      The thing is, it's THIS complex, wanna know why?
      Cuz people complained they were falling asleep in the game, "too easy"
      Some fuckers want to be pressing 20 buttons to feel active... because they can't admit they feel burnt out from the fucking game. I play games where it's 5 buttons, and it's fun, but after 2-3 months I play something else
      That's healthy.
      Not overbloating the hell out of it so old players can stop threatening they'll quit the game because they can't admit they need to play something else and come back to WoW later.

    it's defintely too late for shadowlands, i don't see them reworking 36 specs 2 months prior release by removing 5-6 modifires from their spec to up the baseline power of rotations and then also reworking their talent trees as well.
    I fully agree with the notion that this should happen and the classic releases show that it's much healthier for the game to have simple rotations with no modifiers and the only requirement being gear, easy gameplay against hard raid mechanics is what people want not a piano rotation with 15 weak auras pinging alarm sounds for every proc, cooldown and upcoming mechanic that will one shot you so you have to use defensives.
    Also this really creates and enviroment where people are more likely to invite people when you don't need to run a criminal background check on their logs to see their perforamnce, covenants, gear and clear times. Retail is too grindy, to complex and to competitive to be fun for most casual players and statistics from raid and m+ dungeons show it.

  • @mahradamini4414
    @mahradamini4414 Год назад +30

    The problem with these systems is that us as a 5-15% of the advanced player (1-3% being pro) base don't have a problem with it because no matter how many of these systems they add we can balance it into our characters. Now if you simply try to pug 10 mythic 15 dungeons in a row right now at the end of the shadowlands with 2k rio people (not the most casual, but normal players), you will see that they are struggling hard and still cant do propper dammage with their main characters. Now if you are not a toxic shit and realise that the struggle is real for a casual player, because they are there just to have fun but a shit system is there to prevent them from it, then you realise that "yeah, blizzard needs to fix this" not only in pvp but in pve as well. Middle grounds never hurt :P

    • @simkont6793
      @simkont6793 Год назад +1

      Idk I feel like the reason they are not fixing it for pvp is because of pve. Pve rotations are only fun and interesting because of extra buttons to press and cds to line up and save for places were you get the most out of them. Rune of power for example is a shit ability for pvp and no1 picked it over incanters flow in pvp before it auto dropped on bust after it auto dropped everyone picked it. In pve it was a fun ability to use in m+ or raids as a fire mage because it made you think about it's placement and timing also was another button to press instead of just fireball. What I'm saying is imo pvp would be better if they removed rune of power, pve would be worse and that goes for a ton of cds and modifiers.

      True, if something is restraining about 80% of subscribers and they give voice to their distaste towards it then it should be changed for the better. M+ in season 4 is a bad joke for certain specs because they start with massive handicaps, like being ballanced around pvp or raiding content

    • @dmt472
      @dmt472 Год назад +1

      @@simkont6793 In PvE it is equally unfun when 80% of your spec's damage is on a 2 minute CD. Especially because for other specs that's not the case, e.g. survival hunter can do super high damage without any CDs and it feels GOOD. A few other specs can too - this expansion they have been the meta classes. The classes that can't just don't make it much past 15s. In the last 2-3 seasons of SL the design has moved more towards CD reduction (at least in PvE) which feels much better than flat CDs, because your performance affects your CD's cd directly, the better you play the higher you can peak.

  • @samisuhonen9815
    @samisuhonen9815 Год назад +2

    I want there to be complexity in WoW PvP. BUT I'd rather have it in utility and stuff. Not like, how you do damage. Because if just doing decent damage is behind a huge skill ceiling and knowledge barrier, no new player will have fun. They will pick up a hunter, and wonder why their aimed shot does 5k damage when the other guy does 60k crits. Surprise, the other hunter researched all of his modifiers, legendaries, conduits, soulbinds, tier set effects, etc.
    And I personally nolife wow, I'm reasonably good playing at 2400 in arena, always topping damage in BGs. But I can never get my friends back into WoW. They always give it a shot at the start of an expansion, we go into BGs, and they never do big damage because they would have to first research the optimal build that makes their abilities do literally 5 times more damage if used just right. And they quit before getting invested in the game, because it's not fun to tickle the enemy while getting oneshot.
    Just make abilities hit reasonably hard baseline, don't put like 40 different modifiers for one ability into the game.

