WINTER GRIT | Outdoor Idaho

Cowboys on galloping horses with skiers in tow chase away the winter doldrums in central Idaho. Along the cliffs of the Snake River Canyon in southern Idaho, climbers use ice picks and crampons to scale tall columns of ice. Powder hounds in eastern Idaho hitch a helicopter ride to remote mountaintops to carve up fresh snow from an overnight storm. And the Sawtooth Mountains play host to a hardy group of mountain guides intent upon avalanche assessment and slope stability.
