    Fun fact: all of our participants were the same height for this one. Women were 5'10" and men were 6'1" to match the height of the Gap's mannequins.

    • @TheBelgiumeseKid

      You have to remember that it wasn't the company who caused this, but rather a single employee.

    • @brettwatters3475
      @brettwatters3475 10 лет назад +147

      TheBelgiumeseKid So? It is still bad for business.
      (a) Does the store not have a policy for calling police for non-emergencies? Something like ask your supervisor?
      (b) Why didn't any of the other employees stop him?
      (c) Why didn't any of the other employees clearly explain to the police what was happening? Officer... this isn't a robbery. Why are you arresting this person?
      (d) The GAP didn't apologize, discipline the employee, or promise to review policies.
      It wasn't one employee... it was all of them who went along with it.
      You could have asked them to leave, to take off their masks when they leave, to search them when they leave, etc. So the GAP has a dozen or more employees none of which are smart enough to know an obvious gag is taking place and is likely to be plastered on RUclips. None of these people are smart enough to know that no one is going to get 40 people together to pretend to be mannequins in order to shoplift $100 each worth of clothing. Too much organization, chance of someone talking after being caught, video cameras, etc.
      The smart thing to do would be to talk with the other employees, maybe put a couple of staff by the doors, and personally thank everyone in a white body suit for coming to the GAP.
      But even given what happened... if I was the manager of the GAP, I'd contact Instant Improve, apologize, and send them 40 $25 gift cards.

      Brett Watters There were a bunch of robberies at the time disguised as flashmobs....

    • @brettwatters3475
      @brettwatters3475 10 лет назад +71

      DisillusionStarFruit Did they spend 20 minutes in the store standing still as mannequins? Where customers (and employees) laughing, pointing, and taking pictures of the robbers?
      There are also cases of robbers dressed as disabled people, police officers, etc. Does that mean employees should call the police as soon as someone in a wheelchair or uniform enters the store? Or... maybe they should wait until it is clear they are actually being robed.

    • @brianhawkins2103

      You are confusing flashing with a flash mob. A flash mob is when people show up at a given location at a certain time and do something unique. I think the first one was when a bunch of people showed up at Grand Central Station and at a certain time they all froze in place for a couple minutes. They are funny.

    • @DeathnoteBB
      @DeathnoteBB 7 лет назад +12

      Ben Picado You ever worked retail? No way are GAP employees paid enough to deal with a literal mob of strangers being a nuisance... Stores aren't there to be a stage, they're a store, with empoloyees paid to do their job.

    • @scaredstiff7176
      @scaredstiff7176 7 лет назад +51

      +DeathnoteBB So they can call the police even though they are there for customer service? Their job requires them to watch the store and sell clothes and help customers. They talk to people everyday, so I don't think it would be hard for the manager or one of the employees to tell them to leave.

    • @DeathnoteBB
      @DeathnoteBB 7 лет назад +6

      Redkit Bellson You're right, their job is to watch the store and help customers. A mob of people playing a massive "prank" is not exactly a usual occurrence.

    • @scaredstiff7176
      @scaredstiff7176 7 лет назад +36

      +DeathnoteBB So you're saying that because a prank mob is not a "usual" occurrence, that they couldn't have dealt with it by themselves or at least called their manager? It is common knowledge that if someone you don't like is in your store, you ask them to leave. It's not rocket science.

    • @DeathnoteBB
      @DeathnoteBB 7 лет назад +7

      Redkit Bellson I'm saying you can't expect a store employee to know how to deal with this. That's it. That's all there is to it.

    So that is why everyone was around Gap that day! I was in New York City to visit my grandma, and while I was driving, I passed Gap and there were police cars and people everywhere! That is clever. Really clever.

    who the fuck calls 911 emergancy for a flashmob? just ask them to leave

    • @ChillandQuill

      flash mobs could loot stores and since theres so many people in a flash mob, they could over power the employees.

      Joseph Gillespie Employees do not use force to prevent theft. It's not worth the human risk over a t-shirt with a 800% markup. Further, it's way way safer to shoplift discreetly as an individual as opposed to having 49 other people dressed extremely conspicuously. It's just not a credible scenario.

      Plus the employee would get fired for trying to stop it because the thief could sue for injuries if the employee tackled them or something. A flash mob actually is the best way to steal a large amount of stuff. There have been news stories about flash mobs stealing large amounts of items and causing lots of damage.

      Barnaclebeard ah yes, but flash mobs have done mass looting before, several times actually. There was a thing with several 7-11's getting hit by flash mobs a couple years back. One employee was severally injured when he tried to tackle a guy, the flash mob turned on him. Im sure the story can be found on youtube.

    Putting those people on the ground with handcofs is so wrong of the cops. The cops act if they catch the Maffia.

      Police don't have anything better to do like keeping the peace. If it was here in California the cops probably would of pepper spray them too. There giving police to much power it has to be changed.
