- Here is the way I make my flour tortillas they are so good and soft! perfect to make burritos, carne asada tacos (yes you can make carne asada tacos with flour tortillas, just make them smaller) or just eat it nice and warm with butter.
FLOUR TORTILLAS
500 grs. sifted(optional) all purpose flour / I used SELECTA brand
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 Tbs salt or less
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 cups of hot water
extra flour
comal
rolling pan
MUCHAS GRACIAS, THANK YOU - I just made the tortillas today and they came out super good and so pliable. i’ve tried many others but this one was THE ONE that beat ‘em all!!! too bad i can’t post photo and i got 10 tortillas cause i rolled em huge
Nice, I am so happy to hear that. Flour tortillas can be a little tricky 😁thank you for trying my recipe and for sharing your experience with us. 🙏🏼😉👍🏼
2:03 THANK YOU!!!! Excellent instructions. Measurements for water never comes out right when I try tortilla recipes. So many factors including flour, humidity, kneading, etc. This instruction allows you to see the texture and use whatever water is needed. Thank you!
🙏🏼😉
Conchita, I have been making tortillas for many, many years however I like to watch videos because you Ever know what someone else might have discovered!!
Anyway, I wanted to let you know that this is the BEST EVER video on tortilla making I have ever seen. You are an extremely good instructor because you take things slow and really show people how you are doing something. I have subscribed to your channel and wish you well on it!!
And telling people that the important thing is just to try, well that was awesome and I am sure it gave others confidence to try. I agree with you - I have been told many times by others that they never wanted to try to make tortillas because they wouldn’t be round, well I tell them that growing up, my family used to say mine looked like the state of Texas (where I am from). 😂😂
Blessings to you and yours.🙏🏻🙏🏻
Aw thank you so much for the kind words I really appreciate it you are so sweet. I am so glad you liked my video and blessings to you too ;)
I agree too!
Thank you, Conchita, your video is the best for making tortilla harina. You wouldn't believe what some of mine look like, but I keep trying for the best tortilla that I can produce.
Thank you! And don’t worry it happened to me to 😃Remember practice makes better 😉👍🏼
I make tortillas all the time! Learned to cook from scratch from my Mamasita, I come from a family of 10 kids and it was hard times but to this day I enjoy cooking and am truly blessed to have this gift from my Mama, must say your tortillas are the best I've seen like mine 🌹
Thank you so much, I also had 8 brothers and sisters big family 😉
Thank you for such detailed instructions!🤗🤩🇺🇸
I’m Hispanic from NM and I really should make more often 😉 I must compliment your masa! It is beautiful! Stretchy and elastic , lovely. Also , mi abuela used to tell
me I had “manos a hecho tortilla “. Words to that effect meaning I have tortilla making hands lol
Your hands are different but same... so pretty and perfect to make them tortillas. Dios te bendiga ♥️
Aw thank you so much for the kind words 🙏🏼 igualmente bendiciones
This is how I learned to make them. When we were overseas and could not buy them. I made them . My family loved them , so when we came back to the states at first I could not buy them the taste was so different. Nothing like home made 🤗
I agree ☝️ you can compare homemade are delicious 👍🏼😉
You’re a really good teacher ♥️
Awww thank you 🙏🏼 😉
We.love your video.. Thank u 4 your encouragement..u r a good teacher..

Thank you so much for your kinds 😉
I love it!
the secret is.... they are still tortillas even if they are not perfectly round.!
I think it is easy for some to forget, their grandma and such rolled out 100's over time... practice is everything but all shapes taste the same.
Exactly 👍🏼😉
I love your tortilla thank you for sharing
Thank you so much Conchita! I made tortillas today and they turned out great, couldn’t have done it without your video! :) x

Thank you 😉👍🏼
thank you for the English version. :) I have the same electric tortilla press you showed on your Spanish version video. Your tortillas come out so nice and soft. Your recipe is really good for rolling out and bubbling up. Today I will try your recipe and my electric tortilla press. Thank you.
Dianna A I am so happy you liked the recipe, and yes it is very easy to make. ;)
@@cookingwithconchita9657 and this tortilla recipe here is the same one you use in your electric tortilla press video?
Cooking With Conchita What's the measurements amounts. Did I miss it
Love your video! I have tried so many times! My tortillas come up a bit too hard, or too rubbery, or they shrink back as I roll them out, or don't bubble! LOL You make it look EASY! can't wait to try them! Thanks!
My EXACT PROBLEM.. WHAT AM.I DOING WRONG?!.. I WAS REALLY BUMMED OUT. THEY WER MOT FLUFFY!! I COULDN'T FOLD THEM OT ROLL THEM UP.. AND YES THEY KEPT SHRINKING BACK WHEN I WAS ROLLING THEM OUT..AY DIOS MIO😔😔
Yours look so beautiful stretchy!! Omg I can taste them wth butter ..what am I doing wrong😭😭😭
I am new to RUclips and I like how thin you got these. I cant get mine thin. God bless to you and yours
The best video on the subject so far...and I’ve seen many.
🙏🏼🙂thank you
Great video, I am still learning. I tried to make some the other day from another video and my tortillas still came out a little hard after they cooled down. I am going to try your recipe.
