The items have a "age". The age is the despawn time. If it gets over 5 minutes it disappears. When a new item joins the stack the age of the stack is set to the age of the youngest item/itemstack. So the despawn time doesn't reset, but if you have an item on the ground for 4 minutes a add one to the stack that was there for 1 minute, the age of the new stack will be on minute.
If you are using a Swiftwolf's Rending Gale ring, it eats up fuel such as powders and coal. It does not require fuel to let you fly but it will eat it when it is in your quickslot. If you have anymore questions PM me ;) hope this helped you.
Aff... I thought you found some genius and revolutional method, and this is something that many people know and is really troublesome. But it's still a really clever idea.
this works fine in 1.3.1. i have done mine 250 blocks long and i play on far render distance. all the items were waiting for me when i went to see after 30 mins. I had around 40 stacks to collect. Thanks for the great invention panda! =)
200 blocks should be enough. Below the water there is ice. Every 8 blocks I used a upside down half slab to break the water stream and start a new one. The items keep on going because they sliding on the ice.
Thanks :D Ice only melts if the block light level (light from a torch or glowstone and other blocks) next to the ice block is 12 or higher. It dosen't matter in which biome it is.
thanks for the reply :) i figured out how to make a cheaper (but much less efficient) version of your sand generator for people who don't have the extreme requirements that you guys do
I will not do a video about it, but I asked JL2579. He got a cool design and said he might gonna do a tutorial... But if you want to see one now just search for "item elevator minecraft" on youtube.
Anyone else thought this would be epic for hardcore strip mining? No need to return to the start of your mine or whatever when you're full of ores ;D just wack them on the item transporter to transport them to an unloaded chunk. Thumbs up if you agree! :D
if you broke the block just in front of the water and replaced it you would not need sines and the would be no gaps because water moves to the closes hole
Had a thought. Make the same road back. I mean instead of walking there, flip a switch and have the same method transport them back....or wouldn't that work due to the data storing??
Despawn means that the items disappears. And yes if you kill a zombie and drop the rotten flesh into the water stream I show in the video it will stay at the end of it.
Actually it's irrelevant since 1.4. It's easier to send the items to the nether than a few hundreds blocks away... But yes, the hopper makes it pretty useless.
hey panda, awesome vids. but i have a quiston about chuncks. how many chuncks are always loaded around a player in single player with far render distance?
I just built an ice tunnel to transport witch drops all the way back to my base. They fall on fence posts, their drops fall below into a water stream which drops them into my transport. The items move along just fine, but when I ride the minecart track that is parallel to the tunnel all the way back the items are not there. I did all this because I didn't feel like messing with nether portals, but looks like at the moment I have no choice. That or wait for 1.5 and the hopper.
yeah lol ik, 1.5 was a great update for redstoners like me!, how do u have so much views lol? ive been posting a lot of fairly good quality videos and rarely get much attention at all!
MineCralex I have been around the community for about 5 years now. The main thing I gain attention from is somewhat mind blowing things (at least at the time of release). I had a lucky video about an enderman farm a while back which gave me the initial boost. Generally you should try to find people you like and work together with them. It's more fun that way :-)
Excuse me for asking but how many blocks would I approximately have to go. And how did you get the water to keep going without making it go down layers
hey im having items despawn from my inventory iv noticed it with coal an gun powder. im running a tekkit multiplayer server. an thats the only problem. ill loot 4 coal an there will only be 3 in my bag an then they disappear 1 at a time.

I just watched your chickenfarm video. It's incredible that your PC / the server was able to handle this :D
Nice farm by the way.
Now with hoppers...
Really clever. That's thinking outside the chunk.
Aff... I thought you found some genius and revolutional method, and this is something that many people know and is really troublesome. But it's still a really clever idea.
Yes, it dose work in SMP. We will upload a video of a egg farm (With item conservation) which we built in SMP soon...

Buildcraft is a great mod, but some people prefer to play vanilla. Then you have to use methods like this to make efficient farms.
200 blocks should be enough. Below the water there is ice. Every 8 blocks I used a upside down half slab to break the water stream and start a new one. The items keep on going because they sliding on the ice.
Thanks :D

