  • Franz Sedlacek was a famous artist from Austria who lived between the two World Wars. He was known for creating strange and mysterious paintings that make you feel a bit uneasy.
Sedlacek's art was inspired by Romanticism, but he also learned a lot on his own.
Even though he became well-known during his lifetime, people didn't pay much attention to his work until the 1980s.
Sedlacek was born in 1891 in Wroclaw and grew up in Linz, where he was influenced by a nationalist and anti-Semitic environment. He studied chemical engineering in Vienna and helped start an artists' group in Linz.
In the early 1920s, he began painting using techniques he learned from old masters. His paintings often showed strange creatures or mixed modern life with gloomy landscapes.