So did mine...what could it be im doing wrong??..
@@lorenaarregui4607 do use live in high altitude because mine do too. If so I think it because we live in high Altitude
Thanks for sharing, I make daily and wanted to share with you if you add little bit of flour while kneading so your dough is not sticky when you're finish kneading it, I find if I use flour to the teatales I have a harder time rolling it out, also for me I feel like you can taste the flour unless you really have to make sure you don't forget to shake off the extra. But I'm glad you are sharing your way to make then, thanks again! Not criticising just sharing my experience.
Thank you so much 👍🏼I appreciate your comment and of course your tip 😉
That was a beautifully put comment. Your sharing not criticizing. Good Job, Sylvia :)
I just found this video today and love the little tips you threw in. I sifted the flour and immediately thought “that is much better than just dumping out flour.” Also, weighing it was accurate, the # of cups was not. And, going with the texture and water instead of just using two cups of water was spot on. I had water left over from the 2 cups. Also, rolling from the middle was a nice tip, too. Thanks so much!
Mickey Jones you are welcome I am glad you liked the tips I share with you guys. I like to share the recipes using grams instead of cups because there is a lot of confusion when measuring with cups. ;)
i actually used a cup and couple of tablespoons or so
Beautiful, I love the background music .
Im going to go try now 🙂🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you 😉🙏🏻
This is the most instructive tortilla making RUclips video I've seen. And, I've watched A LOT of tortilla making videos... I've also made a lot of terrible flour tortillas. Haha. Going to try this recipe and technique tomorrow. Thanks, Lady!
;) thanks
I agree and I have viewed about 4 now. Don't worry I have made many mistakes and i won't give up ! Since I have been home for 5months, my goal was to make tortillas. Im still learning. They are still a little hard after they cool down. I am going to try this video. Good luck, let me know how your tortillas come out.
I am going to try your recipe. I tried another recipe here on RUclips and I did not like how they turned out. Hopefully with your recipe they will turn out much better. Thanks!
Nice tortillas. You make it look so easy! I guess I'll have to try. Wish me luck!!
Thank you 👍🏽 don’t worry you are going to do good 😉
I love how thin you got them
Thank you, this is the perfect way to make them in. Y opinión 👍🏼😉
Just made these and they are delicious.
😉👍🏼I am glad you liked them and thank you for sharing your experience with the recipe 🙏🏼
Thank you Conchita, this was really helpful 🙂
you have pretty hands Cocha... thank you for sharing..
Aw. thank you so much and ou are welcome! ;)
I really enjoyed your technique.. I made some today and I won't say was a disaster because they still taste good but they were shaped like creatures!😢😂
Thank you so much for the English version. Can't wait to make them
you are welcome ;)
Would love to have your recipe in English, thank you.
Thank you so much for detailed explanations from start to the final product and how to keep them. I tried YT version receipt and they came nice and were delicious but then hardens. It was made with olive oil, baking powder, water and flour. What I want is souple tortillas and be able to have some in fridge for rapid consume like sandwich or even pizza 🍕 support it is a great option to eat pizza and don’t get fat 😉👍 The secret is to put lard or shortening. My grandma used to cook with lard and once I made Christmas cookies with lard. I forgot them and found them 6 months later in special metal box I put cookies in and guess what ? They were perfectly fine and we ate them. Incredible so I knew then why my grandma used to cook with it. I will do these tortillas but I know that they will be perfect 👌Thank you 1 000 000 times 💕💖💕 Love from France 🇫🇷🙋🏻♀️🙌💫😘😘😘
Ah Thank you so much for your kind words 🙏🏼😉👍🏼
Just found your channel now subscribed ☺️looking forward to watching more videos.
Thank you so much and welcome 😉👍🏼
For people who can’t find Farmer John’s Manteca , you can use another brand of lard because Farmer John’s Manteca is actually lard. Much better than highly processed vegetable shortening.
Awesome! What is the difference between resting the dough before making the balls vs. after? Most people seem to rest the whole clump of dough then make the balls. Thank you Amiga! ❤️
Hi, no difference you just have to rest the dough it will make the dough softer, I just rather make the balls first let them rest and make the tortillas right away after 😉👍🏼
Will the tortillas come out as good as yours if I use butter instead of shortening?
Just subscribe and tortillas look si good.. i have never heard of sifting the flour!!
Thank you
Thank you so much Carmen and welcome! I do a lot of baking and I was taught to sift the flour before starting a recipe. I like the results that I get ;)
What devil did you make a deal with? Those look amazing. I'm trying this method this weekend. Thank you!
;)
Thanks that dough dancing a Salsa 💃💃
Always enjoy your videos. Is this is same recipe you use when using your electric tortilla press?
Dianna A, thank you so much and yes it is the same recipe. ;)
Muy buena receta! I'm Cuban and tortillas not part of our cuisine ..just learning now, lol...is it 500 gm flour for about 10 tortillas?
Well it depends what size you make them , I like to make mine 10-12 “ and I get 11 to 12 tortillas 😉👍🏼
New Subscriber here. Totally love this.
