Dame Maggie was the highlight of the show, in my humble opinion, and often the comic relief as well. She had the best lines in the cast and her delivery was impeccable.
Absolutely in my opinion one of the best series ever produced for television and cinema. After all theses years its like seeing old friends again. The production quality, the fine acting, the music score all are an ensemble that support the richness and sentiment of a unforgettable story.
I love this show the music the way they dress and no bad words it's clean, I to feel as if I'm in another world when I here the music. I truly wish I could afford to dress like the ladies. Their shoes are gorgeous, and everything about Downton Abbey is perfect.
Alan Leech (Tom Branson) ssid the wedding scene was filmed on his 40th birthday. 🎂I can't think of a better way to celebrate your special day. When Lucy and Tom were waltzing on the balcony at sunset. in the first film...sublime swooning. 😍
Julian Fellowes really outdid himself with this series. I love the Gilded age too, but the immersion in Downton Abbey is unmatchable. People poke fun at the reuse of the music, but its a good way of setting the mood and scene. It felt like one of the last made for television shows, like you could tune into any episode and get somewhat of a feel for story happening without having to start from the beginning. Every other show, including the historical ones are going for more long form stories with constant cliff hangers. I love me some suspense, but short stories are a good pallet cleanser.
I agree! That's actually how I got into the series. I watched a random episode with a friend and it was easy to follow. Then decided to binge the past season to understand some back stories. Sorta like Law and Order SVU.
Agreed. This DowntonAbbey series, even with its beautiful production values, is empty. It is all style and little substance. For those old BBC productions, I love Duchess of Duke Street.
Love Downton so much. The music, the dresses and all these amazing characters who bring Downton to live. ❤❤❤ Saw the seasons and the movies so often, I don't know how much. ❤❤❤❤ Great show. ❤❤❤
I absolutely adore this series. And l love Tom Branson/ Allen Leech. This whole opening film of the "Abbey" & Tom's marriage to Lucy, along with the music just makes me smile, even though l know it's make-believe! Can't wait until the next film & even maybe another series. ❤
Downton Abbey wouldn’t be such great series without Dame Maggie Smith ,and yes it was a great cast all around ,she was perfect in it ,what a legend ,rest in peace beautiful !
I love how Tom is everybody’s favorite good little “tamed” pet Irish-turned-Anglo boy. 😢 The Irish grandmother in me is shaking her head because that doesn’t look like a Catholic wedding either! ☘️
I love Downton Abbey as much as the next person, but I’m surprised that nobody has noticed that the wedding scene with upstairs and downstairs enjoying the festivities as if they are all friends is far from reality. There would never have been such friendly co-mingling of the classes. Then or now. Just saying.
I think everyone knows this is an improbabilty but so is Tom’s status as an official member of the family. In real life during that time, He and Sybil would have been cast out after marriage
Everyone, at least most everyone, understands this. Downton Abbey shows the exceptional , which did happen exceptionally. Without this drama, there would’ve been no success nor any progress in fact or in fiction.
@@erinestep6882 yes this is true. Props to Robert though. I’m not sure how forgiving I will be if my daughter’s husband made a run for it and left my pregnant daughter to fend for herself in a foreign country while evading the police 😅
Can you please upload the first ten minutes of the first Downton movie again? It was removed and it’s such a wonderful opening for a film - it’s so cinematic and the way the wonderful music climaxes just as the letter makes its way to downton is so wondrously satisfying. Please upload it again - I miss it 😂
I love this series and the movies. Can't wait for the new movie next year. What would make for an interesting series would be after Cora and Robert got married, and all the transitions for both of them.
I love Downton a new era because, they got to go to France (most of them I feel bad for the others) but the ending really touched my heart I won't spoil it but it really made me cry and no doubt the 3rd film will aswell. I am counting down to September 2025 already. But Downton 3 could change everything depending on what Julian does either Cora or Robert could end up passing away as opposed to ending the franchise. Showing "Downton no more". Hear me out: if Cora dies his lordship collapses with grief and can't handle the estate (the same goes for Mary but not as much) leading Downton to start going downhill. Or if Robert dies Mary and Tom are left with grief and the estate and not being able to cope leading it to run down you also have finances raising and other money issues on top of that so it would be interesting to see how they could try hold up with it all. But then again just a theory Julian probably won't do it and leave us in more suspense 😂
I would think that Downton Abbey would feature a young adult George (Mary and Mathews son) being raised to take over as the new Lord Grantham with the ever world changing emergence of WWII in which case George may die in the war signalling the permanent end to the Downton estate... Maybe even being a victim of bombing raids that happened in England by the Germans.
@@kyleenglot9184 That could be a good thing as Robert would bond with George alot more as we don't really see him in the series or films bonding with George it's more Sybie he bonds with so it could show how him and Mary prepare him for the role. WWII could be a good thing. It depends how much time Julian Jumps from the last film the last film was in the period of 1927 and WWII started at 1939 that's 12 years soo it's highly unlikely that the war will be in it but without the war you could still have the preparation for George to take over His Lordship when Robert gets to old for it. Adding to George becoming a lord he would need to find a wealthy wife like Robert had to do with Cora which would be interesting because it could start off the past whispering to them we have already heard Robert say that he only married Cora because of money when his mother said about there peculiar marriage in the first season of Downton. That could lead to breaking the marriage if certain things happen and possibly one of them taking a heart attack (probably Robert because he had an Ulcer burst ages ago).
Wasn't Violet's backstory was that she was the daughter of a broke baronet? And that the Earl of Grantham was also broke when she married him? What the heck was she doing in the south of France, and who was paying for her trip?
I'm confused. Is this the third movie or is this part of a television sequel. I recall in the last movie that the Dowager (Maggie Smith) character died? And here she is again?
There have been two movies. At the end of the first one, Violet told Mary she was ill. This is the second movie, and Violet dies at the end. The third movie comes out next September (2025).
Dame Maggie was the highlight of the show, in my humble opinion, and often the comic relief as well. She had the best lines in the cast and her delivery was impeccable.

Yes, the music is everything 🙌🏻
Love that Edith and Mary's relationship has changed drastically. They seem more nicer to each other and I love to see it.
How I will miss Dame Maggie Smith .. in EVERYTHING!
Something happens when you listen to this music suddenly you are transferred to that time place n era and you become part of Downtown
Acabou de acontecer EXATAMENTE isso comigo!😊🥰
Beautifully said! Bless you!
Agree. Love all the music from the series and movies.
Agreed. The music is classically transformative and it happens upon every hearing moment.
You’re so right!
"Do I look as if I'd turn down a villa in the south of France?!?" I quite agree.
Was thinking, there's their next t-shirt, after "What's a weekend?"...
Can't wait. I do need some glamour in my life, even if it's second hand. Downtown has always lifted my spirits in this miserable world of today! 💗💗💗
This is not a true picture of life under the aristocracy, the servants actually had a very miserable life, but it is escapism at its best
Best programme ever in TV. IT was a tv date every Sunday in our family - all ages loved it.
The most beautiful thing is, how everyone just seems to be so genuinely happy for them.
I love how the Dowager watches out for all of her grandchildren and gives them the security they deserve.
I get goose bumps hearing this music . DOWNTON need to be on everyday
Agree. It should be on TV somewhere in the world every day. (Like Friends).
😊 Branson finally gets his happiness, my heart is so happy for him.
