Carrie definitely died too young, I always admired her as much for her stance on mental health as for her acting, I always wanted to meet her, but never got the chance!

Carrie is the personification of the tortured artist, like Van Gogh, who had faults like all of us, but kept trying to express herself, make something out of her life, and come to terms with her illness. I have been diagnosed with CPTSD, and have learned to make every day an opportunity to achieve something important to me, large goals or small goals don't matter, it's the feeling of accomplishment of small goals. I found that excercise helps me a lot. I'm pretty lazy but tried anyway. It took me six months to be able to run around the track 3 times. My husband encouraged me when I felt like a failure, he told me I was doing great, just by trying. Even when I thought he was wrong, he kept me encouraged. Now I get up at 4:30 AM and go out and run 6 to 8 miles every day!! Never, ever thought I could do that! It's a small achievement, but got me trying more goals, little by little. Never give up, never let failure imprison you! Every single day you get to try! Never give up on yourself and be forgiving of yourself and everyone around you. Anger is the biggest energy drain in the world...

Just so you know, Carrie never liked her life being regarded as "tragic."

@@Sputnik-hf8oe Just because she had a mental illness doesn't necessarily mean she had a tragic life. According to her, she had a privileged life.

@@dec23 I understand your viewpoint but I can't entirely share it. I believe that mental illnesses may be a consequence of a tragic life. I really like Carrie but we need to be honest with ourselves. It all strated when her unfaithful father abandoned his family and there was no man to guide Carrie. Then she fell in love with Harrison (whom she might have considered a father-like man), who also abandoned her for obvious reasons. Every major break up rips your soul. People often develop psychological and physical conditions. Their immune system fails and they are overwhelmed with thoughts and emotions. As a result they may start drinking, taking drugs and even become promiscuous in a desperate attempt to reduce the pain. Besides, she chose to be an actress. In this profession people rarely have happy personal lives. They pay the price. She hardly had a chance. Maybe in a parallel world Carrie, a poet, married Harrison, a carpenter, and they have 3 beautiful kids and they all visit her both parents on the weekends but this is our world...

@@Sputnik-hf8oe Well, I did always say she was dealt terrible cards in life. But I appreciate your point of view. Regarding the men in her life, that always upset me. She loved men who were absolutely unavailable and selfish.

Miss this woman every day. She died the very same day my father died. (Though he died in 2009) Always loved her voice, and I think she was my first real celeb crush as a kid when I saw her in Star Wars.. even though I was born in 1992. My family were huge into Star Wars, my grandmother even has VHS tapes of the original trilogy that are sealed up. Carrie will always live on in my mind.

God bless Carrie Fisher, she lived life on her own terms, good, bad, ugly, and bat shit crazy. But I guarantee she regrets nothing! At least she and her mom are together, forever arguing but together. On a side note, wasn’t the movie Postcards From The Edge based on her and Debbie Reynolds relationship?

    • @rhondahoward8025

That was sad that her mom died shortly after her daughter did, but sometimes a broken heart will do that to you, and that's a real thing. According to Todd Fisher, Debbie even said that she wanted to be with Carrie prior to her stroke. I guess God heard her and reunited the two (if you believe in that sort of thing).

The years of substance abuse aged her body well beyond how old she was. Toward the end of her life she looked as old, if not older than her mother. The same thing happened to Lisa Marie Presley. If Carrie had gotten the help she needed she would still be with us. The fact that drugs were found in her system when she died is very sad.
