- I couldn't resist returning to Nell's Point in Barry after my last good session down there. A great winter Cod fishing mark on its day and during the festive period it can throw up some nice surprises. One of favourite marks on the Welsh side of the Bristol Channel.

Hello my friend I am watching from Cairns in Australia, I was born in Liverpool and migrated to Australia at age 4, Fishing is very popular here and is my main hobbie, never give up and I just wanted to say great vids and keep up the hunt for those illusive critters in the murky depths, cheers mate.

The marks I fish are not as productive as they once were but I still fish them as they're special to me, lots of good memories and on their day they can still produce some nice fish. @@riversidewithme Thanks for your reply, I hope the fish come back and energize your fishing experience, The fishing isn't great like people make out, sometimes hours of fishing without 1 fish, and when they are biting its usually small reef sharks, occasionally you get a nice fish but its surely over rated here in cairns, I'm told I have to go out 50 kilometres or more to enchance my catch, most days its too rough on the water, waiting for that calm swell day, I hope it gets better for you, they say the more Rods the merrier and fish an hour either side of the tide change. When having problems connecting with fish on a flapper rig try 2-3 different sizes of hooks, like size 1, 1/0, 2/0. Then see what size is catching. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Catch you in the new year.

Thanks David. It was a really frustrating session, so many bites but just couldn't connect, I even tried smaller hooks and baits but still no joy. I still enjoyed it though, weather was superb and was a pleasure to be out. Yeah some different marks coming up, will hopefully be a few fish about, there will be at Brixham! I was hoping to go back to the Taff Estuary but the accommodation prices are too expensive, will maybe go next year but will go with some other people too so that it's cheaper. love it can't wait till my next seesion back at Nells point after you put me on the mark for my first success.. and i love to fish porthcawl , speacialy now the peir is half open again.. had a double stint a few days ago last week.. and sadly caught nothing fishing into the harbour mouth.,. but mr crabs kept ruining my baits.. but i did succed in beating them by suspeding my flapper rig up with x4 corks tight line holding it above in the water out of reach.. and next time im going to bring a crab drop net to use off the peir side .. make best of the pests as hopeful free bait since their are so many now.. fingers crossed your next visit down porthcawl is a catching inspiration 😉

Sounds like the corks are a good idea when it comes to keeping the bait off the bottom, nice one. Crabs can be a great bait, particularly peeler crabs. Yes hopefully I'll get a few fish down at Porthcawl, I was hoping to fish it back in November but I just didn't get the chance, that's my favourite time of the year for down there. Great going Gareth!, that’s a hard slog off that corner onto all that rough stuff. I find during the day straight off the front onto the sandy patch is quite productive

Really enjoying the content, I used to do a bit back in the day but changed the car and couldn't get a beachcaster in the new one lol, one of my mates in work has been having some nice codling under the old bridge, hint hint😉

Pity you didnt get a nice cod for xmas, but as you say that's fishing. I love Brixham and Teignmouth area I got my boat as Teignmouth, great fishing in the summer. I also love the Penarth area, i fished it for years with penarth sea anglers and I won the open there many years ago. So I will look forward to that. I have been recovering from cancer over the last year and haven't been able to get the rods out , so its nice to see local marks. Have a great xmas and new year Gareth, good luck mate.
Sorry to hear about the cancer Allen but I hope the recovery continues to go well, no doubt you'll be wetting a line again soon! I bet you get some great sport down in Teignmouth where your boat is, such a good variety of species. Ah that's interesting, well done for winning the open, quite an achievement that! I've never really done much match fishing, I guess I'm more of a pleasure angler at heart but I can see the appeal. Hi gareth you ok pal, loved the show again great stuff. Ive been having some aggressive bites n you think fish on and its flounder attacking the bait, wind in and you think ehhhh the rod tip was going mad. Well done on your eel. I was out yesterday n it was slow going till last hour n then managed 2 flounders,1 rockling n 1 dab on the humber. I would like too wish you n them close to you a very mery xmas from the east coast GRIMSBY.
