- This dialogue plays if you go to the wrong bell first. I went to the one east of Shadow Keep first. I guess I will have to do the correct order on my next playthrough haha :) Enjoy!
“Please take a second look at the original map” translates to “mf are you stupid?”
as mentioned in my previous E-Mail ...
Tarnished : "Your map drawing sucks. Who the hell can read this?"
Ymir: "How dafuq did you go to the bell on the OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE MAP than the one i told you to go to?! I mean, not complaining, just curious as to how you could misread my map that badly."
Tarnished: "It's because you can't draw a map if your depended on it. I literally just randomly wandered around until i stumbled into one of those ruins because i can't read your chicken scratch."

Hard to tell exactly what happened to Yuri. His grave says he was taken before his time, and then I guess Ymir revived him by turning him into a finger creeper.
By the item description of Ymir's robe it seems that even before his transformation at the end of the questline that he had fingers writhing underneath his cloak.

@@ongabonga4378 there is also one of those special Larval Tears near Manus Metyr, perhaps he tried the same rite as Rennala, but he did not have the rune of the Unborn so the revived Miniature Finger Creeper Yuri was flawed and shortlived as her Juvenile Scholars

I like how he still gives you the map to the place you had already gone too

I swear that map is actually unreadable.
Instead of giving us a useless "map",he should've directed us to the *_gigantic fingerprint_* marks on the actual map .

How can you go to both bells if you can only sound one at the time?
@@packabowl3888 no. You can visit both bells at any time. Even without the maps. Just visit both before speaking to him.

I actually liked this guy, was sad at the end of this questline.

I hate how empty the finger ruins are though. I was expecting a little dungeon or a cool item bare minimum.
There are remembrance duplicators at both of them at least, but yeah they are a bit too empty
This place really let me down. In the map you see this enormous areas and when you reach it, you see this strange space full of fingers, both beautiful and cursed, with some very cursed enemies... You see the obvios convergence point where you should go, but i decide to explore... Walk through the entire area just to be a gigante space full of nothing... Then i go to the middle and... It's just a strange thing that gve you an amulet... I was expecting atleast some random consumables around the area and a boss in the middle, but it's was just meh... The second one i decide to look the wiki immediatly because i just not in the mood to lose 10 minutes searching for nothing. Specially because the second one is full of the sniper leechs, stun locking you from across the map... Very miserable experience for an visually stunning area.
Technically, you do get talismans from both, lol. But yeah, they are very disappointing. Really cool areas with basically nothing in them. 🤷♂
ah yes, put there another cave or another tunnel or another Ghostflame Dragon, can't wait to do them and then end up with an ancient smithing stone as a reward (I have 12 of them)
At least they have a unique enemy exlusive to this DLC

All the “maps” that NPCs give me are useless to me. Luckily, once you go to one finger ruin, the other is easy to spot on the world map.

The maps are so simple that you can probably read it on a phone screen on the description page. Was the glintstone key location too hard for you also.
I used this method on my PS5 a few times: Screenshot. Edit. Crop tool. Then you have a large, detailed picture of the map or painting 5 button presses away.
They want you to train your vision. It's the Dark Souls of item inspection.
I havent gotten to the DLC yet but honestly this guy seems pretty chill.

It's kinda cute how much he genuinely cares for those fingercreepers. The way he cradles them and even gives them names, like Yuri, the one he's holding in his arms.

@@ongabonga4378 You mean the one where you grab the Finger sorcery? I don't remember it saying anything about a dead son, or anything implying that. It only says "Yuri, beloved child. Taken before his time."
I haven't actively tested it, but I'm pretty sure that you can only interact with that gravestone AFTER you've killed Metyr.
I think it's fairly obvious that it's the other way around. I think by killing the Mother of Fingers, you in turn kill Yuri, which is what "damaged the count irreparably", how Jolan puts it. It's the grave of the little fingercreeper, and you can hear him weep every time you kill the creepers during your fight with him.
It's just Occam's razor. What is more likely; that this is the grave of the little fingercreeper we've seen him cradle and call "Yuri"; OR that this is another Yuri we never see or hear, that is of no consequence to the story of this quest, adds nothing to his character and generally just makes the whole thing more confusing?
Hang on, I don't remember him ever cradling a tiny fingercreeper in my interactions with him. When does that happen?

edit: It seems like people missed my point here. There is an undeniable connection between Ymir and Yuri, the child who was buried out in the graveyard. But it doesn't imply it was Ymir's son.
My original question was "how do you know he has a dead son?".
It's cool that they planned for this and prepared unique dialogue for it too.

