    I took about 2 hours to put it together following your video and doing it by myself and I’m 78 years old. I didn’t have squares like you did with the roof “L” brackets and I had to figure it out. Also, the 10 screws for the roof’s metal bracket didn’t go easy without pre-drilled holes, as they wanted to go in crooked without much room to screw them in. Overall a hood assembly and much easier with your detailed and easy to understand verbiage. I can’t thank you enough for your video being available. I gave a thumbs up and I subscribed, as I’d be crazy not to follow your other videos. An ENORMOUS thank you . 😊

    I really appreciate this well-made video - especially the shots showing 2 vantage points. I just bought a similar Suncast shed at Costco. However, the instructions say if the shed is not set on a concrete slab or a wood platform - and secured with lag bolts - the warranty is voided.

    Regarding the bolts, if you are using 2" thick lumber (actual is about 1.75" thick), I'm afraid 2" long bolts (if you are NOT using a forstner bit to sink the heads of the bolt) would be a bit short (you'd only have 0.25" long thread). I used 2.5" long bolts and they worked perfect.

    Suncast specifically says that you should use either a concrete or a wood foundation for their sheds. Otherwise the shed can easily get off kilter and will come out of alignment. Also it's recommended not to use a power screw driver as you can easily strip the screw holes in the plastic. Just FYI.

    I have a Suncast shed I've had from many years ago. I had to buy a giant sheet of plywood and have the hardware cut it out to roughly the size I needed so I could bring it home and finish cutting it the three shelves. It's one of those things where you can't just get a board because a regular board isn't deep enough. So you have to buy a giant sheet that gets cut down.
    But I could tell right away the shed was flimsy as it's blow mold and flexes. Mine is an older design, but it would just have a cutout in the rear for the shelves and little ledges on the sides that could just barely hold the board up. But I eventually started having boards crashing down. And that would cause the sides to bow out, which could be that way for many weeks or so before I noticed. And the shelves would periodically crash down and it would be worse as the sides would stay bowed out with time.
    So I'd have to cut out a thin piece of wood out and nail it to the sides of the boards to make them a little wider to make up for the shed bowing. But still had crashes every so often. Will have to make them a little more wider now. I never looked a drilling and mounting brackets underneath because it's blow mold plastic, so there is just a thin piece of plastic with air in the middle of it.
    They really should have designed these where you could mount the shelves better into place instead with brackets of just those little hollow plastic pieces that jute out.

    The hinges are designed so that the bolt compresses the metal hinge onto the resin plastic. If you don't tighten the bolt sufficiently (difficult), it will not hold well. The hinges must first be properly and fully snapped on. Important Tip (instructions are wrong): It's much easier if you loosely thread on the bolt first before snapping the hinge onto the resin plastic.

    My older Suncast shed is smaller than yours. But on mine, the plastic nubs on the sides that hold up the board shelves, that plastic part is only 2" deep and only sticks out 1". So I have three 13" deep pieces of wood resting on 2" deep piece of plastic on the sides. My boards have to be inside the back slot or the boards come crashing down.
    I followed the instructions on mine, but I think the board should have been slightly wider and slightly deeper than instructed. As with it all brand new, I could slide the board around a little and get the rear of the board to come out of the groove and fall down. Which those periodic crashes caused the sides of the shed to bow out making the board shelves barely able to stay up. It was like a balancing act and I guess the wind or whatever would causes things to move just a little to get the board to pop out the rear cutout and crash down.
    I'm going to be nailing some extra pieces of wood on the sides of the wood shelves to help make up the play from the bowing out more and more over the years, and now add small extra pieces of wood on the front corners to try and eliminate the play that lets the board move to the front slightly and thus lets the rear of the board crash down dumping everything.
    They redesigned your version where the side walls almost supports the entire depth of the board. And on mine, there are only these little nubs to try and keep the board from moving too far forward, which yours they redesigned to where the board is in a cutout on the sides to help keep it from moving too far forward.
    Part of the reason my shed has such a poor design causing my shelves to crash down is the rear corners of my shed are rounded, so I have these huge 45* angle cutouts of the rear corners of my shelves to where I only have a tiny 2" deep plastic lip on each side holding the 13" deep boards up. Also a few of those large plastic nuts on the inside on mine screwing the shed together, the heads have broken off. I think probably from the shelves crashing down.
    Just a terrible design I've been stuck with having shelves crash down several times a year as these things are too expensive to just replace, plus the giant sheet of wood needed for a new shed is an extra $50+.

