Is the Kindle Scribe for you? If so, what is your main use going to be?

    • @maribethbousum4656

I got the scribe primarily because I wanted a larger screen. I love the idea of reading digitally on a book sized e-ink screen. So the scribe is near perfect from that standpoint. I do occasionally highlight and make notes in non-fiction books, but that’s still secondary to me. I also decided to keep my paper white as a “car kindle” that will travel with me, while the scribe is my at home reading device.

I use a remarkable 1 regularly. I find it great for pdfs and note taking, though recently, I've switched to taking my notes on 4x6 index cards and they are honestly easier for me to organize and go over again. I still use it for a lot of my reading and it is AMAZING for math. To be able to scroll down and scroll down and get more page is so much nicer than actual paper.

    • @KeliFancher

Very nice. I also use index cards, well actually closer to half index cards for notes. There's bits of paper stuck in all sorts of books around my house 😅

I use mine mainly for crosswords, word searches, and tracing pages (I got all this stuff on Etsy). I couldn't love it more. I also like writing in my diary, and reading books with larger text. It's the perfect Kindle for me. I also like the larger size for cookbooks. Nice review :)

I heavily considered getting a reMarkable 2 because of the better writing and import/export features, but ultimately, its lack of a light is what made me go with the Scribe instead. I'm legally blind, so for me, the light is a must and I'm sad the reMarkable doesn't have one. Hopefully the Scribe will do the trick. Also, the larger screen will be a plus for reading more comfortably on particularly bad vision days.

I feel the same way about digital "writing" feel vs the "analog" feel of the Scribe. I'm surprised how much I am enjoying journaling on my Scribe! I also have a tablet and yes the s-pen is awesome but I like you, get distracted!

I’m looking to buy it in the future as a replacement for my Kindle DX from 2010-2013 era. That device just lost support for 3g after all this time and I have been waiting for a much sharper text display and a larger kindle.
Finally, Amazon has made a better version of the device with all the added lights and speed of the newer devices.

@@KeliFancher Haha, that’s a very positive way of thinking that! I have several Kindle of different generations, including the ancient DX. I still use my Kindle paper white for bedside reading, but only carry Supernote daily and for travels, since it pretty much has everything I need (well, no light, of course, but this is relatively easy to solve externally).

Here is the language from the refreshed Amazon scribe webpage that explicitly talks about future updates; they should have led with that!:
“Coming Soon: Kindle Scribe provides regular, free software updates that include new features. In the coming months, Kindle Scribe will add more writing tools, including new brush types and copy/paste tools, additional notebook organization options, and the ability to send documents to Kindle Scribe directly from within Microsoft Word.”

I'm really interested in the Boox Note Air 2 (not the name, which is terrible, but the device itself) because it seems almost like what the Kindle should've been. It's an e-reader/ e-ink tablet running android that seems to have much better note taking abilities than the Scribe but allows you to install the Kindle app so you can read all of your Kindle content. The only thing holding me back is the price - it's twice the price (give or take) of the Scribe, and that feels like a lot to spend on a device like this. If you ever pick one up I'd love to see a video with your thoughts on it.

Boox tab ultra is the best of all the above. As an android based eink device the owners is on you to not install the focus sucking apps. But use it for all the things you described to include kindle. I got one two weeks ago and wish it had been around for years. Absolutely love it
