    What do you think about swapping in a LDS multifuel? Seems like it should be a direct swap and they have have 200hp compared to the LDT 130hp and 440 ft Ibs of torque compared to 330

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Год назад

      That's what I had before this swap. They perform great. The problem is longevity. Mine gave me about 50,000 miles before it shattered a liner and jammed the piston at the bottom of the stroke right in the driveway. When I pulled the oil pan there were large pieces of liner laying in it and the engine was locked up. After four different multifuel engines I wanted an engine that would last. The Cummins is also lighter by a few hundred pounds, cheaper and easier to get parts for, and way easier to upgrade. The lower front end weight is very noticeable while driving. Much nicer handling and acceleration.

    • @hummerguy

      @@tacticalrepair What's the best things you think can be done with the multifuel to make it last?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Год назад

      @@hummerguy ARP head studs, o-ring the heads, and have the rotating assembly balanced. Still leaves you with the issue of liners shattering though. When that happens at speed, it jams a piston, breaks a rod and knocks a hole in the block.
      The work I just listed cost so much that you could just buy a 5.9L Cummins instead. That's why I say it really isn't cost effective to rebuild the multifuel anymore.

    • @hummerguy
      @hummerguy Год назад +1

      @@tacticalrepair Another question, would a built NV4500 be able fit with the 5.9 cummins since the engine is 6 inches shorter than the multifuel?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Год назад

      @@hummerguy I'm not sure because I don't know how long the 4500 is. It might if you push the engine forward, but then you need to look at oil pan clearance to either the front crossmember or the axle, depending on which way you have the pan installed. You also need to find out what the overdrive ratio of it is. The Spicer is .89-1 ratio, so you want that or lower, like .79 or .69 or something. You don't want to cut your top end speed.

Are you still running the stock Saginaw or did you swap the transmission with something a little more user friendly? @@tacticalrepair did you see the video of it in operation. works great, pedal is actually very similar to OEM. shorter travel though so i gotta make a pedal stop. i fear ill break something if i don't.

      No I didn't. I'm sure it works great, it just is different.

      @@tacticalrepair was a lot easier than trying to adapt the dodge to use a cable, or linkage. stock dodge master, pull style slave, an3 adapter fittings, 48" stainless braided line. simple works, can get replacement parts at orileys. planned for roadside repairs.

      @@nathan00campbell oh I know, but you could've used a push style slave and a similar bracket built differently. Really a matter of preference at that point though.

      @@bmw328igearhead it is fast, but I don't cruise at that speed. Normally around 60-65, but now I can pass at normal highway speeds. My tires and tubes are good, and brakes and hubs get service twice a year. It's pretty safe.
