German here. One should not take this 'Happy' ranking too serious, because it doesnt measure 'Happiness' at all (which was kind of difficult anyway). This 'Happy ranking' is in reality based on a mixture of criterions like GDP/Capita, Social support, Healthy life expectancy etc. Thats good stuff (and Finns are doing great) but that doesnt translate automatically to 'being happy' or even 'most happy'. If anything then its rather more like a 'Well being index'. But for general reasons (measuring 'feelings' is a bit more complicated) and since there are other more profound rankings (like the Human Development Index (HDI)) I would rather advice to see such a 'Happiness'-ranking more as pop science for entertainment.
14:20 As Finn, I wouldn't say that we are the happiest people, but we are certainly one of the most content people in this world. Greetings from Finland, flying to Thailand on Wednesday 🌞 🌴

We (Home Sapiens) have existed 200000 years and first ones left Africa 70000 years ago and first of them came to today's Finland 12000 years ago after latest ice age. Probably from today's Central Russia (Udmurtia) direction. Continents have been like they are now many million years.
One little thing about the narration of Ahvenanmaa being only Swedish talking. There are also people, who speak Finnish. Not that many, but still. Ahvenanmaa is certainly mostly Swedish speaking. A few years ago I went there and chose to camp. When I checked in to the camping ground, the guy in the reception communicated in English with me. When I checked out there was a different person, who communicated in Finnish with me.
free internet does not mean that it is "free of charge" in all contexts. What Finland has done is to expand the mobile broadband network and also established "hotspots" in society where it is "free of charge" to surf. -What actually has been done is that you offer accessibility for ”everyone" to be able to connect to internet. But of course you have to pay for a fixed subscriptions via fiber, or mobile subscriptions, to be able to surf on places that are not covered by the hotspot's wifi. The expansion of mobile and fiber networks across the country is a principle decision that has been taken in several countries in the Nordics for a long time.
Great video again. Thnx! As long as homo sapiens have walk on this planet, continents have been about same positions, only level of sea have changed. Oldest homo sapiens that have been found is about 300k years old if I remember right. Continents to move take millions (tens and hundreds of them) of years to move and change. I dont know did u mean actually this at the beginning. U at least mentioned sea levels.
Internet is not free. It is just a legal right. Like in the US the right to own guns. Guns are not free either. 🙂Some apartments include internet in the rent.
internet is "free" in libraries and some other places, but we pay for it in our taxes. i don't like that if you want to print something on paper in library they make us pay for it even we have paid for that paper and ink.
@@Gibbetoo Nothing consuming resources should ever be completely free. It invites idiots to exploit free stuff and increase overall cost for everyone or even ruin the whole service. Small price tag is incredibly effective to stop exploitative behavior but doesn't prevent anyone actually needing it from using the service. Free internet access in library is fine because it costs same regardless if it's used or not. People can't waste resources by overusing free wifi in the library. And usage is trivial to manage.
Regarding the Kalevala, Finland has had its own pre-Christian pagan religion much like most of Europe, including our own gods and spirits, concepts of the origin of life, the afterlife etc. The Kalevala is a national epic that depicts just that in the form of a story, much like most European national epics. Elias Lönnrot gathered the book by visiting old rune singers near the Russian border and writing it down, which was never done before. Some of the contents in the Kalevala are made up by Lönnrot himself to make up for a more consistent story though, but even the published work is just a small fraction of all the folk poems he collected. The protagonist in the Kalevala is the old wizard Väinämöinen, who is the inspiration for Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings and every old bearded wizard in fantasy ever since.
Good reflection! How come that the Finnish society got to develop so rapidly after all they have suffered so much from the wars? One answer on that I think is the ”Finnish SISU”. 💪🏼💪🏼 Google that! 😊 And you will find one important answer to that question. The three key words for SISU are: ”Strength, tenacity and endurance. The word SISU gained international spread during their hard fight for its country during the Finnish Winter War, and since then is perhaps one of the Finns' most famous character traits.” Regards from Birgitta in Stockholm. 🇫🇮❤🇸🇪
17:34 "Free Internet? Is that what they're saying?" Not exactly, but kinda. Every single Finn has a right to always get access to a 1MB internet connection. Usually this means that it's a violation of one's rights to deny a person a bare minimum of internet access - like if they're in prison, for example. Another case where this could be seen if a person has a mobile subscription with limited data; even if you run out of your data plan, you still have access to internet, but the speed is reduced to 1MB/s, where it previously might've been something like 30 MB/s. But a 1 MB/s connection isn't really fast enough to do anything except, say, check and send their emails. Definitely not enough to watch HD video on RUclips or anything.
Finland alwas cchooses a presiden that can speak finnish and swedish. And the first country the president visits is sweden. Sweden has put it's capital stockholm so it shall be in the center of both countrus. we have had 0 wars with finland.

I agree with you about well being index.
As a Finn - I agree 100%

Kalevala is to Finland like Iliad and The Odyssey is for Greece. Some of our earliest mythologies preserved in writing.
There's a copy of the crown of Finland's King in Kemi's Gemstone Gallery. You can hear stories of Kalevala by listening a band called Amorphis.

The people of Åland used to be very hostile towards Finns. Just like the other swedes are 😂
@@De_Lirium Can't argue with that from what I've heard.

I meant like migration (from Africa to Europe to North America), vs humans being created at different timeline in different part of the world.
There were no humans alive when the continents were together 335 million years ago, not even Finnish humans. 😆

That story would explain why the people of Espoo are a bit weird.
