The most important thing is shoes. If it's Southern Finland, the pavement is covered with ice with water on top because the temperature fluctuates between +-0 C. The cold is easier to handle, just wear layers. Nothing beats Merino wool against your skin.
wool is very good for long term outdoor wear, I usually have wool next to my skin in winter (modt of my work is jnder a roof but no real walks, and as I i live fairly close to the Arctic circle winter is long and temperature below -40 are not unknown,
Frost buildup doesn't happen because it's very cold. It occurs when air is saturated with moisture and this moisture sticks on everything. Usually it happens on certain elevation when warmer and humid air floats top of the dry much colder air. Temperature gap can be 15-20C between these layers. If a hill or fell reach this warmer top layer, the trees and structure will collect a lot of frost. At lower elevations it's pretty rare, might not even happen during one winter. In this video you see how dark the trees are at lower elevation, not completely enveloped with frost like ones uphill.
I’d say that the driving conditions may be worse than in the Nordic countries in Europe. Freezing water on the roads and windows are more common there based on my personal experience. We have snow or dry roads here in Finland in the winter usually.
Also you should brush snow from the car roof for your own safety, because if you have to make hard breaking all the snow from the roof comes on your front window and you can't see anything at all.
actually in Sweden you will be fined oughly €300 if police see you, this as it is considered an unsecured load. repeated offence may mean court appearance and even harder punishment, even loosing licence.
Norway-Sweden-Finland is side by side and very similar climate. In Sweden we have a law that you must clean the windows and you must brush of all snow from the car. A big fine if you don't and if it's very bad you loose your licens. Some more things is good to have in the car and it's tow line and jumper cables and extra warm shoes and clothes. Reflective vest that he mentioned are usually yellow or orange.
Oh yes, those backyard ice spaces were a thing in the 90's, I think the municipalities are getting court cases for letting people fall headfirst on ice or something like that, so it's not a thing in finland anymore. Canada sure is like Funland in winter. In bad visibility conditions depending on black ice conditions and having / not having studded tires mean you may have to go something like 50km/h , or you can go 100km/h. This will either way require a specific driving style to account for ice slides.
I used to do downhill skiing. Had my own equipment. Haven't done that for ages now. I was never that good at it, but it was fun. We also used to play some ice-hockey with friends. Nothing serious. Just having fun. And Saku Koivu...what a player. A legend even, if I dare say so.
i think i heard somewhere that alaska prime city Anchorage is same level latitude like helsinki in finland are,so finland is very north. thanx to very good reaction and have wonderful new week soon.
Yes, Helsinki is on lat 60 and Anchorage is on lat 61. I live at lat 64 (here in Sweden) what is somewhere between Fairbanks and Delta Junction in Alaska (but warmer due to Gulf Stream winds).
finland sweden norway and sometimes denmark has the same winterweather:) u wear thick and warm clothes and the cold is awsome nice air and ure body feels good
Well, Max, Max, Max - you did scare her very well with your horror stories about winter in Finland and Canada! 😁😆😅 - Sujy: it's not THAT bad! 🤗❤️ Next for the more inviting things, please? Yeah? 😇😊 Like "the best things to do / places to do in Finnish Winter / Lapland" -type of videos... 🤭😅🥳
Without detracting from these fine hotels in Rovaniemi and Jukkasjärvi. So why not take a trip to China too and look at the fantastic "IS cities" they have created there and hear your comments about this. You are always the best!
First part of the video was very good. After that... Yes, there are things you should think about if you have a car, but is it really that important to most people coming to Finland? That part just felt exaggerated, and not really that relevant to the general topic. About the cold: In Finland, it is mostly dry in winter. Thus, you can protect yourself against the cold by dressing up correctly. Also, you almost never feel cold inside in Finland. The only places where I have lived and really felt cold in winter have been Denmark and England - the reason simply being that you cannot protect yourself against the humidity.
Hi there, long time no seen! We have had a long and warm autumn here in northern Sweden, snow is about 1,5 month late but we got some two days ago. At the same time temperature fell from negative 5 C to negative 22 in 5-6 hours, not really cold but in such a short time it chocks your body a little, it need time to adjust. Now they say we are getting positive degrees again...crazy weather nowadays! You´re welcom to Sweden anytime! For myself I do prefere Thailand...in winter...with an old body starting to hurt in joints Thailand is so much nicer (but winter is beautiful)!

Max - take her to Canada, and take her to some of the colder places! Yellowknife, Frobisher Bay, Yukon, etc. Should be a great reaction video!

He was my captain during my whole childhood!
A trick for his kind of hat is to put news paper sheets inside of it, it stops the wind and makes it feel a lot less cold.

If you want to see snow, i suggest january. And not Helsinki. (: Welcome to Finland!
True that. My friend died few years ago, drowning in weak ice.
Sorry for your loss.