  • @MehrdadParthian

    i think the shear volume of modifiers for spells is not the issue necessarily, but rather its their effect. i think it is great that the amount of damage/healing you can do can be augmented by multiple factors, but instead of having such big numbers, they should be more trivialized, while the skill itself should have a considerable damage by itself, here's my suggestion on how:
    for example, here pvp modifier would add 8% more damage instead, while rune of power would give 10% SP, and other buffs would add a small percentage in this range as well, but instead, the skill itself would do 12k damage instead of 2k, and the modifiers altogether (aside from crit chance) can bring it up by up to 6k more damage (50%). so if you crit without any buffs you would still do 24k damage, while if you crit with all of the modifiers that you can gather, you would do 36k damage. the difference here is that you do around 12k more damage, which is like doing another extra frostbolt with raw damage.
    this way, you can do a decent damage without any buffs, while if you gather every single buff there is in the game, you can do 50% more damage, which incentivizes people to go gather buffs, but at the same time doesn't make the skill's damage trivial without those buffs which wouldn't dissuade a green from even entering bgs if he doesn't have all the buffs in the world in the first place. at least thats my opinion.

    Classes could probably do with some pruning in retail but the danger is the possibility of removing things that people like. I know I’d be devastated if they took crusade away from ret pallies for example.
    They’d have to pick carefully what to remove or possibly what abilities, talents, etc. can be merged together to turn 2 buttons into one.
    The easier part they should definitely get on top of changing soon is the baseline damage getting buffed and the cooldown power getting nerfed.

    • @TheWideMurloc
      @TheWideMurloc Год назад

      @@tefazDK but look at what many of those modifiers are in venruki’s example. Lonely winter, deep shatter, rune of power, ice form. Lots of abilities and talents. How do you cut those modifiers off without removing the abilities? I personally would be very upset if they removed lonely winter since I hate the water elemental, and I’m sure people would be miffed if they cut out rune of power.
      It’s not just about the number of buttons on your bar, but the number of skills and passives that need to work together for viable damage output. Yeah changing the numbers so base damage is higher and cooldowns are less effective would help, but doing JUST that would necessitate all the skills that add modifiers be nerfed to such a point where, individually, they seem useless, and only become useful at all when used together with all the others.
      Granted I think it’s better that way than it is now, but the problem still remains to a lesser degree, so they also need to consolidate some effects together into one, and remove some others that people aren’t that attached to. Slick ice, for example, asmon didn’t even know what it is, so maybe don’t bring that back

    18:20 the naga got popular in Wotlk. You had more binds in pvp than you did in MoP. This is coming from a warriors perspective, but in MoP I had maybe 2 action bars full of abilities, and a 3rd with my macros. In Wotlk all of my bars are full. Most people tend to think that pruning started in WoD, but for warrior it started in MoP with half of your toolkit being gutted toward the start, like with stances.

    WOTLK was perfect, played DK/Pally/Hunter. Intro of "pet battles" and getting slaughtered by store bought pets for 5 bucks was its start to a steady 10+ year decline lol. Changes happened frequently, raids came out faster and dumber, pretty much quit after that, started to feel like "pay-to-win". Be interesting if they redo all the same mistakes or learn from them.

    As some1 who came back to wow a few months ago after not having played the game since WoD. 11:10 perfectly describes my feeling of PvP.
    1. I don't know what the different classes do anymore
    2. Sometimes when i'm hit i take 5% of my HP in damage, sometimes i take 60%. Both are from the same spell.
    3. Every single class and spec can heal themselves for absurd amounts and have good mobility.
    I even went to a google searching spree to try and find an answer as to why i'm dealing minimum amounts of dmg vs people with the same HP as i've got, and why I sometimes just explode. The game was just frustrating as i was unable to understand what was going on. Too many factors influencing each and every spell and cast.

    I was watching an older arena video where the level cap was 120 and people literally had millions of HP and we're hitting eachother for hundreds of thousands of damage per ability. I was so glad I didn't play that expansion because it looked fricking ridiculous lol I completely agree that the olden days though simple was far superior in terms of a satisfying combat system. I came back for Shadowlands for a few months and the number of modifiers and buffs and item pros was just stupid, it was way over the top and wasn't fun in my opinion. TBC and Wrath made gear and classes feel more rewarding and engaging because I didn't need buffs, procs, talents, legendaries, covenant abilities, etc just to do optimal damage with one ability. Even then it was just too much crap on my screen. I couldn't stand how many abilities there were in Shadowlands, I always felt like I had like 5-10 too many abilities.

      What argument are you trying to make? These both are bad for gameplay. You can't go from one extreme to another. Players don't want to try to figure out how to use the many modifiers that this game has. It is too complex for even normal players to figure out. If your top players have to calculate how many modifiers to do a lot of damage is ridiculous for average players. Simplifying it is even worse because the work to gain that damage is worthless. There needs to be a balance in the middle of both of these.