Ok thanks that makes sense, so if you're going to build a small auto farm, as long as you collect before it makes a second stack you should be good.
Feine Sache. Danke für den Input :D
can't believe that more people haven't seen this video. he explains an extremely important thing!
Awesome video panda. thats a really kool feature. I'm going to have to use that for my server. I will get loads of items. Thanks a bunch. Ciao
It's in Minecraft 1.3. Items stack on the ground. And you always pick up the whole stack.
thanks for the reply :) i figured out how to make a cheaper (but much less efficient) version of your sand generator for people who don't have the extreme requirements that you guys do
Cool video Panda!
It would be jokes if this still works
I will not do a video about it, but I asked JL2579. He got a cool design and said he might gonna do a tutorial...
But if you want to see one now just search for "item elevator minecraft" on youtube.
Yep.
Yes, as long as no player gets to close to the items.
Yes. But it will produce alot more lagg because the stacking dosen't work.
Anyone else thought this would be epic for hardcore strip mining?
No need to return to the start of your mine or whatever when you're full of ores ;D just wack them on the item transporter to transport them to an unloaded chunk.
Thumbs up if you agree! :D
Sure.
Ja viel Glück dabei! :)
oh... these vids take me so far back...
Yes.
This is awesome. Panda does the best videos on youtube. =)
But wait, won't the ice melt?? Do you have to build this in a snow biome??
Head: Piston
Body: Redstone torch
Arms and legs: Levers
You can, if you have silk touch already. you can't get it in 1.2.5
Wow. Its so siple and so efficent. I can't believe I never thought of it.
Really cool. You should post this to reddit.
Can you make a video and show it? It would be cool to see a alternative design.
Sorry but I have no idea why. For me it's working fine...
panda! always look forward to your videos :)
if you broke the block just in front of the water and replaced it you would not need sines and the would be no gaps because water moves to the closes hole
Had a thought. Make the same road back. I mean instead of walking there, flip a switch and have the same method transport them back....or wouldn't that work due to the data storing??
No. You can do that with arrows but not with items.
Right.
I think it's Possible because Redstone load chunks but only in Singleplayer.
(You will need many redstone.)
Wait for our survival server chicken farm :P
According to the wiki it's 10 chunks to all sides. Not sure if it's correct.
Despawn means that the items disappears. And yes if you kill a zombie and drop the rotten flesh into the water stream I show in the video it will stay at the end of it.
BRILLIANT!!!
Talk about "laughing all the way to the bank.
Hi 👋
I showed it. Ice below, blocks on the sides, water streams on top. 4:40...
Yes. Too many items in the world still produce lagg.
sure, i'll see if i can record video
the items have to be in unloaded chunks so being 150 blocks away and on far won't work. you have to be 100 blocks away and on tiny for example
Actually it's irrelevant since 1.4. It's easier to send the items to the nether than a few hundreds blocks away...
But yes, the hopper makes it pretty useless.
hey panda,
awesome vids.
but i have a quiston about chuncks.
how many chuncks are always loaded around a player in single player
with far render distance?
Yes. But if you go through a nether portal it's still enought. I think about 4 minutes.
They removed it and will add it again in 1.3.
Sorry, but I have no idea way that is happening to you.
new snapshot is awesome they added hopper so u dont have to be worry
No. Like I said: Only the light level is important not the biome.
No, It only stops counting.
Pistons. That's always the answer :D
They will despawn.
Around 150 blocks.
As I suspected, limitations of the memory prematurely despawns items when they get over a certain number (unsure exactly what that number is).
Nope, as soon as they are unloaded they stop doing anything.
Thanks mate YOU saved my items^^.
I have a question, once the items are picked up, if they are dropped again will they keep their non-despawning powers or will they despawn?
No. The mobfarm is the worst I ever built. The reason why I got so many items is that is was AFK for a few hours.
Hostile mobs despawn if they are more than 128 blocks away from the player.
Lol saw this just after the itemsorter from sethbling.Guess we have all now for making a shop without using mods!
i think this was already patched a long time ago
+MineCralex This video was made a long time ago ;-)
But I think this still works today. Even in upcomming 1.9 :-)
Ill have to check that out :)
MineCralex (However by now you can use hoppers to store the items anyway :-P)
Have fun regardless. There might still be use for it in some cases :-)
yeah lol ik, 1.5 was a great update for redstoners like me!, how do u have so much views lol? ive been posting a lot of fairly good quality videos and rarely get much attention at all!

pro: items dont despawn
Con: LAG
Wait what does despawn mean? Like does it mean so like if you kill a zombie and if you dont pick up the rotten flesh the rotten flesh will stay there?
thx it was a nice idea but does it lag if theres so many items ? you had like 9 fps :P
Chickens in unloaded chunks still produce eggs right?
No.
easy and less resource wasting use top half slabs, 1.3 should make it easy
Can't you have a piston pshing them up then letting them fall down every couple of minutes?
Hey panda, do you know if the despawn time on the item stacks gets reset with each new item that joins it? Might be useful for small farms.
That workd too. But when I made this video it wasn't possible.
What about sending them though a nether portal?
or the end portal.
Excuse me for asking but how many blocks would I approximately have to go. And how did you get the water to keep going without making it go down layers
reaaly cool
Curious.
I might have to experiment to see if this works on the XBox version of the game.
Please do a tutorial on how to make this
how to do that trick that you move 64 items to your inventory in once?
nice and thanks didn't know that
Your hand looks like a lever
Same, that's what I thought
Simple, play on tiny render distance!!!
Are you on a server or close to the spawn?
Does that work in 1.2.5? (The items not despawning, not the stacking)
You speak German? Cool! I take German at my school, but I'm only in 1B, the second half of German 1. So, I don't speak that much.
Is there a limit to how far the items will travel?
can yo please make a tutorial how you made it plzzzz.Video is nice
Freakin genious....
How long did the way must be , that the items didn`t spawn ?
hey im having items despawn from my inventory iv noticed it with coal an gun powder. im running a tekkit multiplayer server. an thats the only problem. ill loot 4 coal an there will only be 3 in my bag an then they disappear 1 at a time.
Ja.
No longer necessary in 1.5
Does this work on multiplayer?
what recording software do you use
Won't it melt in desert biomes? o.O
