Thanks for referencing the Quake similarity. People keep comparing it to Heretic but the only thing they've got in common is magic weapons. Level architecture, the dark fantasy setting, the Lovecraftian monsters, the hubworld difficulty and chapter select... These are all elements of Quake, and it's weird that everyone keeps mentioning Heretic instead.
Played once through on hard, and again through evil difficulty. Great game overall, but I insist that the sun-realm has the most interesting mixture of enemy types. The arcane expense is 100% my favorite for music and visuals though.
Can't wait to get my steam deck so I can play all of my favorite boomer shooters on the go. Hexen 2, Blood, Dusk (Yes I know it's on switch and I've beaten it on there but the steam deck just feels like it'd be better for it), Ultrakill, Amid Evil, Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, Devil Daggers, the list goes on.
The Forges has to be one of my favorite series of levels of all time, the way the complex technological architecture unfolds as you go deeper and deeper, seeing all the mechanisms that make it tick was quite the experience and has stuck with me the most from my time playing the game. Amid Evil was a much needed game in the boomer shooter style with its fantasy flavor and I'm glad it succeeded at being the true successor to Heretic/Hexen games. New Blood Interactive has done hell of a job with both Amid Evil and Dusk.
Already beat it of course! I'm a huge fan of Heretic, an underrated gem as it's my favorite shooter to this day, and of course love Quake as well and your spot on comparing Amid Evil to a hybrid of those two classics! I too like Dusk more overall, but I find Amid Evil's visual style more appealing. Both are fantastic games.
one of the most stunning games i've played for a long time. the game is gorgeous. at times I just had to stop and marvel at its beauty. truly a magnificent game. btw, they've also announced a prequel to this game.
Interesting note: The developer, Indefatigable, shares its name with a class of British battlecruisers from WWI. Of the three ships in this class made, one was actually named "HMS Indefatigable". There were previously four other ships to receive this name, one of which was commissioned but never built. And after the WWI era HMS Indefatigable sank at the Battle of Jutland in 1916, an Implacable-class aircraft carrier was given the name in 1942 and fought in WWII. It was scrapped in 1956. Here's a clip of the sunken WWI era battlecruiser in it's watery grave: ruclips.net/video/K2JyIM6PZo0/видео.html And that's all I have to say about that.
I stumbled upon this game a couple of weeks ago and can not put it down. 3rd playthrough, now on evil difficulty ( which kicked my ass when I tried it at the start of the journey ). I admire the art style and the pacing which allows you to take it all in. Even on current replay I am enjoying every bit of it ( except the forge, f*** those homing spike balls and the metal spiker ).
Amid Evil is my favorite boomer shooter and is what got me into the genre as a whole (well Doom 2016 is what made me aware of the genre but Amid Evil is what got me hooked). Anyways, I know others may technically be better but they don't have a staff that shoots planets and stars and that kind of cool factor cannot be underestimated. Obviously some sarcasm, but srsly, Amid Evil was one of the firsts of the genre that I played and I highly recommend it and I just like the idea of a "medieval" shooter. And before someone brings them up, yes I did play Heretic and Hexen afterwards. Both of which can be played using GZDoom and that's how I recommend playing them. Edit: And I know he'll go into it a little bit but it cannot be said enough that the music done by Andrew Hulshult is just a masterpiece in this game. Specifically tracks like Aetheres (which the vid showcased at 6:33) just show the range Andrew has for music when you compare it to more heavier beats in the game like Distilled Chaos or Nefarious or anything he made for the games Nightmare Reaper and/or Prodeus. Fucking amazing and I cannot gush enough about it.
I love this game so much this might be the game with my favorite art direction ever, whenever i play episode 6 i feel like a kid, that shit is wonderful
Your description of the lighting gun is a tad misleading. It doesn't pierce enemies, it puts enemies into a shocked animation if it deals lethal damage. If you shoot a shocked enemy with the electric trident enough before they fall over, they'll pop and emit a mighty lightning bolt that chains between multiple enemies.
Kinda sad that I havent found the evil difficulty from the start, I'm about to finish the second episode on hard mode without major issues. EDIT: also yeah, great game great review 👍
It lets me shoot planets at my enemies? Earth included? So I can genocide 7 billion people to blow up an enemy grunt? Destroy whole solar systems to take down bosses? And it's not even that powerful of a weapon? This game, oh my god, this game. If only for that I am buying it. Wonderful review, thanks for this, I hadn't heard about Amid Evil anywhere. Can't believe how small your channel is given how good your content is, I've been watching a few of your videos and I just added you to my 'Gaming Review - Favourites' PocketTube Subscription Manager list, (Great App BTW), which puts you in with Arlo, ACG, Mandalore, Sseth, ProJared, DW Terminator, Errant Signal, Haas Gaming, Joseph Anderson, LGR, ManlyBadAssHero, NitroRad, Noah Caldwell-Gervais, Republic of Play, RagnarRox, Skill Up, SSFF, Strat-Edgy Productions, Super BunnyHop, Implant Games, Game Sack, Top Hat Gaming Man, ThorHighHeels, WorthaBuy, KrealTube, ETA Prime, ClanOfTheGrayWolf (Defunct but their reviews were seriously amazing), Pravus and so on. If you're planning to do this as a job I'd suggest having a look at all those channels if you haven't already, it'll give you a great idea of the existing RUclips Landscape and how you fit into it. Your current style seems to be more of an ACG, Mandalore, Errant Signal, HaasGaming, Skillup, type. Factual, informative, coherent reviews, not bound to any genre or theme, with an 'every man' persona mixing in splashes of humour here and there. As opposed to channels that focus on specific gaming genres like; Strategy, Horror, etc. Or focus on say types of Games so Grand Strategy or RPG's. Nor do you do Gaming Journalism, or Gaming Think Pieces. Nor theories, history, lore. Nor do you have a Gimmick like Kreal (animation), SSeth (Dark comedy). Or focus on things like Gaming Hardware or Retro Gaming. All of which can be seen in the channels I mentioned.
First off, thanks for the review. I came here because it said 'overwhelmingly positive' with 500'000 to 1'000'000 owners on Steam. Here are some sentences from various reviews on Steam: "Perfect speed, tight combat, the best looking of the holy trinity of New Blood shooters, you can NOT pass this up" "Insanely beautiful game, play it on hard or you'll regret it" "Fast, furious, challenging, beautiful, slick... and insanely fun. And now with RTX full ray tracing and DLSS 2.0!" I only watched the first few minutes of this review, but I don't understand it. This looks so incredibly ugly and fuzzy, it's just terrible. Is this a high school project or one of those 'Unity asset flip' games you sometimes see? I feel like there is a joke or meme here that I'm not getting?!?
I don't know why it is getting so hyped. It had two terrible episodes. The one with the flying balls and the exploding little balls.... And the final episode. Absolute terrible levels. The rest was OK at best. The desert typ of level was also boring.
Found your channel today I've been binging all your videos your boomer shooters video has been all over the recommendeds keep grinding bro
Viewers like you and comments like this are the best motivation. Thank you!

