Hello! :)
Hello from Sweden!
In 4th grade, my music teacher was obsessed with Ted Gärdestad, so the whole class learned to play and sing a lot of his songs in class. Also I had some freinds daugther come to me a couple of years ago saying, come listen to this artist that I like, and it was Ted. Her parents didn't grow up in Sweden so they didn't know about him. She was very pleasantly surprised when I knew not only the songs she showed me but could recommened other lesser known songs. I was happy that young kids of today also like Ted.
Ted's performance of Satellit in the Swedish melodifestivalen is so much better than the Eurovision one. The instruments and orchestra just couldn't do it justice.
Veeeery much beloved in Sweden. Became a star in his early teens, wrote his own songs, his five years older, extremely supporting brother wrote all his lyrics. You can't mention Teds name in Sweden without someone shedding a tear... almost. He was such a young delicate flower and ended up a broken man due to his schizophrenia.
The ABBA girls sung his back vocals before ABBA got famous, the Porcaro brothers were his studio musicians before Toto became a household name... Björn borg was his rival in tennis and love. A strange destiny.
He had an incredibly rough life. He started off as a promising tennis player, but sacrificed that for the music. His life was portrayed in a movie from 2018, "Ted - För kärlekens skull".
He's one of our biggest national treasures. Heaven took him back too soon. 💔
And if I remember correctly he played against Björn Borg
@@90charmedndangerous They were friends are rivals 👌
Älskade Ted, oförglömliga låtar.. vila i frid 💖
The swedish artist YOHIO made a beautiful rendition of this song. You should really check it out! Thanks for the reaction.
Ted wrote the music and his brother Kenneth wrote the lyrics
He is now joined by his beloved brother, Kennet (cancer)
Ted actually recorded an english version of this song called Blue Virgin Isles.

He truely recorded a treasure trove of beautiful melodic pop songs that enchanted a whole generation of swedes.
A few of his most beloved songs are:
För kärlekens skull(For the sake of love) - ruclips.net/video/zs6UFYifZ2E/видео.html
^^ for your Helene Sjöholm fix; she also has a cover of För kärlekens skull - ruclips.net/video/SbkH0wRfTtw/видео.html
Öppna din himmel(Open your heaven/sky) - ruclips.net/video/mPE-NKMYfnc/видео.html
Sol, vind och vatten(Sun, wind and water) - ruclips.net/video/nqjJWzqvVPs/видео.html
Låt kärleken slå rot(Let love be rooted) - ruclips.net/video/M1Z8AJfZO9I/видео.html
I den stora sorgens famn(In the embrace of the great sorrow) - ruclips.net/video/dgQdf907-q0/видео.html
^^ According to his brother Kenneth(who wrote the lyrics to most of Teds music) this song is about Teds emerging problems with mental health and how they grew apart because of Teds paranoia. It was Kenneths way to try to reach out to Ted within their musical collaboration.
This 🙏
Thank you for the suggestions!
I rekommend you to listen to Ted Gärdestads repertoire. Sol vind och vatten, Oh, vilken härlig dag, För kärlekens skull, Jag vill ha en egen måne, Come give me love, Jag ska fånga en ängel, Så mycket bättre, Songs with beautiful melodies and lyrics. There is also a film about Ted's life which is very good.
Ted has an English version of this song. Check out Ted Gärdestad - Blue virgin isles
I don't like it as much as the Swedish but it is still good.
He is still big in sweden and they did a movie about his life
hey I would love to see your a Reaction Video of Jan Werner Danielsen 😊 He was an Norwegian Singer ❤️ you have a song he sings named « Duett » and you have So Much More ❤️
Ted had mental problems, mostly schizophrenia. Why is debated, but he was into narcotic drugs and that's probably the main reason. Then in 1986 Sweden's prime minister was "assassinated" and later on Ted was accused of it in a fake mainstream newspaper. Two years before his death Ted was also in a car crash and had a head injury.
Ted committed suicide by jumping from a bridge down to a railroad track in front of an incoming train 1997.
It was painful to hear the news, we all loved him.
Just asking as a Swede, was he into drugs before or after he got Schizo? Because that can be a big difference in judging him. I wont, but still you know. You develope it in your younger years, just as anxiety, and it can be shown early or late. As myself i have GAD. I wouldnt work without drugs (Nowadays legal medicine) but to claim that he was into that before he got the sickness is a big difference than after he started to feel it.
@@johncenashi5117 He started taking Valium for anxiety in the late 70's which was around the point he was beginning to manifest symptoms which in the early 80's developed into schizophrenia. He certainly used to drugs as a way to numb himself from the voices, so it was primarily driven by coping. It is possible that he may have tried something before his disease while he joined the Bhagwan cult, but even if that's true which we don't know for sure due to the limited amount of information, virtually if not all of it was AFTER his diseases. He couldn't bare the endless voices and hallucinations and the drugs he was on were mainly supplied by doctors who prescribed him things he either wanted or didn't want at all. There are rumors that he bought drugs off market to make himself high in the 90's.
@@johncenashi5117 your post is absolutely wild.
on what criteria do you think i should judge you? not that i would, but...please tell me everything you have done to contribute to your problems and everything you haven't done to prevent it since birth.
@@apoteque How is it wild? I was asking if he had a drug problem before his mental issues started to bloom up. How is that a wild post?
Much better version:
