This! I'm met with so much animosity when I tell bw to wash their hair more. Hey my love, thanks for sharing your routine! Keeping your hair in twists serves as a protective style. No need to stretch that. For protective styling I reccomend doing a stretched OR protective style so that sound just fine to me x
No not necessarily. I have convinced my 60 plus year old Auntie to transition from relaxing and putting those chemicals in her hair to going natural the way we transitioned her medium length hair was simply by doing henna mask so can we hear with warm water and then putting a massive henna in on her house cleaning days and letting it filled up in her hair so that as she continued to transition she did not have to cut off and lose length
Are you sure? Long hair is a serious commitment. Most people want long hair until they realise how much effort and dedication it requires behind the scenes 🙂
Let us get serious here. The other factor that plays a role in hair growth is genetics. I mean if down your ancestry lineage there had been an indian or european, obviously your hair growth will be not necessarily because of wash routines and all. I am of 100% african descent, believe me, it is not that easy...so it is tiring to see videos of Africans Afro hair that is genetically mixed with Asia and Europe and expect same results. I'm out of here
Hi Lindi, thanks for your comment, you must be new here. I am in no way mixed. To think that only those who are mixed can have successful hair growth is a very limited world view which is what I am trying to break. I am 100% African, Nigerian, Yoruba. I appreciate I don’t have type 4c hair, but there are also alot of girls on here that have amazingly beautiful and long 4c hair. Healthy hair grows regardless of its texture. I hope to educate women (and men!) that understanding your hair is the key to hair growth. I’ve been doing this for 10+ years, my hair has transformed into what it is now through my increased knowledge. I do hope you read this and believe there is hope that we as africans can grow a healthy head of hair. Do take care of yourself 🙂💕
Yes i read...just frustrated by my own hair growth journey. Nothing personal. But i know i do have a point...there are many mixed race girls boasting about their hair growth on youtube while in the real 100% African world, people try a lot of thing and still struggle
Many Africans can grow long hair. Have you not seen any tribes? I’m sorry your’s isn’t growing as much, it may be because the routine you have isn’t exactly right for you and/or you just have a slow growth rate.
This comment touched my heart as I could feel the pain in your comments. I don’t really follow any hair typing system but there are people who label themselves as having 4c hair that do have long hair. I made a list for you at the the bottom of this comment of some 4c natural RUclipsrs with great growth tips and who have grown their 4c hair long. Also, while curl pattern can be important for styling, porosity and thickness are really important factors in how “easily” hair grows. For most naturals, especially with very tight coils, keeping hair stretched is key for growth, and if you have fine hair, minimizing how often your hands are in your hair is helpful. Keep your scalp clean, your hair moisturized, your hair stretched, and your ends protected and make sure to protect your hair at night and you should be good to go. There is so much information out there about improving the rate of hair growth from head massages, to pressure points, to the inversion method. Making sure you take the right supplements, drink plenty of water and exercise too. Sometimes bloodwork can be necessary to get to the root cause if there really is a medical issue. Genetics also does play a role, mostly with how thick your hair is and unassisted growth rate (there are things that can be done to improve thickness like using henna or other herbs), but there is a lot we can do to improve whatever hand we’ve been dealt. You have to figure out what works for YOUR hair. It can be a frustrating process but it’s definitely worth it in the end. Even if you found someone whose hair looked exactly like yours, they could have a different density, or thickness, or porosity or growth rater. Where we live (climate) can also affect the state of our hair. Lastly, African hair is extremely diverse. People that have a looser texture aren’t always mixed, and the same goes for the people that may have a lighter skin tone. We are extremely diverse even without admixture. Here’s a list of 4c RUclipsrs that you can look up: Seun Okimi Igbocurls Chinwe Juliet Westafricanbaby Craving yellow Craving curly kinks - she had a setback but was able to grow her hair extremely long ( I don’t think she posts anymore) Naturally High - My personal favorite, she is very sweet and really embraces texture and has great scientific explanations for natural hair. Good luck to you and just know that a lot of people have trouble growing their hair long no matter what their admixture is. There are forums and RUclips pages dedicated to long haircare for all races and hair types. Of course straighter hair is easier to detangle but I’ve gotten helpful tips from other women who had fine hair (because I have fine hair) even if their hair isn’t as coarse or curly as mine. Be encouraged! Mindset matters!

Here’s a list of 4c RUclipsrs that you can look up:
Seun Okimi
Igbocurls Chinwe Juliet
Westafricanbaby
Craving yellow
Craving curly kinks - she had a setback but was able to grow her hair extremely long ( I don’t think she posts anymore)
Naturally High - My personal favorite, she is very sweet and really embraces texture and has great scientific explanations for natural hair.