Thank you 🙏🏻and welcome to my channel 😉👍🏼
Muchas Gracias Conchita! I will make some this weekend. Love your videos. 💕
Dia's Frugal Life thank you ;)
Thank you sooo much for saying it's ok if the shape isn't perfect, just keep trying. :)
;)
Hi conchita
How many cups of flour did you use
4 👍🏼
Thank you Conchita ❤️
Will a skillet orany flat pan or does it have to be a comal?
A skillet or pan will also work, just remember to control the temperature
Conchita 500 grams of flour is how many cups?
Guadalupe Roman 4 cups
Cooking With Conchita I see the same amount of grease/butter with only 2-3 cups of flour. Interesting. Do you not need that much then?
And your tortillas look amazing!!!
I was wondering the same thing
My tortillas dont bubble up when cooking 😥 what can i do to fix it
Daffney Poynor hello, it happens because either you don't have the comal at the right temperature (med) or you are turning your tortillas more than 2-3 times. ;)
do you have to let the dough rest?
seem like you only knead until the dough is soft, yes?
I like to let the dough rest but you can try to make them right away after kneading. I think is a good idea to try and see if it works for you 😉👍🏼
I found letting them rest for at least 20 minutes- I usually do 30 to be extra safe helps a lot
Thank you!
I like you Conchita! I subscribed. Thoughtful tips along the way, and I love your voice.
Thank you so much and welcome
I Conchita how much is 500 grams of flour in cups
4 measuring cups
Hello.. how can I get my dough to be stretchy?? My tortillas wer NOT FLUFFY OR FLOPPY OR I COULDNT FOLD THEM. THEY WERE ROUGH AND THICK AND HARD 😔😔 was not HAPPY WHAT DID I DO WRONG??..HELP ME PLZ??!?!
You probably added too much flour, try not to add more flour and also the kneading is very important
Pro tip. Some flours and ambient affect how much water is need.
Efrain Flores exactly ! is very important to know this .
Hi how much would 500gr I’m cups of flour be ? Going to try this today
I use the measurement cups and the total is 4 cups for the 500 grs.
About 4 cups
Did she mention the amount of flour.
500 grams the recipe is under the description box
How many cups of flour ?
Is 4 cups of flour
Arina en tasas mediators pro fa..gracias.

You will be adding as much as you need to make a soft dough
thank you
🙏🏼😉
I HAVE A QUESTION & I'M HOPING YOU CAN HELP....WHY DO MY TORTILLAS START SOFT BUT, THEN GET HARD??
After you cook them they get hard? If they do let them cool down and then transfer them to a plastic bag. I like to use zip bags
@@cookingwithconchita9657 AFTER A WHILE THEY DO. YOU KNOW, IF I MAKE SOME FOR BREAKFAST AND WANT TO USE SOME FOR LUNCH, THEY'RE ALREADY HARD BY THEN. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING WRONG OR DIFFERENT BUT IT JUST DOESN'T WANT TO WORK OUT FOR ME.
@@joannsandoval826 Try leaving them inside a kitchen towel until they are room temperature then put them inside a zip bag
@@cookingwithconchita9657 THANK YOU MAMITA, I WILL TRY THAT.
What is name of the pan? Cammeal?
It is a COMAL.
comal and you can also use a pan ;)
Need measurements of ingredients
👍🏼they are under the description box below the video
I’ve tried many times to make tortillas and they always shrink when stretching them out
Hi, add a little more of shortening and let it rest when you are done kneading, they do shrink a little when you cook them .
Crisco and lard (manteca) are two different things!
Yes , but you can use either one to make them 😉👍🏼
you never said how much flour for that amount of tortillas
Hi Lourdes the recipe is under the description box below the video and I also tell you guys the brand that I used. The amount of flour for this recipe is 500 grs or 4 measuring cups
@@cookingwithconchita9657 thank you looking forward to cook me some
I didn't get any of the measurement
Marivel you have a beautiful name, my sister passed away 6 months ago 🥲and her name was Marivel . The recipe for the tortillas is under the description box below the video. Is 500 grs all purpose flour, 1 Tb salt, 5-1/2 Tbs shortening and you need warm water. Like I mention in the video you need to start adding water until the dough is nice and soft
Where is recipe
Hi the recipe is under de description box below the video
mine always turn hard
ESPAÑOL !!!!!
Hola en mi canal RICOS POSTRES Y MÁS tengo como 4 videos de las tortillas de harina 👍🏼
Don’t see measurements to follow
Thank you so much for letting me know 👍🏼 the recipe is
500 grams all purpose flour
5-6 Tbs vegetable shortening
1Tbs salt ( you can use less if you want)
Water it needs to be warm to almost hot ( you need to be able to handle the temperature)
the amount of water depends on what type of flour you are using and also we’re you live ocean level or the mountains. My advice to you is add water until your dough is nice and soft to the touch 👍🏼😉
I just did fresh tortillas this i think they came ok i but i could of did better
Nice, just keep trying you will get better for sure 😉👍🏼
I made these exactly as recipe looked great but no taste?? I used lard maybe I will try with butter? any suggestions?
I Conchita how much is 500 grams of flour in cups
