  • On my first full day exploring Labuan Island, I set off from my hotel in Victoria, conveniently located near the ferry port.
I began at Labuan Square, a spacious area used for major celebrations and festivals. Here, I saw a replica of the Chimney monument, which is located on the other side of the island.
Next, I visited the Labuan Museum, which offered fascinating insights into the island’s history. The best part? I had the museum all to myself!
Venturing out of town, I came across the Clock Tower. This is a replica of the original structure that survived World War II. Unfortunately, the British demolished it in the 1950s, but the Malaysian government recently rebuilt it to honor its historical significance.
I concluded my walking tour at the Commonwealth War Grave, a serene site where British and Australian soldiers are laid to rest following World War II. The area was peaceful and deeply moving.
Throughout the day, I also visited the beach and various parks, making for an engaging walk filled with history and culture.

My first experience with deception with 'Duty Free' prices, was 1979 at Heathrow when I bought a bottle of Chivas Regal for $24Cdn. When I got back to Canada I found same bottle retailer for $18.

Labuan was a British colony from 1846 until 1963. Can you find any remnants of the British influence?

Not really, apart from the Commonwealth War Graves. I think when the war was over, they rebuilt everything as quickly as they could :/