I couldn't read his maps at all so I ended up doing this and then accidentally finding the original place at some point
I did this because the second ruins were the only ones I had on my map, and I was pleasantly surprised that they put this in the game.
"Did you look at the map with the paper upside down, ya dingus?!"
Btw, he also has dialogue if you go to both bells before talking to him again 🙂

I did this first try without meaning to and laughed so hard. Basically got told "youre a little too good at this, i havent even shown you the map for that one."
I do appreciate the game accounting for this, that's a fun detail.

Through some interaction he wasn't there some time after I rang the first bell but before ringing the second, and I was able to press the button on his chair. Got the invasion from the other knight person down there, and got to the bell, but it doesn't let you ring the bell until you've rung the first two (looking up why I couldn't ring this new bell spoiled the name of the boss to me unfortunately)
I had the same dialogue but a different timeline. I did the first one correctly, but when I went back to talk to him he was not there. But the chair was interactable, so I went downstairs and died to the red phantom NPC. When I spawned back to the grace, he was there and said these words to me.
I did both at once and he was like “wow you got both of them!”

This is what happened to me I didn’t get the map piece of the cerulean coast so I just went to the finger ruins through the hinterland 😭
Hahahaha I thought for sure he would explode into a tentacle monster and kill me, so I didn't ring it when I found it before the others.
“I looked at the map, but the game won’t let me zoom in so all I saw was a low res scribble.”
There is more hidden dialogue if you die to the invader
This happened to me because it was kind of...natural? Like, you reach the manor, and the closest thing to you is the back entrance to Shadow Keep. It's the closest and easiest finger ruin to access after receiving the quest. Admittedly I didn't look at the map too closely, I just saw the ruin closest to the manor and was like 'oh that must be it'.
i fell instead using the ladder and died and im going back and be like, "missed my chance, huh?"

i got the one where he is surprised i rang both bells. as soon as i could ring those bells i was on it immediately
Perhaps if you drew your map with a darker ink than the rainwater I assume you used, I would have found the right bell.
Ymir: Here's a map. Now, go check out this ruin in the far south and sound the bell you find there.
Tarnished: Hmm, "south"... Birds fly south, right? **goes outside and scares some random eagles** So they're flying towards that big tree, huh? **gets up on Torrent** At least it's a landmark I can see from literally anywhere.
Narrator: They could, in fact, _not_ see the Scadutree from the Abyssal Woods, but they were too busy crying in fear to notice.
I actually went down there and backed out without ringing the bell. he's got dialogue for that too.

He's one of the nicest NPCs in the whole game. No betrayal and probably some of the best lore drops in the DLC.

@@BeAsTMoDE528 You literally kill Metyr, the only way to possibly communicate with The Greater Will. You betrayed him. He wanted to be a mother like Marika, by birthing fingers. That's not insanity. That's understanding how his world really works and wanting to protect it.
@@dadevi No, he wanted to replace Metyr... Were you not paying attention to the questline at all? That part is pretty clear.
1) He spends the entire time ranting about the fingers being inherently flawed
2) He states that the fingers aren't at fault for their flaws and it lies with their mother.
3) You fight the mother of fingers and kill her.
4) He literally says "I will be the true mother and I will be the only mother" before attacking you. (I'm assuming because he sees you as a competitor to the position of Finger Mother)
Ymir was always crazy if that wasn't already obvious by the fact he had a pet hand and wanted to birth fingers. Jolan and Anna were literally children he raised in a Gaol specifically to be loyal warriors for him... Seems like he was a glintstone sorcerer who believed in a sort of combination of the stars and greater will. Interpreting the Greater Will instead of the moon, turning him mad and trying to take up the role as the mother of fingers.
Pretty common to see people get this one including me. It was somehow easier to find the one past the Shaman village than getting to Cerulean Coast at all

There is a bug where he leaves his throne after you sit at the bonfire. You can then access the third bell. An invader killed me there and I lost the access to it so I don't know what would have followed
pretty sure it's not a bug. Don't know if this is at certain time of the day, but some times he is just not there and you can enter the secret entrance. Avoiding spoilers, this entrance will be relevant later in his quest
