  • In 2023, Idaho backcountry skier and filmmaker Dan Noakes set off on the adventure of a lifetime, a ski traverse of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. On his journey, Noakes was faced with the “ghosts” of the people who once lived on this land. He filmed his journey of survival, perseverance and powder skiing to create an Outdoor Idaho program that will astonish some and inspire others.

Great video. I love the wilderness areas we have in Idaho. We hunt along the edge of one of them. We have been back there for a week at a time and only seen one other human. These wilderness areas were definitely formed at a cost and for some that cost was steep, but for the majority it is special to have the ability to go get lost in a wilderness and find yourself

This is cool. I hunt in the Frank and am new to backcountry skiing. Never thought of doing a traverse like this. Sounds amazing

Dan is one of the best skiers in the country and his documentary exposing not only the beauty of Idaho and the raw athletic talent he's honed over the years but also the deceitful acquisition of lands by Marxist educated bureaucrats who invented an idea of wilderness that never existed in the first place to "preserve" it so they could feel good about themselves while pushing an anti-humanist agenda, is an accomplishment he should be proud of in perpetuity.

Pretty please don't make statements like "We'll ski mountains noone's ever skied before" because I know (knew, they're the ghosts now trying to tell you) many on the miners from in there who made their own skies and skies every hill & ridge in pursuit of food or their living.
Let my Grampa finish his thought when you clip him.

This is the worst episode of outdoor Idaho, a show I love and has helped me fall in love with Idaho. The focus should have been on the homesteaders, pioneers, and miners of the FC wilderness. The controversy between saving the land and their claims. Not this ski bum and the silly copyright free braaaaaaahm dramatic music clips. I hope this isn't a portend of shows to come.
