Undercover Performers Take Over Manhattan Sidewalks: The Mp3 Experiment 18

- Undercover performers listening to synchronized instructions on Manhattan sidewalks in our annual audio adventure.
Full Story: improveverywhere.com/2023/10/...
For our latest mission, thousands of people followed secret, synchronized instructions delivered via headphones in Manhattan’s Garment District. The crowd of around 2,000 people blended in on sidewalks just south of Times Square. The app-powered audio started playing at exactly 3:00 PM.
After surprising random strangers in the area with high fives, dollar bills, and unexpected synchronized movements, participants convened on a new public plaza on Broadway between 39th and 40th Streets for a colorful celebration and a bubble-filled finale.
This was all part of our eighteenth annual Mp3 Experiment event, held every summer in New York City and toured around the world.
We support this free event by touring it to schools, festivals, and conferences around the world. If you want to hire us to stage one for your organization, see here for more details and how to get in touch: improveverywhere.com/mp3-expe...
The Mp3 Experiment is created each year by Charlie Todd and Tyler Walker. All music is by Tyler Walker. (tylerwalkermusic.com/)
A huge thanks to the amazing community of people that continue to come out to be a part of this event every year. We’re so proud of what a diverse, joyful celebration the Mp3 Experiment has become. As silly as the project is, it’s life-affirming to be in a crowd of strangers, all smiling, laughing, and working together.

the ending with the bubbles was insanely fun looking ^-^
but the reverse/walk backwards part could be a little hazardous 2:05 but overall another great time
grand central is still the No'1 video for me ^-^
@improveverywhere Just Wanna Say Thanks For All The Amazing Videos I Love All Of Them I Would Love TO Be Apart Of Your Cool Videos 1 Day Thanks For Always Putting A Smile On MY Face 🙂🤲
My favorite bit while participating was giving someone a dollar. The number of people who just would not accept a free $1 bill was shocking. Then, one person realized what was going on and just ran down the block. He probably walked away with $30.
ha!
While walking to the starting point, I crossed someone begging for money. Given that we were supposed to carry a $1 bill, I guessed that this might happen and I really regret not telling that person to follow me!
I did a social experiment on this in college (I only used 20 dollars total) but the number of people who said no thanks to a free dollar was astounding. It was interesting
Back in college I took a psych class and the prof gave us each $5 and we had to go buy something for someone at the cafe within the class period. It was so stressful because I was on a time limit, and so many people refused.
I don't understand why people would not take money when it's offered freely. What are they scared of?
Babe, wake up. Improv Everywhere posted a new vid.
After half a year 😆
Is she in coma of 6 months....damn
It's been 84 years.
Huh, what? **rubs sleep out of eyes** OH SNAP! GUYS! GAAAAAAIS! IT'S HAPPENING!!
I'm so glad you guys are still doing this. Please never stop!
I miss this stuff - I hope you do improv things like you used to again!
Was introduced to Improv Everywhere in theatre class 9 years ago. Still haven't been to New York once, still wanna participate one day
Never had so much fun shooting video while watching people have that much fun. I wished I was among them! Great edit!
You rocked it. Thank you Clarance!!!!
It may not be like the old days, but I'm glad we still get one or two videos a year from y'all!
I miss Charlie Todd and the Improv crew. Not everyday we get a new mission 😊
Freeze at 8:54 and you can see him.
@@justcogitating you can also see him between 6:07 - 6:10 and 8:37

Big ups to the man that gave the dollar to the kids
Absolutely love all of you. Thanks for always bringing a Big Smile to my Face.
I've been watching these since I was a kid, I'm 25 now. They still make me emotional everytime!
Yes!!! They’re back 🎉
I wish I could join one of these one day 😅
glad to see these back they're so joyful and I think I spotted Charlie in red at the front!
haha i had an inside tip to wear red so I could be up front
I LOVE NEW YORK!!!! It's great to see a new ImprovEverywhere video!!!
Thank you for this shared brilliance! Rock On, Improv Everywhere!
I really miss the old, more creative ones, like Where's Rob, Ted's Birthday, Meet a Black Person, Carousel Horse Race! Greeting random strangers at the airport! I guess those are a lot harder to organize. They were more like Carbonaro Effect episodes. (Dang, I forgot about the Carbonaro Effect after it was cancelled due to Covid. That show needs to come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I didnt even know I was subscribed but this was awesome
Keep up that great content! :D
*This is actually a really great on the spot acting masterclass XD*
We had sooo much fun. What a surprise to see myself in the video lol. Looking forward to next year!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Missed these guys

OMG!!!I missed them!!! :)
I really wish someone would orchestrate this in Rotterdam, I would love to be a part of something that's this positive!
we did it in Rotterdam in 2010 or so. Would love to come back!
I'm in the Hague - would totally be down to organize something small ^^
NICE! Always love your stuff.
If you have any money left, Venmo it to steve😂😂😂
4:37
I'm still amazed how many people took part. I mean honestly the views on this channel are not what they once were, but even so it's a ton of people and to find this many who are in the area, free on the set date, and willing to participate is a sign of a great community
Imagine you go to New York for the first time as a tourist and you see this happening. You’d either think America is weird af or the simulation idea is real 😂
How does this only get 20k views? It's fricking awesome
The comeback of the decade we never knew we needed!!
Miss these videos, Thank you for sharing
7:57 no one has ever been so ready to graduate as this fly lady is right now
I loved this!! I couldn't stop smiling!! Thank you!!

This I'm waiting for🎉😂
im glad these still exist
6:44 An entire block of people at a busy Manhattan intersection suddenly freezing in place like statues... Ok, that would freak me out 🤣
2:54 that’s me! (The one with the green headphones.)
You need to post more videos more often
Ha. The timing. "Ready, set..." (ad starts) come back to "Pause."
I moved about a year ago. Would have loved to be able to do this...but I couldn't have anyway since I don't own an MP3. Oh well. Fun to watch! I'd have gone just to record :)
IM IN THIS VIDEO!!! YEAAAA
Wow
🙏
Mrs. Davis would be proud. 🙂
tears
Was there a bit edited out where people sorted into colours? I suddenly realised at the end that they were all in groups...
yeah, the event was about an hour, so this video doesn't show every moment.
5:19 for a second this reminded me of my time in India !
Does anybody even know what an mp3 is anymore
lol. Though to be fair, mp3 as a file format is still very widely used and anyone with technical knowledge definitely knows what it is, no matter how young they are.
I want to join this cult!

Since when is Garment Dist. a pedestrian zone with bike lanes ? I don't recall it being 20 years ago o_O
It's new! Big changes happening all along Broadway
@@improveverywhere That is great to hear that my favourite American city keeps getting better and better! The rents still suck, though, I am sure. (My friend who is an IP lawyer rents a 1br place in Queens (I know, not Manhattan) and his rent is $4100/mo)
my guy must have felt so powerful after controlling 2000 people
Hilarious 😂 😃 🤣🤣🤣🤣what bowing down
6:37 brain freeze to kick off the freeze?
fast forward is just normal NYC!
How is this video not on 100mil views
you should show way more reactions, thats the entertaining part.
You really went with that thumbnail
7:48
can anyone tell what rank the female officer is? she looks similar to my college professor (who's also a cop) when I attended years ago
Neither of those 2 folks are NYPD officers. They are security for the area, but again, not NY Police Officers.
@@bikeny Yeah I looked her up, she's been promoted to Captain in the Bronx so doubt that's her
This was 3 weeks ago?
Proof we're living in a simulation
