OMG you make me so happy! I am making my first quilt using a panel of 6 cute framed motifs. and somehow I need to incorporate 5 square" pieces of accompanying fabric and I can't wrap my head around the math. the panel motifs are 11" across before "framing"...I know it is stupidly simple but I am spending way too much time, and trees, trying to figure it out. I is my first quilt ever other hand an EPP quilt I am hand sewing. I thought squares, yeah, that would be an easy first project! LOLOL. Cheers from Minn and your quilts are wonderful!
The captions really made this video great! Love it!! Picked up a few tips and tricks from this video, as well as to double check the math. 😆 Thank you for the video.
Math gets me every time too!!! But the web method is fabulous…what a time saver. And, your binding video saved my sanity…along with my blood pressure. Thank you, thank you!
Your web idea is brilliant! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made too many postit notes only to have them fall off before I get all my rows done. Thank you!😊
I had to laugh re: your quilting math. 🤣 We must have gone to the same school! It took me a long time to finally figure the math out properly. Thank you so much for the free printed pattern! 🥰
I love your quilts and I downloaded the free pattern. Thank you! This is a GREAT scrap busting quilt. I love your honesty. Quilt math can be so tricky! I swear, you can be great (stellar even) at math, and quilt math can humble you so quickly. 🤣 Thank you again! Beautiful video! 🥰 Also, I DEFINITELY would love to have your eBook. I checked the latest newsletter I received, but did not see it mentioned. So, I will be looking forward to that!
Nikki I just love your sewing tutorials! Also how real you are and quilt math is a real thing!! Im curious about the ruler you used, the one with the slant on one end, where did you get that and what else is it used for ? Thank you!!
I've been trying to figure out where you went wrong with the math and the only thing I can think of is that your error was right at the beginning. I worked backwards from 270, dividing by two to get 135, then looking for whole numbers of squares for the total size of the quilt that would be somewhat close to your actual square count. You could get to 270 by counting 9x15 squares instead of 8x10. Perhaps this could be as simple as deciding on a 9x15 quilt at first but later reducing the size to 8x10, then when determining the cutting plans you still had 9x15 on your mind or in your notebook.
Ok Nikki… can you please create a video from the beginning and assume we know nothing (cause I don’t 😊) let’s make a lap quilt. What is the size? What size squares or triangles or whatever? What size is the edging (bless my heart cause I know that is not the right term but I can’t think of the right one 😂) what size for the backing and the batting? Please?
Oh my! I always make a paper with my chicken scratches, but almost always have to go back and try to figure out what I did wrong. Math is really not my strong suit. Using a calculator unfortunately does not mean I did it right. LOL
Cutting too much happens to me all the time. I don't see a problem with it actually, because I think patterns are generally skimpy with fabric requirements. I like having extra, because I frequently upsize a quilt anyway because my kids want a lot of overhang on their quilts.
So sorry! There should be a cart icon in the top right? Or if you’re on mobile, it should be down across the bottom, it says cart (1). If you still have trouble, send me an email at pincutsew @ yahoo .com :)
I'm so sorry! There is a written tutorial on my blog here: www.pincutsewstudio.com/blog/2020/5/17/quarantine-quilt-a-long-part-3-making-the-quilt-sandwich OR you can watch the quilted hot pad video here, which is the same quilt sandwich process you'd use for a larger quilt: ruclips.net/video/7rMrsd0Aa5M/видео.html
So sorry, Linda, have you tried this link? www.pincutsewstudio.com/shop/scrappy-half-squares-free-quilt-pattern You can email me at pincutsew(@)yahoo dot come if you still need help :)
Im with ya sista. I have been math challenged my whole life.
I have the same issue. Can be fun when I make up my own quilts.😂
Very cute quilt
The screen captions re: math are hilarious! You’re certainly honest and I appreciate that. Your quilts are adorable.
I love those pop up captions! Bless your heart.

I love your honesty! And I CANNOT do quilt math either. I always call a friend that helps me.
Lol that’s a good idea. A nonquilty math person could probably do better than me!
You are not the only one who doesn’t get quilt math
I'm with you on the quilt math! I've been sewing for 50 years... But I'm not going to stop striving to get it. ❤
Love the baby quilts. They are so cute. Thank you for another great tutorial. So glad I’m not the only one that has a problem with quilt math!🤪😁
Me too!!!!! Can’t wrap my head around Quilt math sometimes. It takes me forever and ever on paper…painful and painfully slow getting started.
The captions really made this video great! Love it!! Picked up a few tips and tricks from this video, as well as to double check the math. 😆 Thank you for the video.

Thank you for the free baby quilt pattern!!! I’m bad at the quilting math too!
I am with you on quilty math! Can’t do it at all. Thanks for the guide!
Kismet ! One of my favorite words ❤
I can relate to the quilting math problem!
I love your honesty. The quilts are super cute.
You may have trouble with quilt math, but your logic in sewing this way is impeccable! Right up there with your binding video.
Well, thank you!! :D
Great method for quilt Construction. Thanks
Beautiful baby quilt! Thank you for sharing your time, and talents with us!
Thank you Nikki. Your quilt is a cutie!
Your web idea is brilliant! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made too many postit notes only to have them fall off before I get all my rows done. Thank you!😊
I learned that recently and it makes things so much easier!
So funny! I have done the same quilty math mistakes as you.
Great tutorial! And what a sweet quilt! ❤
Thank you! :)
I love your system for sewing all of it together and keeping it all organized. I’m going to try that.
O thank you for the math comments!
So cute!
Thank you!
Thanks for the pattern…and your wonderful tutorials!

It’s not quite ready yet, it’s coming out in the next week! Don’t worry, since you’re subscribed, you’ll be the first to know :)
@@PinCutSew Thank you! :)
Love, love, love your youtube station. Thank you for the pattern❤

Thanks Cindy! That ruler is super old lol, but it’s my favorite. The brand is Olipfa and it’s the small 45° ruler.
That’s how I am with hemming pants. Somehow I never get the right number cut. No matter how careful I am . That’s why I now sent them to tailor😂
Thanks ! Quilt math 😮no my strong suite
Beautiful quilt I love the colors.
Fabric salad!
haha, love it.

That makes sense. I was confused because I had already made the other quilt but those blocks were smaller. I dunno what the heck I was doing lol.

I will outline a video for the size of all the things, great suggestion!

I tried to get the pattern but I don’t know how to operate your site. It says it’s added to the cart but I can’t find the cart! 🤦🏻♀️
So sorry! There should be a cart icon in the top right? Or if you’re on mobile, it should be down across the bottom, it says cart (1). If you still have trouble, send me an email at pincutsew @ yahoo .com :)
Hi, I still can’t find the tutorial for sandwiching my quilt. You pointed to the corner, but there was nothing there. Help, p,ease
