff I love fishing it down to low and two hours up. Tide permits though. Might give it a bash tomorrow

Fantastic video Gareth so great to see you can go from pin whiting like that to a double figure conger that’s why I love this kind of fishing. I’ve been to this part of the usk before but I was a little bit closer to the bridge, do you ever have problems with the big objects (traffic cones, old metal etc) when fishing or does it clear up as you go downstream?

Yeah that's right, close to the bridge you do get the traffic cones, metal objects etc but if you walk at least 100 metres up from the bridge then it's a lot cleaner. Where I was in the video, it was very clean and I didn't get any snags. Might be worth you taking a walk down there on low water so that you can check out the bottom. But yeah, the further up from the bridge, the cleaner it is and you should be ok. Cheers 👍👍

This mark cannot be fished at the moment Shaun as the flood defence bund is being upgraded and the access has been closed off. Works should be completed this Autumn and then it will be accessible again. Plenty of parking available on Stephenson Street, then it's a matter of walking up to the bridge, taking a left along the path and picking your spot, big area to choose from. Cheers 👍

Hi Wayne. Well I've just bought two fixed spool reels, the Penn Surfblaster 3, size 7000. If you shop around online, you should be able to purchase for around £100.00 each. I think they are solid and reliable, very smooth and should last a long time. I'm no expert but I think they are great reels for the money. Good luck with your fishing comeback! 👍👍

Weather predictions are horrific these days they defiantly seam to be getting more inaccurate. I try to look for a window of 2 or 3 days then check constantly ok each day to decide if its worth going.
Frustrating isn't it mate. Last Sunday was a great example, forecast was for heavy rain all day and so I didn't bother buying bait...not a drop of rain, weather was perfect!!! Hope you manage to get a session in soon, tight lines! 👍👍

I like how your vids have meaning to you, places you've fished in the past with your dad. Always interesting, an industrial look to the background, just shows that there are a lot of places where we can catch fish.

The water, thankfully, is a little cleaner these days...when I was young you'd be fishing away and all of a sudden the water would turn green as industrial waste from the nearby factories was discharged directly into the river, this has all been stopped now. My Dad was a Fishmonger and often he would bring conger steaks home for us,poached them in milk he did and we had veg and parsley sauce.

Not bad stamp of whiting aswell similar size what i have been managing. Iwas bk out early sat. Morning from 2.am till about 8 oclock. Managed 3 whiting this week.a 33cm a 35cm n a 36cm. I dont mind catching them when that size. Saw loads of stars n a cracking sunrise. I did get paronoid 4 the first 2 hours thinking there was some one moving about hahHa i think because on my own your senses are more tuned in . First time I fished the usk was after watching one of your very early vids and I have taken my daughter fishing there several times since and made some great memories. Easy place to fish also.
The whiting seem to be a decent size this year with some early reports of decent cod. Fingers crossed 🤞

Thank you Matt, appreciated as always. Yeah was nice to get a last cast Conger, couldn't believe it when it got stuck on that log ha! To be honest it was bigger than 10lbs, more like 12/13, not that it matters. I'm pleased to hear you've taken your daughter there, that's great, easy fishing as you say and she will remember those sessions for many years. Anything can turn up, literally, very mysterious! I filmed this last Thursday and despite the choppy water, there were loads of Mullet close in and I spotted a couple of Bass jumping, I'm guessing they were shaking off sea lice as I couldn't see much fly life. Yeah good to see a few nice Whiting showing, hopefully the shoal sizes will increase during the coming weeks and would also be great to see some nice Cod. Good luck with the new weather app, will hopefully be a little more accurate! Last Sunday I didn't bother buying bait as heavy rain was forecast all day...turned out beautiful and was perfect fishing weather, annoying! Cheers mate, enjoy your Sunday! 👍👍🐟

I couldn't believe the size of that Conger. No wonder you were so chuffed! It didn't look that big when it was still in the water. I've not fished the transporter for a long time back when you could fish at the rails in the road. I might have to give this location a crack. But I always go to my old trusted Goldcliff I love fishing it down to low and two hours up. Tide permits though. Might give it a bash tomorrow

Fantastic video Gareth so great to see you can go from pin whiting like that to a double figure conger that’s why I love this kind of fishing. I’ve been to this part of the usk before but I was a little bit closer to the bridge, do you ever have problems with the big objects (traffic cones, old metal etc) when fishing or does it clear up as you go downstream?

Yeah that's right, close to the bridge you do get the traffic cones, metal objects etc but if you walk at least 100 metres up from the bridge then it's a lot cleaner. Where I was in the video, it was very clean and I didn't get any snags. Might be worth you taking a walk down there on low water so that you can check out the bottom. But yeah, the further up from the bridge, the cleaner it is and you should be ok. Cheers 👍👍

This mark cannot be fished at the moment Shaun as the flood defence bund is being upgraded and the access has been closed off. Works should be completed this Autumn and then it will be accessible again. Plenty of parking available on Stephenson Street, then it's a matter of walking up to the bridge, taking a left along the path and picking your spot, big area to choose from. Cheers 👍

Hi Wayne. Well I've just bought two fixed spool reels, the Penn Surfblaster 3, size 7000. If you shop around online, you should be able to purchase for around £100.00 each. I think they are solid and reliable, very smooth and should last a long time. I'm no expert but I think they are great reels for the money. Good luck with your fishing comeback! 👍👍

Weather predictions are horrific these days they defiantly seam to be getting more inaccurate. I try to look for a window of 2 or 3 days then check constantly ok each day to decide if its worth going.
Frustrating isn't it mate. Last Sunday was a great example, forecast was for heavy rain all day and so I didn't bother buying bait...not a drop of rain, weather was perfect!!! Hope you manage to get a session in soon, tight lines! 👍👍