You had me at "Planet gun".

I loved this game and might play it again.
dude this game looks amazing, but you made me want to play it. Very well thought out video that kept me engaged and intrigued. GG. definitely subbing
Its the best new shooter. The atmosphere, gameplay, music everything hits the right spots.
My god. I can't wait to try this in VR! Im so tempted to buy it right now but im going to wait
After Dusk, this game has improve a lot on their the art style and the graphic imo. Really enjoy this game
The first time I played Amid Evil I thought it was nothing special but now I get it, such a beautiful game. Thank you for this review!
AWSD keys? First time I heard someone call WASD like that. Somehow feels strange lmao.
Was thinking the same thing... but I am a boomer... felt WRONG.
It's 2021 & it still ain't on Switch yet 😔
I love this game so much this might be the game with my favorite art direction ever, whenever i play episode 6 i feel like a kid, that shit is wonderful
KIRK COLLECTS: Amid Evil is planned to release on switch sometime this year,
Me in late 2021: “sad Oreo noises”
I'm right there with you:
'rips open a package of double stuffed'

i never played this game. But I already played ULTRAKILL and DUSK. Is this entertaining like the other two?
it reminds me of the original unreal with the glossy textures
I'd argue the bosses are actually quite easy in this game. It usually just takes one soul rampage to take em out
Great Review - which do you prefer: this or Ultrakill?
oof. Its a little hard to say because I have to see how the rest of Ultrakill turns out but gun to my head I'd say Ultrakill.
It lets me shoot planets at my enemies? Earth included? So I can genocide 7 billion people to blow up an enemy grunt? Destroy whole solar systems to take down bosses? And it's not even that powerful of a weapon? This game, oh my god, this game. If only for that I am buying it.

I'm not a 90s shooter but I am a boomer shooter fan
Still waiting for that Switch port...
Guess 3D Realms is biting off more than they can chew with all the multiple projects they've been working on.
This looks AWESOME! I never even heard of it.
loving your channel!
Patiently waiting for switch release
Same. I have it on the schedule.
Is it gonna happen?
I had no idea the weapons were sprites, I thought they were 3d modeled wtf
not gonna lie i feel like this game got somehow influenced by marathon aswell with all the cosmic lost to time stuff you see on it
What a great review! You got my Sub.
Thank you for the sub! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

This game looks like a heavy metal album cover.
so the doom stick in its alt mode fires suns that explode as supernovae. yep. the doom stick has its own doom mode.
Game is awesome but I think Dread Templar is better:-)
it amazing game!
Ah this is what I was looking for
it looks good but those colors hurt my eyes
Never heard anyone say awsd before... everyone says and writes wasd... Why did you decide to be the only person to call it awsd?..
Same sentiments here.

If you don't like it, don't play it
I like this game and it's fun and all but I remember the later levels being a huge pain in the ass and the final boss annoyed the piss out of me.
Please come to console can't afford PC

What a boring game it was a choir to play.
