I had the fortunate pleasure of meeting Mitch on two different occasions, once in Dayton, and once in West Palm Beach. He was super nice, gave me some free cds, and even offered to pay for my gas (I wouldn't take his money) when I told him I drove over three hours for the show. RIP, Mitch. Your comedy will live on forever.
He's really honest, open, and down to Earth. He had his demons, but he was obviously a very cool guy. Its cool how he just talks to the interviewer so casually, without the pretentiousness of it all.
Tears for this person known as Mitch... I remember when he first appeared... He doesn't do skits..his material and timing is perfect. Damn drugs... they've destroyed so many... Feb. 2020
@@michaelmccoy1794 Sorry you had that experience, but not all use is abuse. Heroin is not inherently bad, just like alcohol, weed or caffeine or other drugs. People use these substances for a reason and they can be used to enhance certain experiences or reach certain mindsets that otherwise would be impossible or very hard to attain (or you can just use them to deal with anxiety or to feel good which isn't inherently bad, because most of what we do has to do with changing and improving our state of mind). Of course they can be damaging, especially if one is uninformed about the direct physical consequences, appropriate dosage, and especially also if one's dealing with other issues in one's life that makes one rely on the substances for one's own well-being. But that doesn't make them bad. You can only use them in a bad way, just like you can use them in a good way.
Been recovering for 34 yearsb seen 1000's of addicts & non. 1 in 50 can handle heroin, if that. Talk about your experience but don't generalize about something you know nothing about, which is obvious from your comment.
This is a great interview. Mitch comes across as the genuinely nice guy he by all accounts was. The interviewer is clearly a fan and has a a pleasant demeanor and interviewing style.
I actually thought the interviewer was pretty composed, considering he was a college kid interviewing a relatively big celebrity like Mitch. Pretty good stuff.
"one thing i gotta do is get out of the hotel more. i just stay there and sleep.." Never came out of the hotel room on tour cause he was in there shootin heroin between shows. Hate it for him. RIP Mitch. You were one of the good ones.
absolutely love Mitch. Greatest comic. So laid back, the type of dude you could just chill with. Always modest. If there was a way to sacrifice yourself to bring him back, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Anyone who doesn't think that this man was a comedy genious needs to watch the Comedy Central Special (it was probably one of his last TV appearances). His speech was slower, his demeanor kinder, you just knew that he was battling something,(or had battled it, but was too late) but still could see the funny in anything. (Dufrane, party of three, your table is now available). God has a lot of good comics up there...RIP Mitch, (and Rodney, Richard, etc). I LOVE(D) Mitch.
I have not heard of this guy before,a nd now I am fully committed to him. He is so funny, and such a sweet guy. But what a sad end. Long time ago now, but still sad. Oh well. Some of him remains...
As a fellow Minnesotan, offering to pay for your gas is something I totally understand! LOL People in other parts of the country mock our "Minnesota Nice" reputation, but you know that despite what happened to him, he had a good heart. Such a shame! We miss him!
Actually, I thought the part about sleeping all the time was a dead give away. By the sounds of it, he probably shot up in his hotel all day. From what I gather he was rather awkward and shy, he was probably self-medicating some social disorder or something. Sad, he seems so nice.
watching the begining, the backround looked very familiar. No wonder, its ASU!! Wish I was on campus when he was there….damn! He seems to be clean and sober then. Maybe it was all the sunshine :)
I really liked this interview. The only thing that could have made it better was if the interviewer would have held the microphone closer to Mitch's mouth so Mitch didn't have to lean over to talk into it and then he wouldn't have been so insecure [for lack of a better word] about the sound quality. I love Mitch's smile. =]
Today I watched a tribute to Mitch with an Avril Lavigne and I cried my eyes out. I bet his wife Lynn cries every day I wish knew him because I think he was so unusual so quirky and so intelligent. I have seen all his videos and I know ver 50 of his jokes by heart. I even have a T-shirt that says “Who can eat at a time like this?”RIP I really miss you little brother!”
3:33 Letterman's aloofness gave Mitch the idea to write "has anyone seen me on the Letterman show? He has 4 million viewers and I don't know where the hell they are..Most people have seen me at the store.. " Good job Mitch...DOUBLE WHAMMY!
Man - I am jealous. I just saw Stephen Lynch when he came to Minneapolis in November. He was fabulous. To see him & Mitch together must have been fabulous!
the stage fright is also, incidentally is what lead to his overdosing, much like kurt cobain. They had a penchant for drugs before the fame, which they turned to more often to deal with fame and a lack of confidence.More fame, more demands, more money, more drugs... sad they couldnt love themselves as much as the rest of us did... do.
If I could take one person who has ever lived as a representation of how a human should be. I'd take Mitch. I'm gutted that I'll never get to meet him because I'd have made it my life mission to do so.

That was beautiful man

Can't believe this guy was thriving in my lifetime and I didn't discover him until after his death.
I so agree!!!
Wait'll you hear about Tupac....
He probably would have gotten big like other comics today, like Burr and Chappelle, etc.
Me too and we were almost same age
Unforced humor with Mitch -what a legend ! Thx
So, in general, Mitch's act... was not an act... he really was like that.... which is awesome.
RIP
talent taken too far
That was great footage of a great comic!! EDBASSMASTER!!
Yoooooo Boshhhh, what you doing round here!? Haha
Psh! For real though
Og comment!!
PSH
Would ya just look at that
One thing I miss about Mitch was his brutal honesty. Didn't hesitate to put Comedy Central on blast for his borderline robbery recording contract.
absolutly love this interview. i never heard of him until about15 years after he died. have to learn all about him now. i really missed the boat.
Feel exactly the same ..
great interview!!! Friendly, not prying, and I think that brought out Mitch perfectly. Truly missed.
The dude was more brilliant as an entrepreneur than I thought! He knew the game and played it well. Rest in Two you beautiful man!
Mitch is the definition of cool.
Yep!
"I like the sun man, I'm way into it so this place makes me happy" This dude was so awesome, I feel like everyone knows a dude like this
Mitch, as a fellow Minnesotan, I'm sad that you are gone! I still to this day laugh at your jokes...you were one in a million.

Seems like the nicest guy ever

Not the drugs fault, you can take them responsibly, even heroin

Gentle soul. RIP.
Mitch was like a modern day Rodney Dangerfield. So sad that we lost such a great stand up too early.
Mitch was Mitch, no need at all to compare him to anybody. Don't understand why people say that .
@@glenndouglas8822because he very obviously reminds them of another person whose style involved extremely funny one liners ?