    66 year old granny here. My two cents…
    A girlfriend and I put the walls & roof together last weekend. We had trouble with one of the walls for some reason - WD40 did the trick.
    I had all sorts of trouble with the 2 door latches. Again - watched tons of videos but the little lever would NOT fit in the hole of the plastic pieces. I switched them, tried a gazillion different configurations. I tried WD40 - nothing. After quitting and letting the stuff sit outside - it rained. When I tried it again - voila. Have no idea why that worked - I did nothing different.
    After reading a gazillion reviewers complain about the door hinges, I watched a slew of videos on how to install them. So today - I tried it by myself. They ARE difficult. The hard part - for me - was getting one hinge on each door to snap into the wall. The other 2 went fine and but the 3rd one on each side was awful. To be clear - they DO SNAP in place - you have an obvious, audible snap.
    I also had some weird plastic piece that connected the 2 handle pieces together. Didn’t see anyone else with that so I broke it off. Handles went on pretty easily - but they are plastic. Some folks put a metal latch on - which I may try.
    My best advice - watch videos. They are a huge help. Good luck!

    I'm curious why you didn't anchor the shed to that panel on the wall behind the shed. If you do any edits, you may want to mention that there are holes in the four corners for adding anchors to secure the shed to the ground. Also, the shed should be wide enough to hold pretty any bike but it may be necessary to turn the front wheel to shorten the length. Two adult bikes side by side will likely take up nearly the entire shed.

    • @carlytackles
      @carlytackles  Год назад

      I had thought about anchoring the shed to the panel, but I didn’t really need to in its current location. When we got new siding, we removed the panel attached to the wall.
      Good call out on the anchor holes in the four corners. Thanks for your comment.

    Excellent video! I want to get one of these real soon, I have a spot picked out for it, so you have had yours almost a year now, how has it been holding up? does it still stay dry inside? and is there any venting for air? if not that might be why it caused mold. Thanks.

    • @carlytackles
      @carlytackles  2 года назад

      Shed has survived a whole year, including some major wind storms and tornadoes. I haven’t seen any signs of mold. The groove in the front where the door lock goes into will catch some water but it doesn’t run into the shed more than that. You might read in others post about the door hinges not really connecting to the side walls, i agree with the other comments. There is another hole in the black bracket, i would drive a screw in there to secure the door hinge to the wall, it did not come with these screws.

    Do you need to anchor the shed on Concrete and what anchors? How do you keep one door stationary so it does not fly in wind

    • @carlytackles
      @carlytackles  Год назад +1

      I did not anchor the shed but it is tucked in a little nook that is protected from high winds. I believe the instructions encouraged anchoring it down. I am not familiar with concrete anchoring options. Sorry.
      In regards to opening one door without the wind blowing the other: I typically dont need both doors open at the same time. One door has “locks” the slide in the grooves of the shed which can be used to hold one door closed. Depending on what you have surrounding the shed, a paver in front of each door may help hold them open or close.

    Excellent video! I was able to get my shed assembled but I had a question about the upper latch. At the start of the video, it looks like you're able to slide the pin all the way up but mine is hitting the roof. The bottom latch has a pocket that it fits in but the roof doesn't seem to have the same recess for the pin. Do you remember if you had to drill or cut out an opening in order for your upper latch pin to slide fully up when closed?

    • @carlytackles
      @carlytackles  2 года назад +1

      I did not have to drill out anything special for the pin. The pin should go in the groove in the roof

    2nd guessing myself after starting my foundation. I'm putting up 2 of these, did you anchor your shed to the foundation or has it been fine without it. I poured 1 concrete slab, tomorrow doing another but may not if I don't have to. I just don't want my shed blown over.... even though securing to concrete isn't going to be a picnic either. I'm mid 60s maybe I'm over thinking this.

    Thank you for the video. Just purchased this shed last night and hope to get it all put together today. How is it holding up now that it has been a few months? Do you think you could put the shed together inside a building and then carry it to the location outside?

    • @carlytackles
      @carlytackles  2 года назад

      The shed is ligher, that with help, you can probably carry it. It is also larger, may not be so easy to grip and hold.
      You may see some comments about the hinges, and I agree with those comments. One of the viewers said that they drilled in some screws through the hinge to the side wall - there is a hole in the hinge to do that - i would recommend doing that step.
      All else has been great, it survived a really cold and windy winter.

    Question, i purchased same shed. Using 2xX wood shelves, isnt that too thick, and does it compromise the amount of weight you can place...(would 1x12x6) be better?
    Also, i noticed some water on front of entrance, it seems to drip down onto top of door, then into shed....r u exhibiting issues when it rains?

    • @carlytackles
      @carlytackles  Год назад

      Rain: i see some rain water in the front groove where the door latched to the floor, but nothing more than that. My shed might be more in a protective area preventing the water.
      Shelves: honestly, the shelves have held up great. The shed is used mostly for garden supplies like pots, smaller bags of soil, plant food, etc, on the lighter side.
      Do what you feel comfortable with. I had those boards in the garage from a different project so used what I had. And maybe I got lucky, but the shed is holding up really well.

      @carlytackles  2 года назад

      We didnt anchor it the ground. It seems to be protected in it is current location. The previous homeowners had a different shed that they bolted to the house, probably not an ideal solution, but it did work, except when it was time to put up a new one.

      I have had many people ask how i secured it, so you are not alone in your concern. With the shed full of garden supplies, i am unable to move it with my body, i tried recently. My shed was also tucked in a bit behind the house so it is more protected from winds.
