- DNA samples are being taken from family members of the learners killed in the scholar transport crash which claimed 12 lives in Merafong, Gauteng.
The driver of the minibus was one of those who died, after the collision with a bakkie. Charges are expected to be laid against the bakkie driver.
One of the survivors, a 12-year-old girl, and her parents, have spoken exclusively to SABC News.

To those who says, it's not a right time for this, maybe for you not the child. When something of this sort happen, some of us wants to talk about it to get through it. At that age, she feels the pain, but the immerse pain will be during the funeral and after that as the brain realize it clearly that she needs to move on without him😢. South Africans must teach their children to say "I'm not okay" to get a clear message across. It is not correct to force children to express themselves when they are still trying to process the trauma of what has happened.

I for one I have no problem with journalist being journalist it's their duty to get us the real story from people who were involved first hand... So far the story is through third hand information. As a parent myself I wanted to understand from those who were involved what happened from their own perspective, and for that I thank the SABC for getting us the information. And thank you for the parents who agreed because this informs other parents 👏🏾👏🏾...

The interview was ok, what I find very odd are the questions, they lack sensitivity.
She wouldn't have heard anything from me ,I would have sobbed throughout. This young girl is very strong,and the journalist is very brave to put the child and the family in that seat. Maybe she never lost a loved one . Surely she never experienced trauma.

This interview was not necessary. So long as the information of the incident was on the news. Accidents keep happening this is something we all know. Maybe if you added onto the report pointers to look out for when travelling in large groups ,rules of the road and things like checking your mode of transport before leaving and at every stop would help just fine. Theres nothing that anybody will gain from this scoop. You've further traumatized this family and the rest of the families involved. And I wouldn't blame the ppl being interviewed because they probably not in the right frame of mind and are being taken for advantage. ❤😢 Deepest condolences to all who lost their loved ones.
